Hi,
My name is Ambika.
My profile is: Class 10th: 80%(2004)
Class 12th : 68%(2006)
B.E.: 67% (Electronics MU) 2011 pass-out
I got placed in Hexaware Technologies in Oct 2011. I decided to do MBA after I joined the job. I joined TIME classes but was not regular. I felt that the job was a useless waste of a lot of time and energy since I was spending 11-13hrs a day to earn 18000 per month. I found it too hectic. So, as soon as my project got completed I quit in August 2012 without giving any notice(which was of 3 months). I thought I could prepare for CAT 2012 which was in November.
I couldn't prepare as much as I thought. I couldn't even put my 50%. I suddenly lost value since I was sitting idle at home. Nobody cared or expected anything from me. Left the job without taking exp letter. I failed big-time in CAT(as expected by family) got 72.7%ile in sec1 and 33%ile in sec2. I gave XAT and NMAT. All with pathetic results. I suck at VA, although being the school topper in English. I have my CMAT tomorrow.
I want to give CAT again. I have also filled up a form of SBI PO (because of my parents, both work in banks).
Now my parents say that I made a mistake leaving that job. Back then, they said that they support my decision and its not that "tumhare kamaane se humara ghar chalta ho" and you are free to choose what you want.
I want to fight. I feel so stuck and hopeless.
All I know now is that my approach is wrong. I live a pathetic life. I have cut out from all friends. I hate meeting people since the first thing they ask me is, "What are you doing these days?"
Sorry for spoiling up the mood here. I just wanted to share these feelings. Pl help me out.
Many people work and prepare for CAT at the same time. Not much is lost yet. So persevere in your efforts for future.
I think you need to decide your current state of preparation. Give one mock in CAT-like seriousness and then analyse it for 5 hours. Find your state and decide if you wanna prepare for it full-time till this year's CAT. Depending on your desire, you can also try for a job. But always be honest and never get staisfied. And you shall succeed.
Hi. I would like to ask you a question. After having a job, why did you want to do mba? Is it just because you found your job too hectic? If it is so, then if and when you do your mba and pass out with a job, your life is going to be a lot more hectic. If you were frustrated to have just 18k a month in lieu of 11-13 hours of work per day, you'll find it equally hectic with a post mba job, because you'll have to work with the same routine again. yes, maybe salary will be much more, but salary can only motivate you, cannot make your hectic life easy.
Secondly, you did a terrible mistake by leaving your job for appearing in the mba exams. That too without the work ex letter. Now you can never go back to the private job sector, atleast not in your field.
My suggestions to you will be,
1. Start working towards this year's mba exams from now. And this doesn't include you sitting in front of your books and mourning about the past or thinking about how well you performed in your school in English. MBA exams are different ballgames altogether and mostly, you need to practice a lot and get a hold of things that are asked over the years in these exams. Give atleast six to seven full hours everyday to your study. Gather the required books or resources you need and start now.
2. Apply to all the govn. sector jobs right now. Bank PO, Clerk, SBI, SSC CGLE, LIC. Everything you see in the newspaper. Sit in all the test and target a job. This is your plan B, in case you do not make it to a bschool even this time. Your preparation for mba will help you in these exams. In this way, even if you don't make it to a bschool this time, but make it to a job, you can always come back again with some valuable work ex to fight for mba again.

I am Shabbeer and until recently (Feb 2013) was a PhD student in biology at Max Planck Institute (Germany). After getting frustrated with the inability of all the scientific research to actually benefit anyone, i have decided to do an MBA with which i can join a pharma giant not in a research capacity but for product management. There is so much good research out there but hardly ever matures enough to result in a drug or a modification of it !! I believe by doing an MBA i would get exposure to management skills required to bridge this ever-widening gap between basic research and beneficial products. In future i would hope to open up my own little venture which would tackle the same problem and i hope by that time with the experience gained in the pharma company would come in handy
I will appear for CAT-2013 and i have come to this website at the right time I scored 84 % in Class 10, and 12 and around 83 % in my B.Tech. I hope this website with all the helpful people and wonderful posts i would get a good score in CAT and go on to secure admission into an awesome PGDM program !!
What do you think guys, do i have a chance with my profile?
@shab86 Seems your why MBA answer is ready 😁 your board marks are decent but it still does depend on your performance in CAT. A good percentage in college should give you a leverage!
currently pursuing my final semester of electrical engineering from the College of Engineering Pune (COEP)
10th - 88% CBSE
12th - 78% (le doobi IIT ki preparation)
B.Tech - 6.5 CGPA (Pune university marking schemes ki jai)
I had missed giving CAT 2012 thanks to a trajic turn of events when the bus i was travelling in while on my way to bangalore from pune met with a very fatal accident (my exam centre was in bangalore. so i had to make this trip two days prior to the exam). spent my exam timeslot nursing a pair of broken ribs in the hospital.
Anyway, a new year brings a new set of hopes. back on my feet now, all hale and hearty, its time to take care of some unfinished business that i had set out for on the fateful night of 29th october 2012.
i have rejoined TIME just so that i stay in touch with my CAT preparation. All going smooth as of now.
Hope to make it into the hallowed portals of IIMC by April 2014.
@abhishek91 Actually i had to think quite hard and discuss this decision of mine with my family and close friends. It wasn't an easy decision to take since i left a PhD position to go for an MBA. And indeed i am looking for a small segment of companies out there.Btw, is 83% in undergrads a decent enough score to get a call from the IIM's or other heavyweights? (obviously making the assumption that i score well in CAT ) Thanks for all your inputs ...

hi if u r taking about top 6 old IIMs(ABCLIK) then apart from IIM A AND C AND L it would be tough for u to get a call from BIK....but if u score 99+ percentile then IIM A sure shot call.....but for IIMB ...they give lots of weightage for X and XII marks...where if u r from CBSE,ICSE or "any other easy to get marks "TYPE BOARD...then it would be tougher to get a call..as for IIMB--(cat-20 marks,X-15 marks,XII-10 marks and grad-15 marks.,work exp-5 marks)
for IIM C it would be easy to get a call with 99.65 percentile(as the cut off of IIM C)
forget to get calls from IIM I ,as there cat score dnt have any value...it purely based on your X ,XII and grad normalized score
and same case gors for IIM K.....u will be losing out K for your X and XII marks
and for IIM L it is quite psbl to get calls for engineers with 99.7 or 99.8 percentile I guess ...according to what eng ppl got in last 2 years...with same criteria....
for more details on criteria
u can go to this link...where u can find all the criteria .....

Ok some of the pointers I want to suggest:
1) Try to take GMAT along with CAT to broaden your chances. As you have a background of research I would suggest you to checking out other courses around the world apart from just MBA.
2) My personal opinion is "To form a startup, you don't require MBA, what you require is a passion and belief that this would materialize".
And Welcome to Pagalguy.com and for any help we are there to help you
