can someone enlghten me??
I think they were gonna reduce the seats this yr....cant remember who told me this or where I read it...but I hope its not the way it is....
U might call me a cynic but I think most of us w/l people have been taken for a trick by these Mica ppl...
Consider this... 1. Firstly, Mica plays truant with results - some of those selected - like me - get chucked out into the w/l the next day, some originally w/l ppl get in, some w/l ppl get rejected...and they wash their hands off it and blame their IT ppl for it...
2. They promise the moon to everyone, 99% chance for everyone! Bcoz of the SOBs, I didnt apply to any other insti, missed GD/PIs of two instis and forfeit my seat in ICFAI...
3. They dont issue receipts so no one has any proof of payment on a particular date, leaving the door open for manipulations (remember that line about name moving up w/l on receipt of payment)
4. That b*****d Luv tells me that I can sue him if I dont get through, that Pillai - that apology of an official, that shame on the proud people of Kerala tells me I should start packing and shopping for my 2 yrs at Mica, but on the 21st calls me up to lemme know that I still need to hope that Atul Tandon shows magnanimity...
5. They keep telling everyone that there are 120 seats but when the push comes to shove, back out...
In my opinion it boils down to this...
Someone posted on this thread about checking out the GD/PI list and coming up with 98 selections and 109 w/l,
assuming that 60 ppl selected and about 80 w/l ppl must have sent DDs of 87000 and only 4-5 w/l ppl got through, excess interest income @ 5% of the remaining 75 w/l ppl comes to Rs.30000 in just 1 month....
I had only heard that backdoor entries are MASSIVE in Mica, my experiecne vindicates it...
I guess U can guess what I was told on reading this post.... :x
I really can understand what you are going thru. So is the case with me. But the only way to resolve is by staying together and sending mails asking them to increase the number of seats. Remember what Russsel Crowe says to the slaves in the fight in the movie Gladiator - "WE STAY TOGETHER, WE WIN".
If we, the harrowed lot send mails, I mean each one of us , asking them to increase the number of seats, we may see light at the end of the tunnel and hopefully not that of an incoming train which would run over us.
I have already sent mails to the admissions office. I beseech in all of you a favor. Pls send mails to Luv, KGK and admissions office. I am aslo trying to figure out Mr. Tandon's ID. If need be, I shall talk to him after 24th.
hey vipin...sorry u didn't make it...i remember that we had a big argument about the no. of seats at MICA this year...i said 120 u said 90...well...it seems that those guys had completely other ideas...but just hang in there...i have this sneaky feeling that its not yet over...
Karishma...sorry about u too......u had gone in for your interview just before me and u seemed really happy with your interview...so i was damn sure u would get in...but as i said earlier, just hang in there...remember your GMAT score...May B...you r destined to get into MICA...
but the person i'm genuinely happy for is sonu...the guy was really done in by MICA...so its only just that they take him in...he had given up on sibm because of their error...congrats man!...u deserve it
Guys

Just another point to add- Had they not DEFINITLEY mentioned in their website that the number of seats was planning to be increased and the applying date was postponed by beyond a month?? Also, The double-of-last- few years gd/pi calls issued also indicated the same. Or was that also just another way of getting in more of the debated Rs.500/- income? Is everything all about the money with MICA?
Bloody, my w/list no is 46. Which means it must hav originally been around 80. HOW the hell was that a "VERY high chance of confirmation", or 99% ?!?! WHY such misleading messages?? why?
ARgh, me so so mad. It is greatly about the not getting it, but more about the fact that they leave you dangling and hoping and praying. Had they initially said "ur waitlisted no. 90", wouldnt it have saved me a lot of mental trauma and them a lot of bad mouth publicity?
Communication management- both skills lacking @ mica, largely the first

How and where on earth did you get your shortlist numbers from. I can't seem to get mine. And what do you mean that the waitlist reult is out. Mine aren't!!! It still says that i am waitlisted and my chances of getting confirmed are very high. What's happening? someone please shed some light.

Dude,
Call up MICA. Speak to Luv Thakur/ KGK Pillai/ Admissions office. Give your application number and ask whether you have moved to the merit list or not. If u have, then you are promoted to thread " MICA Class of 2005-2007". If not keep hanging around in this thread.

dude they havent cashed the DDs....you'll get yours back as it is.....but the other stuff you said is all OK 😃

Together we stand. Divided we fall.
Godspeed.
They cant just double the seats man....I think they planned to but dint manage to work out the logistics in time probably because of the absence of Mr.Tandon.....expect the seats to go upto 75 probably 80 after the meeting on the 24th...if they hafta take it all the way to 120 they'll take a while...

