#InterneesSpeakYashasvi Agrawal, student of PGDM-IBM 2016-18 batch sharing her experience of internship at Zoom Insurance Brokers Pvt. Ltd.“BIMTECH has provided a wonderful industry exposure to work on the topic "Developing District-wise Rainfall Prediction model and studying Decreasing productivity trend of select crops in Orissa" in renowned organization Zoom Insurance Brokers Pvt. Ltd. The model developed can be used to predict future rainfall patterns on the basis of different atmospheric predictors affecting Indian Monsoon like temperature, wind speed, surface pressure etc., thus helping insurance companies for better risk pricing and brokers for better advising. The trend study would help to further identify all possible risk factors affecting decrease in productivity of major crops of Orissa. This would help in better underwriting practices of insurance companies. This three months learning experience helped me to enhance my analytical, statistical as well as managerial skill in best possible way. It also provided opportunity to connect with different industry people and maintain good relations. It groomed my overall personality to further seek better opportunities in my career.”http://imgur.com/LSiLlKn

Lyceum Masterclass 2017 at BIMTECH on 26th August
In ancient Greece, “Lyceum” was the venue - during the times of Socrates, Aristotle, Plato and other great philosophers - where they invited their disciples for discussion, debate and discourse on any subject under the sun. These conversations have mostly been preserved and are available to the modern generation as Dialogues with Great Philosophers by publishers like Penguin. [Incidentally, Lyceum also doubled up as gymnasium during part of the day, keeping in view the Greek obsession with male physical beauty.] The pedagogy as it evolved in the ancient times, took the form of one of the disciples asking questions and the mentor leading him to the truth through focussed dialogue and not by providing readymade answers. The learning of the disciple occurred in his voyage of discovery to truth. LYCEUM MasterClass 2017, industry academia collaboration held at BIMTECH on 26th August. In its modern adaptation in BIMTECH, students in groups of 3 collaborate to deal with a topical and trending subject in the form of a 10/15 minutes presentation before a panel of eminent corporate thought leaders. These experts respond by asking the students for clarifications/questions and by engaging them in conversation and dialogue, which would enlighten them about the subject.
