IMT Ghaziabad 2013-2015 Admission Notification & Related Discussion

@shivamus See, it is a limiting facotr and not all companies consider 10 or 12th. Few just want good grad or MBA scores, while others may want to look at all the scores. For some companies it maybe 50% or 65% or something else. So, in all there are so many options. Dont loko at it the other way.

I won't say "most companies".

I knew 55% in 12th will come back to haunt me.
Thanx though for clarifying about this! Also, are you a MBA student? What is ALComm? I get its some kind of committee, but which one?

@shivamus I am not an MBA student yet. Awaiting a few converts this season. I am working now, with a decent exposure to the recruitment process, so have a fair idea how companies recruit and what instructions are given to the panelist.

No idea about ALComm buddy!.

Sorry, to jump in. In practice, 60% score is what the companies look at usually. For bigger/better companies it shoots up to 75%. Nothing to be scared now, get a convert and do your best. Grad scores are not the only elimination factors in play.
True. As a senior passout, I wouldn't want to mince my words further - 60% is a minimum cut-off in a lot of cases - before MBA, Within MBA and After MBA too. Its a tough nut to crack. But never lose hope.

@DEVILISHANGEL Dude, do companies ask for 60% in 12th too? I have 80 in 10th and 72 in Grad. Will that hamper my chances for summer internships and final placements?@bhaduriarchit
what do you mean 12th too? Isn't that part of your Acad scores? They want a minimum of 60+ throughout career in most cases.

@DEVILISHANGEL Yes...dt is so true...i vil turn d table in my favour def...thnx..Jst a smal Q...i knw it is nt d rite tym..bt vit below scores-10th - 83%12th - 71%grad - 71%And a good MBA acads (after two yrs )Vil i b eligible in top notch companies dt visits fr finance or vil i b filtered in most/some?Actually i want to b sure where nd how i hav to work during my mba daes?Thnx in advance
well yeah, you should be. But do remember an MBA placement is not after 2 years but after 3-6 months for summer and after 18 months for PPOs and after 21 Months for Final Placements so what all can you be judged on? Exactly...Past+Till Latest Present...this is the glitch.

There would be some who would require 80+ throughout career + CFA + DU B.Com/Math/Stat degree from Stephen's/SRCC/LSR or a Degree from Older IITs and Older NITs for some very specific Finance roles - The case is same across all the top 15 great big b-schools so there is no respite there. But usually few companies have 80% as (internal) criteria. In most top notch companies, you can sit but ofcourse people with better profile have a better shot at converting.
@DEVILISHANGEL Thnx a lot bro...it really helpd...:)
thnk u
@DEVILISHANGEL So that means if i have 55% in class 12th, that screws me for life? Most companies will not consider me for recruitment/summer internships? Do they have a normalization scheme for different boards?

very tough. do you think companies have the WILL (rather than time) to do all that? :)
Even B-Schools who say they normalise blatantly lie because they can't - They only normalise for the people who apply to that b-school at best - in most cases, its just for namesake.

It will be tough to get into really good companies about 50% of the time realistically speaking - this is only for the times when companies have clear cut either said or unsaid policy of not hiring anyone having less than 60 throughout career and then there is also the personal bias of people who hire and ofcourse the fact that they are all trying to play safe :)

See why do you think most companies come to Older IIMs, SPJain, IMT, MDI and the others top 15 b-schools? Because most of them want to lay safe - and people who play safe don't want to take chances. So it will be an uphill task.

looking at the scores of u people, it seems that i don't stand any chance.
@DEVILISHANGEL: so these companies that ask for 60%, is it their eligibility criteria for appearing in the interviews or is it just a factor in evaluating the candidates during placement? (because even the IIMs call ppl with 50% for their interviews but what point is it if they dont get placed later!)
also, how many levels of CFA do ppl usually manage to clear before completing MBA?
what i've realised is that b schools are wary of taking in candidates with low grad scores because in the event that they dont get placed later, the college's reputation gets compromised...only hope is to somehow do something exceptional at a job for 2 years and then try again...and thanx a lot for the help, man...

please check how many people with any blip as 50% are there in any top 15 b-schools including IIMs. My guess is less that 0.05% and even that is a very highly optimistic figure. To be honest I dont think in 2013 anyone with less than 60 will get admissions in the top 15 colleges unless ofcourse they did so very well that the interview committee thought these guys can make a very huge difference.

the initial cut-off is never the final cut-off. It is just a qualifying criteria - Necessary But Not Sufficient Criteria t be precise.

pretty much all your assumptions are spot on but it is not just about companies - it is also that professors think that students with better past record would probably do increasingly better in the future.

Exceptional Job may also not be enough - a exec-mba though could be...

well there are people who have no idea what CFA is when they come to b-school and there are also people who have finished all 3 CFA levels btw they have come to b-school. In a good b-school, a finance batch will atleast have 30-40 % CFA/FRM exam takers in various stages of the certification.

well, I wouldn't say that. That is saying the glass is always half empty.

But going by the trends at B-School admissions in the top 15 B-Schools, dont you see that yourself? Why do you think B-Schools are suddenly filtering people on past acads? Demand Pressure.

It can always be done but it will be tougher for a guy with that record.
@DEVILISHANGEL Seeing the post it seems for someone like me who has 84.17 in 10th 77.6 in 12th and 52.34 in BE from Pune university, there is almost less than 1 percent chance to get to a top 20 B school though I have 2 yrs of good work ex in ERP and completed CFA level 1

No you have higher chances of conversion because of your 10th score is fine and 12th score is okish.

and 2 years of work-ex in ERP will play in your favour because this means you can be directly shipped into a role to a company given your erp experience. and then you have completed a CFA level 1.

All of this is a cumulative thing - though CFA is a cherry on top - without the basics right, just a CFA by itself wont do you any good in India.

@DEVILISHANGEL I was just reading the above discussion. Though I have a above 80 in both 10th and 12th. I have a 58 in graduation from Delhi University (though I topped the college in the 2nd year). Pursuing literature doesn't allow much scope for scoring well. But despite this, many companies will overlook me because I have
It is possible unfortunately.

because there could be 300 applicants for a post in college - how will they filter people?
they will do a filter on excel and thats the problem.

though recruiters with very good HR policy might see that you are from Literature Background and may therefore cut you some slack or give you specific roles.

Also, your above 80 scores in 10th and 12th would help. Above 90 would have been wonderful though (ofcourse)
@DEVILISHANGEL I have 80 in 10th, 55.20 in 12th and 72 in grad.
I need to get into a good school only, else no MBA for me, what will be my chances for summer internships and later for placement?

keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best. If you get into one, then make sure you perform well in acads.
@dash001 : since u are from literature, u have that quality called 'diversity' that the b schools are striving so hard to achieve nowadays...and if u r a girl, it only adds to the diversity...so u can make it with a good interview...all u have to do, in my opinion, is to prepare for literature questions for the interviews...u answer them well and i think u can make it to the IIMs...

@DEVILISHANGEL : thanx a lot for the honest replies...

@kushalagg : this is probably not the right place to ask this, but how did u get into erp after engg? campus placement? and can u give me any advice on how to go about applying for a CFA? isnt it a distance learning program by the CFA institute, USA? i have 52% in engg from MIT, Pune...so our records are kinda same...u give me hope...thanx in advance...

when wil be the final list out for gaziabad?

@ygoel89 End of march.
