Why did you write all those MBA entrance exams if at the end of it all, you have a doubt if you wish to join or not?
its like getting ready to go to a beach, driving all the way there, and then thinking "Do i get near the shore or do i drive back and go bowling"

Infosys opts out of campus recruitment
http://www.business-standard.com/india/news/infosys-opts-outcampus-recruitment/351196
well, at present i'm undergoing training at infy mys. first i should tell u to not panic. training is undoubtedly hectic(was studying... switched to pg 4 a change...:p)... i really feel it's a race against time.
don't worry bout ur grad studies... surely u'll not be the only one. i've met quite a few so-called 'comp enggs'here. but pls utilise more than 2 months u r having. u'll realize the value of every hour if u come here... here what i've studied in 3.5 months is more than what i did in 4 yrs of college!! 😛 brush up c and rdbms... those will help u max. whether one had studied in grad or not doesn't matter much... MCA and IT grads r studying throughout night while some non-cs ppl r able to relax and yet fair well. everything will be taught from basics... but the speed is really fast. study materials, educators, infrastructure... everything is awesome. ultimately it all depends on whether u r able to grasp the concepts or not. it's impossible to clear the tests unless u hav the concepts right. if u flunk in a module, no time to ponder over it coz that'll most likely harm ur next module too. but remember, most ppl successfully complete! 1 more thing, IT and this trng is not all bout coding... there r many more things beyond that!
under present scenario, mba frm an avg b-school is not going to help u much i guess...:-P
hope this 'll help u somehow... ATB...:-P
thanks a lot bro..i didn't expected so well and quick reply..thanks..
Ok, some points to clarify your doubts.
--> Training is not hectic. the expectation set is very high, and you need 65 marks just to clear, but disciplined study would ensure that you sail through the training with ample time for other activities, Mysore campus is awesome, and training would not keep you away from enjoying it. But the minute you start messing with your training schedule and start spending more time away from studying, that's when the program becomes hectic, because you then start to struggle to keep up with whats happening, and finally start to spend the whole night studying. unfortunately most of the people including me, end up doing just that :)
--> why are you joining Infy? do you see any opportunity for you in the software industry? if you think you have a future in the IT industry, then i would certainly recommend joining infy, but if you are joining the company today, just to get out after a few years for an MBA, then i would suggest you do that right now. 90 percentile would get you into decent colleges which would most certainly offer value for your time and money. beyond a certain point, an MBA degree is all about the amount of effort you put in. so any good college would be a good bet considering your interest (you said u arent great at programming)
--> its a myth that Infy is doing well in the economic crisis. Infy, just like any other company is struggling. many people who are out of training are on bench without any project, some have been on bench for over 8 months. thats really a piss of for any new joinee. someone who undergoes 5-6 months of dedicated training and then spends 8 months checking mails and chatting with others is really sad. Infy is also thinking of extending the training period for new joinees from 5-6 months to about 10-12 months, so that they are utilized and occupied in some way instead of keeping them on bench. so the condition is grim. its just that Infy hasnt fired anybody which makes many think that they are doing well. infact, the last quarter result of Infy was greately helped by the depriciating rupee. that is the key reason why we recorded an improvement in our results from the earlier quarter.
its a valid point you have raised about joining infy or getting into a B-School. as you rightly mentioned, if you fail the training program, then you are neither in a b-school nor have a job. At a time like this, it is really disastrous. so i would suggest you ask yourself two questions
1) Will i put dedicated effort and work hard towards my training and ensure that i stay in the company no matter how tough the going gets in the next 6-10 months?
2) Will i be studying for CAT/XAT etc after a year or so, and then plan to join an MBA college by quitting Infy.
if you answer yes to both the questions, then you can consider joining Infy, but if you answer no, then i suggest you get into a b-school and save yourself all the trouble.
hope this helped. i would recommend all the people who have similar doubts to go through this post and then consider you choices before posting anything on this thread.

