Hola todos. Just wish to register my delight at having made it to MICA. Also got a final call from IMT but between the 2 I reckon IMT offers no contest. So unless my IIMC call withstands my horrendous performance at the GD/PI and stands converted, I'm off to Ahmedabad, or should I say Shela? Also, havent checked my XIMB results yet - but who cares abt that nemore? Not me, for sure. Funny story abt my MICA call. I checked the website when the results came out (for real) and entered my no. with a 0 as it says on the prospectus. Needless to say, I was greeted with a most disappointing apology which sent me spiralling into a bout of Melon Collie and Infinite Sadness and all my insecutirities about my future consumed the next 3-4 days of my life, until, ie, my Dad arrived with letter from MICA in hand. Of course on getting the letter I thought it would contain words of further apology aka my MDI regret letter. So imagine what a shock when I read the words 'Welcome to MICA'!! Still, pessimistic as I am, I was actually convinced that this was a hoax or they'd sent me the final call-letter by mistake. So I logged in to the site again and this time entered the Appln. no. without the 0 (wise am I for I had figured out my previous folly all by myself...). And lo and behold, words of congratulation!! neway, as things stand now I'll be delighted to spend the next 2 years of my life at MICA - if the crowd there happens to be anything like some of the characters in here I'll have a ball-and-a-half. 😃 Just one qs., as far as I know Gujarat is a dry state - does that mean I'll have to stay teetotalled for 2 yrs?? I know this may seem trivial to some of you, but to me it is most definitely NOT. I need fuel once in a while to function as intended. Plz could a senior shed some postitive light on this matter? I would be most grateful. I want to end by saying that this is one of the finest threads I have come across on the internet and I truly hope that Karishma and Jormund and all u guys who are so desperate to get into MICA and are on the wait-list do make it eventually. If u want my seat pray to the demons below that IIMC takes pity on me....

It's simple really, I want to get into Communications, always have. Hence the General Mgmt. course at places like IMT or XIMB doesn't intrigue me as much as the Comm. Mgmt. course at MICA. But if I make it to IIMC then it's another issue - 'cos the IIM tag is not to be taken lightly...neway, that's how I feel.

i guess collectedsoul here is talking about IIM Calcutta and not Indian Institute of Mass Communication Delhi... :)
Hi friends, I got my letter and have sent my DD which will reach them by Monday at the latest. Is it true that one will start moving up the list once the DD reaches MICA?Another question is that can one have a lappy other than the Centrino/Apple G4 format as they seem to be favoured by MICA!!!!One can get a much cheaper laptop rather than geting one @ 72 grandz from MICA.
Make sure you ask for a receipt. Or at least an e-mail confirmation .Call up and ask for KGK Pillai (Registrar) or Mr. Luv Thakker (Admin) to track your status. You can get any computer you want as long as its a laptop and wi-fi enabled . The institute is in talks with HCL-Toshiba for a deal for your batch. Incidentally, most in the class of 2006 sport Toshiba A50 Satellites. We had two options--a downpayment of 62k v/s a term-wise installment of 12k. You will get the laptop a week into your life at Shela if you opt for the MICA deal. All the best to the Class of 2007. Vinay Class of 2006 MICA

Hey Smirnoffication... I personally dropped by at mica and handed over my dd to mr. luv...but he didnt give me a receipt in spite of asking n told that the receipt would come my way during the registration time in june...
So if anyone gets an email confirmation or a receipt for that matter plz do post on the forum...
OK guys i'm gonna say this in points and as succintly as possible
1.Karishmag-ji...I am sorry I called you a sycophant... I am sayin this partly because I was a lil stone cold crazy when I typed the previous message but mostly because I am in no mood to argue( i told you tht you shud ignore it if you thought otherwise)
2.I am waitlisted......no I wasnt at first 'selected' and then downgraded to 'waitlisted' although I can imagine how tht must feel
3.no I am not frustrated...never have been....dunno wot the word exactly means.....
4.guys who've taken loans please give us step by step detailed procedure if possible
5.can I get a loan against my waitlist letter
6.if I take the 87k from my dad and pay the first installment and if I am eventually selected(dont really see that happening...but anyway) will it later be adjusted against my loan amount and will I be able to repay my dad the amount.....
7.for the people who are wondering about the prospects after they pass out of MICA....my suggestion is talk to ppl who have passed out a couple of years ago and ask them jus one thing..."if I slog my ass off at MICA for 2 years can I be rest assured that I will do well (do well=be able to comfortably service my loan installments as well as sustain myself) later......or is there a luck factor that comes in ....and if there is how large is it.....what is the worst case scenario that you know of....as in is there someone who did well at MICA but is struggling evn after having been in the industry for a couple of years....
8.lastly.....everybody keep spamming MICA with mails and phonecalls admonishing them to release the waitlist nos. and no. of seats tht are actually there...the will eventually cave in...I am sure....
PS.absolutely no mud slinging or ruffling of feathers in this post

