What kind of updates ??
I can answer any specifics and I browse here atleast once a day.
The simple problem is I do not know what to write and what I should not write.

And, Simba how are your preparations going on? Hope you have completed formalities for the loan and visa stuff.

Campus is nice. It is very hot in Hyderabad (actually I am from chennai and I should not be writing about heat). The built up infrastructure is pretty good, actually better than a couple of other schools I visited and one guy who had come back from US said that it was better than some of the US schools.

Processes - Nothing much to write about atleast till this time. Things have been going smooth atleast for me (Shameek and Amit might have different opinions).

The actual term starts next week. So, that will add up to the heat we are already experiencing. Will write something after the term starts. Orientation is going on now.

If I have to talk about the batch profile beyond the stats, then it is going to take a couple of more weeks. Wait till then.

I met vingmat. Have to catch up with others who posted here that they are coming here.

Hi Guys...

What a wonderful world this has turned out to be.. its unbelievable to see such a good discussion forum on MBA in India..

Could not miss out on the oppurtunity on getting some valuable advice from such a intelligent community..

Left India after getting 2+ years of experience, in late 2000 to be exact, from one of the top most IT companies in India..you can guess it among a short list of TCS, Wipro etc etc. Not a big deal, everybody is in IT now.. Not a software guy though.. more inclined on Inrastructure and web..

Have been out for almost 5 years now. Feels like need to do some more with my life. Enough of IT.. seen enough business side but have an IT tag, so no chance. Thought of getting a degree from US but its a bachelor only.. since I did 3 year degree from India...

I plan to apply for 2006-2007 batch at ISB.. GMAT are still due..

Any word of advice will be really appreciated..

Profile:

1) 3 year degree from Delhi
2) 2 years of exp. in IT (India)
3) 4 year degree (Comp. Sc.) US
4) 7 years of exp. in IT.
5) 27+ years of age

Thanks

Go ahead and apply. In case, you are planning to apply for the class of 2007, then get GMAT out of your head as quickly as possible.
I quite don't understand what you mean by saying that you have a 3- Year degree from Delhi and a 4-year degree in Comp.Sc. Does that mean that you studied for 7 years?? Anyway, you feel you are not the nomral software guy. So, go ahead ans try to project that.
BTW, you still have a lot of time. Convince yourself that you are going to apply and then start working. And try to apply in the first cycle.
In case, you want some other specific information, then please post.

Hi Sudhir .. as I see, having an extra yr (1.5 - 2.5) is not going to make a huge difference in your final placements prospects. as far as ib/consult jobs.. its not a completely straightforward mapping between your profile & job requirements. there are various other factors at play. If you want more specifics, you can PM me.. but yes, your exp will be def relavant to these firms.
& yes,avoid posting in CAPS. 😃

Good to hear that you got your share of in your life... Cool ... Congos...

I am a IT guy with a top MNC with 3 Yrs Experience looking out for a MBA degree... Checking for either IIMA / ISB / IIMB... I am looking for a good school in Marketing Majors

What do you guys feel ?? Lemme know...

I didnt really quite understood, the area I am looking for is "investment banking" which will come under finance, so my question basically is that is it possible to become an associate in any investment bank after doing an MBA from ISB considering I have work ex mainly of IT.
which means switching from IT to finance after 4.5 yrs in IT.

Also to make up for my profile I am pursuing a diploma course in investment banking from ICFAI and I am looking forward to do few more certifications related to finance.

Also what kind of positions are offered in finance for people who are from IT background

Please provide your suggestions.

thanks and regards,
Trimurthi

In case, you are sure that you want to do an MBA, then go ahead and apply. There are some CA's with around 1.5 - 2 years of experience in the current batch.

- Ramki.

@troy2004 ..

that post was in reply to your query abt profiles of IT junta here in this batch.
as regards you point abt shift from IT to finance after 4-5 yrs of WE.

my take: its not easy. career switches are always hard to manage. that too in a 1 yr MBA course. having said that, i will let you know that there have been ppl in past batches who have managed these switches successfully.

I didnt really quite understood, the area I am looking for is "investment banking" which will come under finance, so my question basically is that is it possible to become an associate in any investment bank after doing an MBA from ISB considering I have work ex mainly of IT.

If you are looking for a Yes/No answer .. then it is Yes. But keep in mind that ibanking or any fin company will not value your prior unrelated experience. Plus you have the extra job of convincing the recruiters abt why you want to shift careers. So, I would say, identify your objectives a little more broadly rather than "shift to ibank".

& roles offered to IT ppl -- frankly, I have no idea now. Detailed placement report for last yr's batch is not out yet. I can help on these matters only later.

@Sudhir ..

As Ramki said .. if you feel that 06 will be the right time for you to pursue your MBA, pls apply. From what I see, 2.5 yrs is not much diff from 1.5 yrs of WE unless you have something substantial up ur sleeve during this yr.
As regards ibank/consulting choice for you .. it is very much possible.

hth,
~amit

in the ibanking realm once u join a bank and after ure put through theinitial training wherein u have a chance to get comofrtable with the different sectors (not within the bank but rather the sectors as in power, telecom, construction, pharma etc whose M&A; deals u are assigned to) , ure either given a choice to chooose which all sectors ud like to handle or sectors r matched with people's background

so very possible that coming from an IT background u might be put to work on the semiconductors industry or something similar

banks in the us even hire art majors at the undergrad level as analysts and when the same go on to their mba in finance or marketing, theyre hired back as post-mba associates...

so whether u even need finance exp beforej oinign an ibank ...most denfintely NO ...if ure sharp enough ull learn the basic caoncepts without having to know any specialized finance..and ure anyway never a part of the team that does the actual valuation of deals unless u can prove otherwsie ...the phds in stochastic calculus do that and ur job is merely to present thier results and go on investor roadshows or atleast thats how it works in the US