You say that i have given the best answer to the question, but you still ask me the same question again.
Choosing between Infy and a B-School needs to be a well informed and a thoughful judgement. There are many factors that you need to consider. As i said, if your aim is to get some experience and then get into a B-School, you might as well do that right now.
Even i got calls from 3 B-Schools before i joined Infy in 2006. XLRI, XIMB and GIM. i converted GIM but did not convert XLRI and XIMB. since my expectation was to get into either XLRI/XIMB, i rejected the GIM offer and joined Infy. 3 years later, i still havent got into a B-School, why? because i dont have the motivation to prepare the way i did 4 years back and my scores off late are only good enough for colleges for like GIM. now it doesnt make much sense getting into GIM again, after 3 years of work-ex at infy isnt it? so the idea is, to go after your dream. offcourse i am assuming here that you are really good as a manager and that is why you are considering an MBA. Because only then will chasing your dream ever become a reality. else it is like a dog chasing after a car. not knowing what to do, when the car actually stops.
never look at the average salary to judge a B-School. Infact, never look beyond what the college offers, in terms of your time spent there and in terms of your dedication being utilized to the maximum. At the end of the day, what you make out of a college degree is a result of what kind of effort you put in while at it. what all this means is, a super guy in a decent college will make much more out of his MBA that a decent chap in a super college. Just to get you in perspective, my friend graduated from IIMC last year and he earns 12 lakh per annum while another friend of mine who graduated from christ earns 15 lakh per annum. its a different story that the guy from christ was the highest placed dude from his batch and the guy from IIMC just had to perform average to get the 12 lakhs.
If you dont have much interest in petroleum, banking and insurance, why the hell did you apply to these colleges in the first place? moreover the sectors you have mentioned pretty much covers much of the domain that b-school graduates get into after they graduate. so you pretty much have told here, that you are uninterested in 45% of the domain that is considered as the creamy layer for a MBA guy to get placed in.
now you might be wondering, why didnt i give you my opinion. well, to be frank, that is for you to decide.

No, Infy doesn't provide project opportunities for final year BE and MTech students.
To apply for job at Infosys, please send a mail at [email protected], in case you don't have previous work experience. Do not forget to mention:-
1. DOB
2. Class X, XII, Graduation, PG marks.

Hi,
I am from the B.Sc background and have been part of Infosys family from last 1 and 1/2 yr.
Recently i have taken up a course named PGDIT (Post Graduation Diploma in Information Technology) from SCDL (Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning).
Before i join i had a word with my HR' s to know the benefits i may get in future after i complete this course successfully but they replied saying that since policies are tend to change with time we can' t give any kind of information on this topic.
Even though i know that it' s pretty much waste to know now but end my eaggerness i wanted to know whether do we have any one in this community or any one of your friends who have taken part in a similar kind of courses and which has added value to his/her carrier progess.
If friends any... then pls do reply.
Thanks In Advance,
Sham.
dude m a also 4m E&Tc; n a 2k8 passout. m joinin on 23rd march. well branch related ques are asked - i was asked bout vodafone hutch deal (dat was d latest in feb 2k7)), 2G,3G,4G n difference bet dem (altho i hadnt studied dese in detail until thn as these cm only in 6th sem i.e. jan 2k7-jun 2k7). so i wud suggest u 2 go thru electronics 4r u/ elektor regularly n a newspapr/ current affairs magazine shud also b followed. C/C++ theory basics n basic programs (prime number, palindrome, sorting etc.) shud b known. n lastly infy HR's always ask a puzzle (95% of the tyms). dey r mostly 4m shakuntala devi (not necessarily bt i guess dey hv crammed d entire buk). go thru it.
Infosys has no doubt put a freeze on recruitments but this will help you in all your interviews. m placed in accenture 2 n all dis helped a lot. besides all dese, prepare one subject thoroughly (i hd prepared microprocessors).
hey i also want to extend my DoJ which is Aug 10 coz of pending result. So i just wanna know in how many days do they reply wid new DoJ.
quantum Saysdude m also an extension candidate joinin on 23rd march. ma initial doj (dt of joinin) was 14th july'08. u c it has taken 9 extra months. i was waitin 4r accenture thn n got it deferred. in ur case i thnk u can join wid ur frens. d final degree is reqd 2 b shown only after 7-8 months. jus talk 2 seniors bout a possibl excuse. in fact one of 14th july joinees hd same prob n convinced HR's dat his details on marksheet wr incorrectly entered n dat he hd sent it bk 2 d university 4r correction(it was an affiliated colg). bt please take an informed decision. once ur joinin is delayed u can do nothng bt wait 4r the nxt date. its always after the completion of regular joinees since in our case 2 all engineers will b onboard b4 23rd march n ours wil b d last batch 4r engineers.

there is no official way to extend the joining date. you can contact the HR person at Mysore, but then the option to take you is all with them. the ideal thing is if they take you in, with the next batch. but sometimes the next batch that you could fit into, can be 4-6 months down the line.
at a time like this, when not many get calls from companies, i would suggest you do everything in your power to join in the date given by them. if it is a genuine reason, i am sure they will understand.
