ankit.3k SaysWhere are you from??
hey friends,
this yr i appeared for mba entrance tests n got through ibs pune. but i m not keen towards going to ibs pune(ICFAI BUSINESS SCHOOL). i am looking for one more option, CFA. i m planning to go for us cfa instead of going for mba from ibs pune. and lemme tell you that i m a commerce graduate and i have also pursued cfa course provided by ICFAI under which i have cleared 5 levels.
now should i leave the ibs pune option and go fo us cfa. what are the future job prospects for a international cfa under current financial scenario. what level job can i expect after doing cfa and at what pay?
please suggest me asap, as i have to take the decision as soon as possible.
thank you.

hiii.....
I am a s/w engg and want to make a career in finance.....recently came across CFA program....I have a few queries....wld be really thankful if they can be answered....
1) I have absolutely no knowledge about finance.....I have arranged schweser notes....shd i start with them....or shd i refer to some other study material to build my basics?
2) CAT is my priority this year.....and I am thru with my CAT basics( got 98.09 in cat 09)...all i need is right application and practice.....so considering this scenario what wld experienced ppl with cat and cfa prep advice....shd I go for CFA level 1 in dec or june ( considering that i am working and amnt of time required to be dedicated in both preparations and also I want to get the benefit of CFA in my post mba placements) ?
3) do i need coaching for CFA level 1 ( I don't need for CAT..just test series) ?
4) Is there any other study material better for CFA preparations?
waiting for reply and Thanks in advance....
Hi Guys,
Does it really cost Rs. 100000 to give the CFA Exam? I'm currently doing my exec MBA from IIM - Calcutta and want to get into finance. Is this the right course for me? If so, it it tougher than CA and can I do it while working? I'm a B. Com graduate but have forgotten accounting. Need a brush up.
What's the starting salary a CFA can expect in India?
Please advise, especially someone who has done the course and reaped the benefits.
Thanks.

Hi Kalika,
first of all congrats on your cat score...
well even i am a software engineer and would be giving CFA L1 in Jun 09, its about your interest... i feel i am more interestedi in finance then in software.. so it is all about your interest..
Schweser notes are really good.. you can start with them... you need to make your choice between mba and CFA.. because both exams would be almost together.. CFA-dec and MBA-nov... so it would be difficult to prepare for two big exams simultaneously... Probably if cat is more important.. to you.. then i would suggest first give CAT and then appear for Jun 2010 CFA exams... you need to take a call...
Coaching again depends on individual...
The best notes are CFA cirriculum provided by the CFA institute... but they are very bulky... almost double of schweser....
Hope that helps...

Hi
Please tell me the specifications( model number , manufacturer ) of the calculator that we need for L1 .
I heard there are 2 calculators allowed. which one is better?
Also i am from NOIDA so can anyone tell me from where can i get it in Noida/Delhi and at what price?
:tellme:
Hey Tanmay
As pointed out in the article, there are 2(4) calculators acceptable. These are Texas Instruments BA II Plus and BA II Plus Professional; Hewlett Packard 12C and 12C Platinum.
Now I gave level-I in Paris and saw almost all people using the TI one. Its use was explained in the study material and was cheaper as well. In Delhi some of my friends had bought it from Jia Sarai near IIT. BA II Plus had cost them somewhere near INR 2200.
All the best for your prep

Can anyone throw light on the available centers for CFA exam?
Which centers in the Asia-Pacific region are closest to India?
Dear abhi_nals
This is something I am looking out for too. Currently there seem to be 2 good options. One Kathmandu, Nepal and the other Bangkok, Thailand. There is no visa reqd for Kathmandu and flight costs about 11k while for Bangkok you the flights cost about 9.3K and visa 1.7K. Thus as far as transport are concerned both should work out to be same.(All of these are ex-Delhi prices)
Other options like Dhaka might work out cheaper if you are from Calcutta; or Colombo/Singapore if you are travelling from the South.
As for me I have taken Kathmandu for now, but I suppose there is an option to change till some time.
~Hope this helped
