Life@GIM (Goa Institute of Management)

The students of GIM connected with Mr Sneh Jain, Co-founder of The Baker’s Dozen, India’s first artisan bakery, where he discussed about the 'Career Trajectory of an Entrepreneur'.

Mr Jain busted the myths about entrepreneurship and shared key learnings from his journey of more than a decade. While he deliberated for a stellar idea for his start-up, he realised, “Most of the times for an entrepreneur, it is the third idea that takes-off. So, waiting for the one perfect idea does not even make sense logically.” He concluded his talk by reinforcing the importance of surrounding ourselves with people who support and understand us.

The talk was a part of the Leaders’ Interaction Summit held by The Corporate Relations and Placement Cell, PGDM. We hope the students get a chance to connect with Mr Jain on campus soon.

"Think out of the box and develop your own intuition to solve business problems.", said Mr Deepan Vashi, SVP & Global Head of Solutions, Health Plans and Healthcare Services Business at Firstsource, visiting faculty at GIM, while speaking on 'COVID-19 Impact on the Healthcare Industry' in an Industry Connect session, organized by the Corporate Relations and Placement Committee of Healthcare Management.

Mr Vashi explained the importance of intuition and how it can be used to drive insights. In order to make the students understand the concept of intuition and the ways it can be implemented, he elucidated the four very important lenses- money, information, customer, and risk, to which each person needs to pay attention.

We are grateful to Mr Deepan Vashi for sharing his knowledge on how to solve industrial problems during difficult times and are looking forward to hosting more such sessions with him on campus.

The quest for triumph was very evident among all the participants of the Carromania event organized by Prayas- The Sports Club of GIM. The players strategically played their game, making sure that each strike brought them closer to scoring the 'queen'.

With safety protocols in place, the event helped the students to bond with each other and rejoice their #LifeAtGIM.

"Right from manufacturing and sales to digital transition, we faced many challenges, but we could seize the opportunity because our top most concern was continuity of business", said Mr Rajorshi Ganguli, President and Global HR Head at Alkem Laboratories Ltd., in a virtual interactive session organized by the Corporate Relations and Placement Team, Healthcare Management.

“Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is not a new concept, it has evolved. It is driven by the spirit of doing things voluntarily” said Mr Ajay Pandey, Co-Founder, and Leader, Thinkthrough Consulting in a talk organized by the Corporate Relations and Placement BIFS. Earlier, the aristocrats had a peasant and patron approach but after the industrial revolution, organizations began focusing on the well-being of their employees and ways to give back to the community.

Mr Pandey expressed two aspects through which contemporary CSR is seen i.e. Shareholder and Stakeholder perspectives. In the shareholders' approach, organisations take up social responsibility which is lawful, and profitable to them. While in the stakeholders' approach, organisations take up activities that are not only profitable to the community as well as the organisation.

We thank Mr Ajay Pandey for such an interactive session and we look forward to hosting him again soon.

GIM was pleased to host Mr Parthiban Srinivasan, Technical Architect, VMware, in a virtual session organised by the Corporate Relations and Placement Cell – PGDM. He spoke on the topic ‘Digital Transformation using Cloud, New Technologies that VMware is venturing into’.

Mr Srinivasan highlighted the difference between the terms ‘digitisation’, ‘digitalisation’, and ‘digital transformation’. He elaborated on the four influencers of digital transformation; customers, industry trends, employees, and innovation.

“Customers are the core influencers driving the digital transformation”, said Mr Srinivasan. He explained the key technologies of 'Application Modernisation' i.e. cloud computing, containers, microservices, and automation.

We thank Mr Parthiban Srinivasan for an insightful session and hope to host him on campus soon.

"In times of adversity, look at everything as an opportunity. As history suggests, every country that was able to find a silver lining in the black cloud, rose to prominence", said Director Ajit Parulekar, on the 72nd anniversary of the largest republic in the world.

On this day, India declared its morals and ethics for the world to witness. Today, we stand here in solidarity with all our brothers and sisters to commemorate the ever glowing and growing country, we call home.

Spirit of the event was set by a mesmerizing rendition of the national anthem by OxyGIM, the official band of GIM.

To celebrate the feeling of togetherness on this Republic Day, HRiday, in their event 'Abhaar', came forward to recognize the sacrifices, dedication, and contributions made by the support staff who always ensure smooth functioning of GIM, and presented them with tokens of appreciation.

It was truly a surreal experience, and we, at GIM, wish everyone a very Happy Republic Day!

GIM witnessed an atmosphere of patriotism and enthusiasm during The Annual Theatre Competition organized by The Centre for Creativity, Innovation and Design Thinking (CCIDT).

The amphitheatre was full of energy when Aarambh, GIM's Performance Art Theater group, displayed their skills, talent and passion for the theme 'Qurbani,' made by the people of India to make this country great!

At the end of this exciting event, Team PGP-2 was declared the winners.

While a few experienced the event with their companions under a starry sky, others viewed it through their screens, thereby making sure that none of the GIMites missed their first-ever hybrid TEDxGIM event organized by TEDx GIM.

With all the safety guidelines and protocols, TEDxGIM was screened in an amphitheatre for students on campus and on Zoom for students at home.

The event had 4 speakers; Mrs Rafina (Siya) Shaikh, Mr Ratneshwaran Maheswaran, Ms Annushka Hardikar, and Mr Samarth Kholkar, and all of them took the audience on a journey of their own ‘Learning Never Stops’ stories. What added a cherry on the top of the cake was Mr Ankur Dinge's mouth harp performance.

Congratulations to Team 'Rise and Shine' for securing the second position in Startup Garage '21, organised by MICA Ahemdabad.

We wish you attain greater heights in all your future endeavours.
