Hi folks.....
I see loads of queries being answered arnd here with regards to IBM...
Just wanna add a few things to the above already mentioned......things like FLEXI timings ( I dont know 'y' peeps are making generic statements for IBM wide?Is it mentioned anywhere in the Blue book or BCG ?) Loads of ppl do manage to walk out of the reception without having to answer anyone....thats coz thatways IBM is cool....no ones gonna bug you unless u slip up some place! ( If that happens ... as it happened with one of my mates...trust me what all people think doesnt get noticed .. comes out as sumthing the management took note of )..........If at all u wanna call this Flexi timings ..... go right ahead.... enjoy!
In my experience........ like everywhere its the proj ur in.... what ur manager is like....related crap !
IBM has its benefits....but work's work guys( Its not like u tell them ur preparing for CAT and they will let u off early !)
If its a maintenance proj (shifts). then ur gonna be slogging ur backside......after offcial work hrs....like anywhere in the IT industry
I would request you all to abstain from giving incorrect( or so to say.. partly correct!), its not like we are enticing ppl to join IBM over TCS....
Regards
Better4worse
(PS : If at all u folks wanna join a company to prepare for CAT alongside......join infy.(pune)........lotta of my mates are having crazy time out there.....lots of time......ironically .....none of them has CAT on their.minds:wow:)
Hi Folks,
Those who are working in IBM could you plz tell me wen will the IBm hyderabad office be ready and will AMS dept be a part of the Hyderabad, GDC.
After reading the appends below i have decided tat my friend who was confused abt WIPRO Tech and IBM would join IBM. But wat r the chances that she will get Hyderabad center and also please put some more light on the salary growth, she is joinin wid a salary of 2.75lakhs.
Also, does IBM provide 6th semester projects to MCA students? and if yes does it give stipend?
Thanks in advance,

atul,
hey even m a fresher from bangalore.I got selected in IBM on Jan 15th. We received an official confirmation by them through email. They had sent to us the letter of intent which we needed to sign so that they send us offer letters. We haven received offer letter after that though.By the way do u know any seniors of ur college. I mean last year when was the joining date given to dem n stuff like training, location etc..
Working in IBM is great fun. I dont know about other locations but in Kolkata, work environment is great. Initial Salary as a fresher will be same as TCS CTS but increment will be relatively less. Otherwise, apart from the salary thing, IBM is great. Its like an ocean. We never felt the heat of recession working in IBM.
Hello everyone, I am a monster, placed in IBM from NIT Bhopal in dec, 2010. I am from Mechanical engg. background. I want to know what kind of work will I be put in as I am from mechanical background and which languages such as C C++ Java do I need to learn before joining IBM and at which place will I be posted?
worked in GBS for around 3 yrs and then quit.
GBS is a double edged sword. If u like to work and feeds n the frenzy f taking a new challenge ( i'm like that) then u shouldn't join as u wd rarely get a chance with the projects tht u will get in IBM.For 2 yrs i worked in a project tht was grt and fed my interests.
But after that i was assigned to a series of projects that bored me to hell as mid & higher management at my center is a benchmark f mediocrasy. ( Trust me n this , nt exaggerating, Gurgaon center especially is known for lackluster projects). Plus they pay u like peanuts, i got 1+ ratings ( nly top 1% employs get thta , still the hikes were 1 & 1.2 % respectively). They dn't pay well to Indians, plus onsite is too difficult to get in India.
In case u don't want to learn new things and interested in only preparing fr CAT then IBM & U wd be a perfect match as the policies are tailor made fr this ( work from home, flexible timings except for the night shifts, no intrest from managers etc).
So the choice is urs & would depend n ur future aspirations

Sir,
I am from mechanical engg. background, placed in IBM only through campus placement.Do I need to learn C C++ or Java before joining IBM? Which place should I prefer for joining?I was thinking of opting for Delhi, noida or gurgaon as I have a house in delhi too..other centres are inconvenient for me..

yaar no need to learn languages if u dnt know the technology in which their HR wd place u.
IBM have no technology mapping strategy fr fresher hirings, its unacceptable frm a bluechip like IBM bt thts the truth. They randomly allocate u technologies.
I was fortunate to get SAP BASIS, which didn't req any prior IT r comp knowledge accept the crude basics tht all engineers know. ( I didn't even knew a,b wht to talk f C & C++). aLL f my batchmates in IBM wer non IT engineers, sm chemical, mechanical, paper even environment i was myself from electronics & comm.
If u want to concentrate n CAT prep take GGn r Noida center. There r strong chances tht u wnt have strong learnings technically bt wd get ample to prepare fr CAT.
if u wanna have real learning go to Kolkata location, Its the best location fr learning & management is very gd thr. GGn and Noida r filled with management tht will make u feel like ur wrkng in a sarkari company ( even they r more professional)

Hi puys,
I got the joining date at IBM Global Services in June. Only problem is I screwed one of my final sem papers and kinda worried about it. What is IBM's policy regarding backpapers? Do they ask you to leave if you get a backapaper in the 8th sem?
I've also got an offer from Accenture. Some of my friends were saying that accenture gives people a chance to clear their backpapers? Is this a safer option?
Hi !
I have been placed in IBM GS as well as TCS and have taken my pick - IBM it is.
Becoz of its sheer brand name and the info (i could find it on this thread too) -flexi timings, better name compared to TCS and getting time for CAT preps..as m joinin in NCR.
But an apprehension still holds my thoughts.
1.How are the projects there and I heard there is more exposure and onsite opportunities in TCS compared to IBM.What kind of projects can i get there in IBM?
2.Being from a non CS background(Electronics) would i get ample opprtunities to prove myself.M good in acads though i dnno languages except C and have heard they dont provide a good training like TCS does.
3.Whats the scene of making d freshers sit (i.e- on bench) for a number of months.. or even firing them in IBM. I heard they sacked around 700 freshers last year for no good reason. Is d condition still the same .
Please help as I have my joinings very soon of both the companies (In July itself).
