My mother got someone to speak to some one at MICA office, since my letter has not yet arrived, I have been advised to dash off the DD asap, and I also believe a WL no was given.
This is just to advice all of u -esp doen south- who are still waiting for the letter, to call up the office confirm it has been dispatched, and send the DD soon. Please note that especially fro the waitlisted souls, the sooner u send it the better
Btw my D D number is 60- NOT at all sunny..:-(
Lets clear some things here. We've had enough of mud-slinging against MICA.
It has been repeated many times over. There was a glitch at the IT end while compiling final admit lists. The mailed hard copy from the programme office is the only conclusive proof of your admit status. This is the case with not just MICA . Many prominent B-Schools print a disclaimer message on the online admission page to this effect.
Accusations of this kind are not new to us. But as someone who has been closely associated with the administration and the programme office, I think your accusations hold no water.
We at MICA pride ourselves on merit-based admissions. However, a very high CAT score offers no guarantee of admission. The Class of 2006 has students who have scored in excess of 99%-ile but have made it to the institute through the waitlist.
I am forwarding the transcript of our posts to our Registrar. I am sure you will find in him a more credible voice of reason.

Lets get some things straight... i am not here on a MICA bashing spree... i am only fighting the cause of Truth.....
The following points are worth consideration:
1) The reason that you offer me is that it was purely a "TECHNICAL GLITCH"..... Can somebody from the computers background be kind enough to explain why it is so difficult to generate a list of 100 odd candidates for the merit list???...Especially when you have a specialized IT department for this cause??? A major glitch occured when the result was declared and taken off the website in a matter of hours... and now you claima second glitch.... Any Explanation??
2)If i as a candidate from the merit list is thrown out into the wait list. it jolly well means that some one from the waitlist was upgraded to the merit list.... (so as to keep the number in the merit list constant)....On what basis was such a person upgraded??Any Explantion??
3)If there really was any technical error, why on earth is the institute mum on this.... They could very well hve offered an explanation in the call letter...Or did they assume that a person in the merit list thrown out into the waitlist will never complain?? Or never come to know about it??
4) What EXACTLY is the problem in declaring the waitlist no.???..... Is it so that the people dont come to know their relative positions in the waitlist and those at the end of the waitlist are not discouraged into paying the money??

Anyway...i know of lotta ppl who are waitlisted but wont take up Mica...so at 60 (if u say thats the no) u stand a good chance

I share ur predicament in being WAITLISTED after getting SELECTED...but I have my reasons to believe that there WAS a technical glitch just as u have ur reasons to believe MICA stabbed u in the back....
However there is no denying that mica has been pretty unprofessional with their admissions....
Hopefully things will be fine in due course and most of us w/l chaps will get through...

I got my letter and have sent my DD which will reach them by Monday at the latest.Is it true that one will start moving up the list once the DD reaches MICA?Another question is that can one have a lappy other than the Centrino/Apple G4 format as they seem to be favoured by MICA!!!!One can get a much cheaper laptop rather than geting one @ 72 grandz from MICA.
Awesome that people are managing to get numbers (ppl selected, waitlisted nos) finally! Almost makes one wonder what they are upto now :)
About sending the DD ASAP, it can hardly be a first-come-first-serve basis thing... its not like selling candy... or is it? Relax... theres still eternity ahead...
And people, @ the DD reciepts... I am all for ranting mismanagement and demanding transperency and stuff, but please- Have *some* faith... this is a prestigious educational institution we are talking about, not some corrupt Govt office.

Yeah I know, i too thunk that its a little insane if a premeier institution like MICA gives people seats on a first come first serve basis.,I dont think thats the case. I was just relaying what had been communicated to moi ,for the benefit of those who are still waiting for their letters to send in thier DD.
Karishma-The number given to me was the WL number, pretty sure about that.My mom got a colleagues' colleague to get the job done.. Had the connection been a little less circuitous, i sure would have had ur WL numbers checked out..

if someone asked me to choose only on the basis of the institute i would have gone for mica, but there are other things to be taken into account, so its ta-ta to my-ka.

its fine i guess but actually had sumthin worse..coz i happeneed to be in ahmedabad 2 days back
and thought ill go chek if im actually now kicked off the waitlist,,
so went..met mr.luv ..and told him the problem ..so hes like no u not selected ..i said k,but alos expalined why i had come all the way from the city of ahmedabad ..told him how i was waitlisted earlier and all he had to say was that its not possible..we have not made any errors..
i was shoked!!..all i said was im not going to ven argue i have seen it with my own eyes wht do u mean its not possible,,and he very rudely replied ..you are wrong..
so thats all the answer they can give after makin mistakes with the lists!!

Now my parents will pay the interest till the time I complete the course, and after that I'll be paying back interest+principal for 5 years. The EMI will be approximately Rs.13-14000 per month. What I want to know is that when I get placed will I make enough to pay back my student loan, and pay for a decent livelihood as well?
I really need to know this. Coz the numbers here are a little overwhelming, and if I can't make enough to maintain a reasonable sustenance, I dunno how I'll be able to take up the course. Pls help... and fast.

if what eyehatpeaches says is true, MICA has been absolutely insensitive about this whole fiasco.
i always thought MICA was one of those few institutes left that actually cares about its students, and believes in playing fair.
after experiencing this whole naatak, my views about MICA are changing.
i still maintain that it is a fabulous institute, but instead of gaining respect by playing fair, it is letting itself down. making mistakes is fine, but behaving rudely to ppl who have taken the pain of going all the way there, just because of some error made by the institute, is downright disgusting.

ive been doing a lot of research about mica regarding exactly what uve asked about, cos the situation is the same with me. this is what i came to know from a guy who passed out of mica 3 years back and is now working for a leading ad agency.
1. after mica, u have four options. ad agencies, marketing, channels or market research cos.
2. ad agencies will give u around 20k in hand at the beggining. after a few years, u get a very good payoff in terms of money. moreover, a mica grad is god at an ad agency.
3. other profiles will pay better, around 25-30k in hand. u can do extremely well in media, where the pay n bonuses are very generous.
4. many ppl opt to get into sales n marketing, again, these profiles pay better.
5. i general, a mica guy will definitely catch up with grads from other bschools after a few years, in some cases, will outrun them.
the bottomline is this: if ur taking a loan, be prepared to fight it out the initial years. u will have a fabulous career ahead with lots of money, but u will have to struggle initially.
this is what the real picture is like. if u want any further inputs, feel free to ask.

Lintas (Lowe) has opened a school called NorthPoint Centre of Learning. www.northpointindia.com
They have 2 programs right now. One for Media and another for Mktg Commn
The college is 1 year old. The media program(the first batch of which will graduate this year in may) is 12 months long and the mktg comm(which is starting this may) is 18 months long. The course consists of classroom learning as well as field projects at Lintas' various departments. (Lowe, Initiative Media, Linterland, sales stints with client cos. of lintas)
their course is structured such that u do 2 weeks at northpoint in khandala and 2 weeks in bbay(not sure abt exact division of time) at the depts of lowe. seems prety kickass
just thought u guys would like to check it out.
