As pointed out in the article, there are 2(4) calculators acceptable. These are Texas Instruments BA II Plus and BA II Plus Professional; Hewlett Packard 12C and 12C Platinum.
Now I gave level-I in Paris and saw almost all people using the TI one. Its use was explained in the study material and was cheaper as well. In Delhi some of my friends had bought it from Jia Sarai near IIT. BA II Plus had cost them somewhere near INR 2200.
Hi Thanks for replying:-P I did go through ur article . Could u also tell me whether the Texas Instruments BA II Plus or BA II Plus Professional which one is better?
Hi, My name is Dipesh and have enrolled for dec'09 exam(level 1). I hv completed my engineering from NSIT and working rite now. Anyone plannin on doin cfa in dec can contact me....we can share our study resources and also get our queries or doubts resolved among ourselves. Also the cost may cm down drastically as we are already duped of 50k:)
I bought Texas BA II Plus Professional as it was only marginally more expensive than the normal one but looked and felt far better. As far as I could see both the calculators had the same buttons and functions. BA II Plus Professional has metallic finish and a leather case should cost about Rs2900 while BA II Plus is an all plastic one.

hi, I want to give CFA exam but i don't know anything about it.where will i get complete information about it like which notes to refer, npaper pattern, registration fees etc. Please reply
This is something I am looking out for too. Currently there seem to be 2 good options. One Kathmandu, Nepal and the other Bangkok, Thailand. There is no visa reqd for Kathmandu and flight costs about 11k while for Bangkok you the flights cost about 9.3K and visa 1.7K. Thus as far as transport are concerned both should work out to be same.(All of these are ex-Delhi prices)
Other options like Dhaka might work out cheaper if you are from Calcutta; or Colombo/Singapore if you are travelling from the South.
As for me I have taken Kathmandu for now, but I suppose there is an option to change till some time.
~Hope this helped

Hey Rajatdeep. Thanks for this post. Do you also have idea of what would be the normal accomodation expenses in Kathmandu, Bangkok and Colombo and which would be the cheapest one.
I am a B.Tech in Biotechnology and am working full time. I want a really good career in finance. And i have to do a course via correspondence mode. There are lots of options viz CFA, CPA, CA, etc. and lots of opinions.
Can somebody bring out the difference amongst the various courses available?
Also is there any need to study class 11 and 12th books for these courses.
Can someone please send a location where photocopied CFA level 1 material is available in Delhi. Saw the name of bharat book stores quite a few posts back. Any idea where is it located? Also can the seniors recommend some good coaching institue for CFA prep? Any guidelines or suggestions are most welcome.
The hearing for the appeal by CFA Institute to resume holding CFA Program examinations in India began on 1 December 2008, and is continuing. Hearings were held recently on 18 March 2009. The judge has scheduled a conference with the parties for 30 March 2009.
after completing cfa prog, u will be holding status of CHARTERED & the whole world of finance will be wailting for u. u can work anywhere between; portfolio manager, financial/securities/investment analyst, financial analyst, senior financial analyst, vice president of finance, chief financial officer, and corporate financial analyst. Where the true variation of available work is through the industries a CFA charterholder has access to. AFTER COMPLATION OF CFA LIFE WILL BE CRUUUUUUUISE....!
Actually, level-1 is all about understanding the investement apllications, so after this u will get the lower lever jobs in any research houses, CRAs, etc. SO IF U DONT COMPLETE 3 LEVELS STILL U WILL BE WORKING WITH GOOD PAY.
I am enrolling this year for CFA from ICFAI (last date 30-03-2009). So guys need help regrading following details,
1) Recognition of ICFAI in India as well as Overseas. 2) Expected Salary package. 3) Comparison between CFA & MBA.
Thanks in advance!
Firstly,This thread pertains to the CFA program of CFA Institute, USA and not ICFAI. For queries on ICFAI there is a separate thread.
Expected salary package for any CFA charterholder or candidate: Depends upon your previous academic background
CFA vs MBA: The CFA program is originally, as per the CFAI website, for people already working in Finance who want to advance their knowledge. An MBA is a general management course. So, there is no point of comparing the two. A lot of CFA charterholders pursue MBA and a lot of MBAs pursue CFA. They are complementary.
Hi I am also giving CFA in Dec'09 if you are planning to give CFA at the same time please do feel free to contact me at 09717173607 so that we can discuss and if possible prepare together.I am from Noida Sec-19.