Not possible today at least. I called up MICA about an hour ago to ask about the status of my DD and I was informed that no one in the admissions department is there today...
So what happened at MICA wasn't exactly fair. The number of seats were initially slotted for increase and the whole admissions process was based on this. 1200 people for the exam, 90- odd selected and 110 waitlisted. The only confusion at the time was between 90 and 120 seats.
Finally though they were not able to increase seats for whatever reasons (hostel construction did not work out mostly). So lot of us who were lulled into a false sense of security by the high chances message and 75% (or 99% as may be ) chances information, landed on earth with a distinct bump this week.
They are having some sort of a meeting sometime this week to look at the likelyhood of increasing the seats. It may or may not happen. My point is - a waitlist is at best a 'maybe'. And no matter what they said, they never revealed the waitlist numbers. So they never were sure.
Guess what, for many of us (including me) it was not a happy ending. We need to replan, rethink and move on. It happens, the world is not a fair place and life goes on, AND so on and so forth.
Lets not get into sorry dialogue, criticizing the place. Instead of being sore losers, lets be good sports, lick our wounds and move on. It was really nice, the quality of interaction on this thread. I had fun reading it.
If we have it in us, we'll make it. Personally, I think this thread was awesome coz so many ppl had it in them. So see you soon on the other side of success.
Best of Luck People
Cheers Disha
p.s Am very in awe of Kari (ur posts have been awesome)

Hey Disha... Your post was quite inspriring in the fact that it makes us think about the road ahead instead of crying over the broken pieces of our dreams...
Personally i feel that we should not give up...i mean like someone on this thread said, fight together till the very end... (somehow sounds like war dont it)...
Atleast we can be assured that we had a proactive approach and just dint sit here and express our anger on the thread and thats it...
All i know is that its surprising to see people with no connection to advertising being selected and people who were so passionate about it were not...here i do not refer to anybody in particular....because it would seem like pulling down others in my bid to seem superior...
Other than this we all need to move on...as many of you may know...i had been selected for sibm cm as well..so i look forward to joining symbi...and maybe make myself another dream...
Think about what matters most to me and the long road ahead... one thing is for sure...i shall remain in advertising...
Think big and u shall get somewhere...think small and ul be nowhere....
Keep smiling everyone...and keep your heads high...thx for the compliment disha...
This maybe my last post on this forum...somehow there doesnt seem to be any point in continuing to post here......
I have written a letter to Mr. Atul Tandon...Maybe it will do something...maybe not...all i know is that it was the last ditch effort of a desperate person...maybe it will touch a chord in his heart...then again maybe not...

Hey Karishma,
Thanks for sending in a missive to Mr. Atul Tandon. I tried getting his ID, but to no avail. Inspired by you, I am now at full throttle to write a letter to Mr. Tandon in longhand to express injustice done to me and others who truly deserved. Hopefully this effort from my end will tug at his heart-strings.
I second, third, fourth your opinion on a lot of people who are totally disconnected to the communications industry being selected. I for one, know a couple of people who have made it to MICA this year without any prior knowledge or experience in this industry. It is commonplace. Nothing unique to this year. Last year, a friend of mine got a call and the night before his interview he was at my residence getting to know the fundaes of communication industry from me. I am not faffing about or sending holier-than-thou signals. But the truth is he made it to the merit list and eventually chucked it for TAPMI.
MICA, the only institute that I've been applying to from the last two years. Write CAT and apply to MICA ....write CAT and apply to MICA. After having got a call, I sniffed a victory but it is all turning out to be rancid. The hardwork I put into this call is ineffable. Three long years of tracking the communcations indutry and knowing in depth about this industry and also being a part of it only for the sheer love that I possess for this industry, has left me with a heartache.
Nevertheless, as I have mentioned in my earlier post, let us all fight till the end, for I know a lot of us deserve to be at MICA. If not, this ain't the end of the world for me. It all starts now for me. And I am cocksure that I am gonna fight to get myself a good breakthru in this industry and make headway for myself.
Hey Disha, Thanks a ton. It was quite an inspiring post.
I have been following this thread regularly...My story goes something like this - Applied to MICA...got a call for MET & GD/PI...wasnt too sure if i wanted to attend the same..coz i have always wanted to get a MBA in Fin..But nother friend had a call too..so thought this is a good oppurtunity to catch up and decided to attend the whole process (yea..thats how much i wanted mica)...
Messed up my GD...If anybody ever wrote a book on "how to screw up gd's"..my mica gd would be perfect....after this i just put the whole thing behind me..and started mugging for gmat and stuff....
After a couple of days..surprise surprise...my mum called me at work n said...u have been waitlisted at MICA...and i was like "poor one ma, try something else".....but she kept insisting..and well i had to buy it.
Probed over this for a couple of days..everyone i knew thought MICA is the place to be..but my gut said otherwise...i used to read this thread, posts by kari and others..and say to myself...these guys r so damn enthu abt this...they definetly deserve to be in MICA..and not someone like me who'd take it up just coz well..its a great place.
and well, finally i somehow convinced my folks and myself against MICA...and i am very glad abt it...i just logged in today..to see hazar happy posts abt all you extremely wonderful and talented ppl getting final admits at MICA..but now well..all i can say is am sorry...
Shit happens...and its okie...makes u get just a lil tougher..and also makes you set ur goals much higher than u wud normally have.