arrey bhai sorry bola to bhi urge to argue....nonplussing really....neway shud be a fun 2 yrs with you if by some freak stroke of nature we do land up at MICA ......
Just spoke to a guy who passed out from MICA last yr. Heres a efw things he told me 1.not everyone gets Brand management as a major.....depends on how you perform in your first year.... 2.you will recover your loan in the stipulated period ( i gues max is 9yrs) ......how much you reduce the period by depends on your life style and savings rate more than anything else 3.the marketing courses at MICA are mostly like those offered by the likes of SP Jain MDI etc. except tht those courses are a lil tilted towards the finance aspects of Marketing whereas the ones at MICA are more related to advertising...hence their funda of Integrated Marketing Comm. 4.you dont get to actually make ads if you pass out of MICA.... 5.growth in ad agencies is faster than in big corporates although the starting salaries are rather low....in 4-5 yrs both ppl shud be earning the same amount.... 6.Mr.KGK Pillai is the right person to talk to for all admissions related querries....NOT Mr.Lav Thakker. 7.The batch size at MICA has been decreasing over the last 3 yrs so no. of seats increasing is a lil unlikely

well...well...well...so if i want to do brand management i wouldn't get it if i don't 'perform' in the first year?...what performance r we talking about?...marks??...if yes then that's sad...u can't judge a person's passion for a subject by the marks he gets...what it effectively means is that if i don't get the marks i would land up specialising in either marketing research or media planning (both of which i don't want to)...that would be interesting...pursuing a career u may not like...anyways...i hope the MICA seniors would be able to throw some light on this...i mean i made it clear in the interview about my specialisation...and i guess that's why i got in...so it would be strange and unfair if i would have to specialise in something else

I was told that only the top 10-20% of the class would get Brand Mgmt..So yes you might end up doing a course tht doesent intrest you in the slightest....
Many messages being posted around regarding placement/salary/future prospects/loan repayment etc. etc. Well ...well... let me tell you one thing if you have the passion and interest for the big 'C' then only jump to miCa...thats why its a specialised field unlike others you have options still open after ur r done with them.
And yes as somebody out here has said that initially its a struggle if you talk moolah being media but after 2-3 years it gets easier. So watch out...
And all MICAlals out there watchout here i COMEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeee...
Still have no idea about the loan..have to start now i guess...
Laptop, i still feel its better if u get your own....and that reminds me somebody talked of having Wi-fi enabled laptops, does MICA have hotspots for that to be of some use???

Yep, the classrooms, the hostels, the canteen, the library - they're all Wi-fi hotspots... you'll definitely need a wi-fi enabled lappy.
I thought i'd just volunteer this information to all the guys keen on a career in communications / advtg and hve not got into MICA.
Lintas (Lowe) has opened a school called NorthPoint Centre of Learning. www.northpointindia.com
They have 2 programs right now. One for Media and another for Mktg Commn
The college is 1 year old. The media program(the first batch of which will graduate this year in may) is 12 months long and the mktg comm(which is starting this may) is 18 months long. The course consists of classroom learning as well as field projects at Lintas' various departments. (Lowe, Initiative Media, Linterland, sales stints with client cos. of lintas) their course is structured such that u do 2 weeks at northpoint in khandala and 2 weeks in bbay(not sure abt exact division of time) at the depts of lowe. seems prety kickass
just thought u guys would like to check it out.
Could someone guide me if the is already a thread for NorthPoint Centre of Learning. If not, how can i start a new thread??
i guess collectedsoul here is talking about IIM Calcutta and not Indian Institute of Mass Communication Delhi... :)
lol....yeah of course I was referring to IIM Calcutta - I didnt even know that there was an Indian Institute of Communication. Is it better than Jamia for Mass Comm?
I hate to labor the point and harp on this sensitive issue once again.....but, could Dynamica or Slash or someone who is at MICA plz tell me and others who will be joining MICA about the availability or (god-forbid) non-availability of alcohol at MICA? It would give me some time to mentally prepare for a couple of years of abstinence (should that be the case)..... PS. no offence intended to puritans here.

and i also agree that this thread really ROCKS!!....well after all it's a thread on a COMMUNICATIONS management school !! n ya there is a thread on MICA batch of 2005-2007 too started by darknight....
Hi...Can somebody give me an idea of the subjects we would have to study in the first year at MICA...Do we have to study a foreign language too..if yes, which one?
