Also, what GMAT score should I be looking at to have a fighting chance? Any ideas?

Would there be any difference in selection chances for applying jn cycle 1 nd 2?...if so by ehen should the gmat exam be given?

Hi,

Am going to apply for 2017 in ISB.

Is there any course i need to attend ( in management side) which will help me to boost my resume during my application ?

Hi. When should I take up my GMAT exam for enrolling in 2017 and also how much should I atleast score for me have a scope of entering ISB?

Sorry guys I missed the party for a while...miserable banker life 😃 Any idea why ISB extended admission deadlines this yr?? Also im getting increasingly concerned about what alums think of this school. I know there are some ppl on here that blindly support the school but I can only think its what they have been told to do. Almost all alums ive spoken to are stud profiles and I do take their comments seriously. well last time i met some alums there was some pretty intense talk about some alum elections being manipulated by school ppl (I shall not name to prevent scandal here and i know there are school moles here :)...they sounded pretty upset bout pettiness and some so called 2-3 powerful ppl in the school running all the show.. I mean i really dont care personally but if this is no different than typical indian set ups with politics and all...big negative for me about this school. Alums seem generally proud of isb and care for school but they also sound increasingly disillusioned about the way things are. I know we Indians dont have a habit of talking bout things openly ..we prefer to sweep things under carpet but truth doesnt change by suppressing it..if this is once in a lifetime degree, school culture, environment and quality of leaders matters! Alums here -  Arjun Nayyar / Shankey? Also another comment i heard is the high number of startups/ecom companies dominating placements so while 100pc or close to 100pc placements may be claimed, what are the quality of placements? what is the job churn

Also would like to know about how ISB degree is perceived internationally - particularly US both from work permit stand point and job stand point - if say one wants to relocate to US. Data and true account will help not speculation and hope pls...Would love to hear from alums on this..

My queries :

1. How do adcom look at profiles with MS degree?

2. BTech (NIT) +2yrs workex + MS (abroad) +3yrs workex(abroad). Can I say total workex of 5yrs?

3. Semiconductors Technology Development is counted under general IT category?

Thanks,

Looking for advice on the following:-

As of now, I have multiple interests and am pondering my next career move based on them. Firstly, I have an admit from Tata Institute of social sciences, Mumbai  for MA in social entrepreneurship. The idea of the programme is to help the selected candidates to set up their own venture in the social sector.

Secondly, I have an interest in finance. If I do not take up TISS, I plan to work for a MFI, and take up CFA to shift into the finance sector. Work for further 2 years approx and then try for ISB in 2017. After MBA I expect myself to work in the Finance sector.

I am more inclined for the first option and at the same time think that I will be going for an MBA down the line after this. If I do opt for this path, I wanted to know how will ISB perceive this. I know it all depends on the way I justify it but since this is also a kind of a management degree will they hold it against me? Or is it simply better to take the second option.

Thirdly, are my acads real bad? Do I have a realistic chance at ISB with the career steps I plan to take in some years. Please let me know since your opinion will help me decide my next career move. Thanks.

ISB application 2015-16: significant changes seen this time

The ISB PGP application 2015-16 (for class of 2017) sees significant changes this year. Mentor Mpact highlights these changes and discusses the impact of the same for applicants.

ISB PGP deadlines 2015 - October 15 and January 5

For the first time ever, ISB has changed its application deadlines - this according to us is a big shift. The application deadlines for 2015 are as follows:

CYCLE 1 - October 15, 2015 (time: midnight IST)

CYCLE 2 - January 5, 2016 (time: midnight IST)

While this change will of course mean that applicants get more time to take the GMAT and prepare their applications, it has a flipside for those applicants who are also targeting other top global B-schools. Most global B-schools have their R1 deadline in September-October and R2 deadline in first week of January. Hence, the ISB PGP deadlines this year coincide with other global schools. Previously, applicants followed a simple strategy - submit the ISB application first and then focus on other schools. However, this year, they will have to juggle between different applications and submit them all together. Moreover, ISB results will be released at a similar time as other top schools globally. Thus, for applicants for whom going abroad is only Plan B, it will be tough to follow the strategy of 'wait and apply to other schools only if ISB is a reject.'

Our advice: start early and submit your application on time.

One professional evaluation

Like many other top B-schools, ISB this year has asked for only one professional evaluation for the ISB PGP 2015-16 application instead of two in the previous years. This surely would reduce the hassle for applicants and seems like less work on one front for them. However, it will also reduce the scope for any error, making it critical for applicants to choose the evaluator wisely.

Our advice: Take an evaluation from an individual who is well acquainted with your professional performance, preferably from a direct supervisor. Do not choose someone who simply has a big title, thinking that this will carry weight with the admissions committee, because that person will not be able to justify your case by writing specific pointers and examples about your profile.

Scholarship

Under the scholarship section there are many full, half and partial scholarships offered. However, there are 10 merit based full scholarships at ISB, which are available only to R1 applicants. ISB is ensuring that the deserving candidates are those applicants who are focused and have ISB as there first preference. For those contemplating between ISB PGP R1 deadline and R2 deadline, this should be an extra push to apply early.

Our advice: If scholarship is important for you, start your application early and apply in R1. But, if you think that your profile will significantly improve by R2, enhancing your chances of admission, wait for R2.

Application Buddy system

The ISB PGP application 2015-16 has introduced a buddy system for applicants. Applicants seeking this service will be paired up with a current ISB student who will act as a mentor for the applicant. This should help applicants get first hand insights into the school - life at ISB, courses, placements, interviews, et al.

Internship Section

ISB has added an internship section along with activities in the PGP application for 2015. Applicants can enter a brief summary of their part-time/internship experience, which was not possible in previous years. Many applicants (e.g. Chartered Accountants, for whom the article-ship is so much more than just an internship) can benefit from this addition.

Essays

ISB has significantly changed its essays once again this year and as an ISB alumnus myself who has been conducting interviews as part of the interviewing panel, this is always a refreshing change. I am confident that this shift will ensure that only the deserving candidates (who will give serious time and thought to the essays) get selected. The biggest shift in essays is their focus on very specific examples, leaving no scope for faffing. There is also some change seen in the word limit.

Essay 1: If we were to admit just one more student, make a compelling argument as to why that student should be you by describing an (only one) achievement in your personal/professional life that you are most proud of. What did you do that sets you apart from others? What did you learn? (400 words max)

Essay 2: Describe a (only one) defining moment in your personal/professional life when you had to make a risky decision, and explain what you did, why and the outcome?

OR

Describe a (only one) situation in your personal/professional life when you had to interact with people from diverse backgrounds. How did it affect you and what did you learn? (300 words max)

Essay 3: What are your post ISB career plans and how will your past experiences and the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) contribute to taking you there? (300 words max)

Essay 4 (Optional): Please use this space to explain any career breaks/provide any other information not covered elsewhere in the application that could significantly impact your candidature at ISB. Note: It is not necessary to write this essay. Please use this space only if there is something really significant that you would like us to know. (200 words max)

We will soon be providing our essay analysis in the follow-up blog.

All the best!

Hi puys ,

I'm a re-applicant....recently one of my colleagues who is taking his 1st shot at ISB asked me about the different function and industries that open up post MBA. I have my eyes on consulting and was able to share my research on the same, but I didn't have much to say about the other functions.

Do you people have any link or discussion forum in mind, which discusses about the different functions and industries that usually hire MBAs ?

I know about vault guides but in think going through all the guides will be too much....

please share your research and views

I applied for ISB last year and got rejected :-(. I see that the application feedback portal is live and have applied for feedback. I got a reply in email that the admissions team will get in touch with me. Can anyone enlighten me on how much time it usually takes for them to reply. Thanks in advance.

There have been a lot of queries about reject feedback from ISB- I will chip in with my knowledge about this- ISB is planning to get into deeper analysis than they have traditionally given, hence the delay. Expect some constructive feedback.

As the saying goes :intazaar ka phal meetha hota hai.....

I have about 2 months before I write the GMAT. Which books should I buy if I am aiming a 730+ and will be devoting a minimum of 6 hours daily over the course of 2 months.

Thanks in Advance
