hey guys...... URGENT ADVISE REQUIRED....... i know everyone wud be busy with their new year plans....but guys some serious things need to be taken care off....... can anyone from IIFT or others who are writin this test give me their opinion on the following....
1 how many questions do we need to attempt....considering u get 20 odd wrong....if u ppl can tell me how many questions per section tht wud be gr8..
2 how much time shud v give to each section.....for me my strength is qant...eng is decent .....gk is bad...
3 and also bcos of the variable marking scheme it makes sense to give more time to math....
4 what are the cutoffs... are there any sectional cut offs....if yes wht were the last yrs cut offs overall and sectional.....
5 is it fine if we dont solve GK at all or solve very few questions in GK.... and compensate for the same in other sections.....
guys if anyone experienced enough can give me answers to the above questions i ll be very thankful to him/her.....as 4 days to go and CAT was not gr8.....hopin tht someone will reply today itself... thanks in advance...... take care and ATB.....
Hey Dude.... Herewith I m attaching the analysis of last yr's IIFT.Hope that'll solve most of ur queries....
hey dude thanks a lot...... it did answer my queries....but dude it didnt tell me whether can i leave GK section without attempting or attempting a few questions and can i compensate in other sections by attempting more there...... ......... : : :
does nebody has an idea as to how far guessing in iift paper esp. in gk will do...and is it advisable to attempt less ques.in gk and instead maximise on qa and di/lr

Nobody is sure abt these sectional things....everybody adopts the rule"Why take a chance"....so it's better to ve some attempts in GK section as well... just browse thru issues of CSR 4 the last 5/6 mnths....& it'll help a lot I believe....(at least score reasonably in GK)
The _ve marking is most probably -20 %. I mean for a one mark question it will be 0.2 I appeared in IIFT 2 years back and that time there was no -ve marking at all.
hi guys! there is reservation for SCST students in IIFT. CAn som1 tell me the cutoff/rankings or any thing related to reserved candidates for iift exam this year? plzzzzz Ive scored 76.47%ille in CAT and 99.5%ille in MAT. comments plzzzz!!!!
IIFT website and prospectus say that if a student doesn't received his admit card then he should see his exam centre on the website and reach there with Identity proof. However I have not been able to find the web page which gives the necessary details on iift site.
Can you please help me by providing pointers to the proper link at iift site.
intangible, no need to opne new threads. Juz goto www.iift.edu and check whether there is any update. Or else juz call up and get ur details. No big deal hopefully.

Thanks a lot to everyone who's helped.
I got these details by mail from Dr L D Mago (Admissions Officer at IIFT) and I must say that IIFT ppl are really very helpful and their reaction time is amazing. 😁
hello junta on growing the incoming mails in my mail account and requests for previous years pattern i have found the summary on IMS site
Section Area No. of questions Marks per question Section 1 Quantitative Ability 48 3/4 Section 2 Reasoning and Data Interpretation 48 1/2 Section 3 RC & Verbal Ability 50 2/5 Section 4 General Knowledge 50 2/5
Note: The order of the sections were different for different sets of paper.
Section 1: Quantitative Ability
There were total 48 questions. This section was exclusively devoted to Problem Solving. This year saw the addition of questions from topics like functions and trigonometry as well. Apart from these topics there were question from the usual areas of Algebra, Arithmetic, Geometry and Logic Ideally one could attempt 38 - 40 questions in 35 minutes.
Section 2: Reasoning and Data Interpretation
There were total 48 questions. This section comprised questions from Data Interpretation, Data Sufficiency, Logical Reasoning, Critical Reasoning, Sequences and Series. While the DI questions were of average level of difficulty the number of questions in the data set were too few 2 -3. Leading to loss of valuable time. Ideally one could attempt 33 - 35 questions in 35 minutes.
Section 3: RC & Verbal Ability
This section comprised questions from English Usage, Short Reading Comprehension Passage of about 50 words, Passage and Double Fill In the Blanks, Missing Phrase, Jumbled Paragraphs, Analogy, Synonym (Meaning given corresponding word to be identified) and identify the misspelled words. Ideally one could attempt 38 - 40 questions in 35 minutes
Section 4: General Knowledge
The questions were current in nature, based on Current Business, Social, Political, Sports. Ideally one could attempt 35 questions in 15 minutes
Overall Score
A good score in this test for admission to IIFT will be 62+
the only thing to mention here is that 62+ is the score at which you will be selceted even if you screw up ur PI ( the way I did)
cheers SUMIT
hi..what exactly does that mean..ki 62 mein u'll get selected even if u screw up PI..sorry didn't get that..? :
i would like to share someviews abt iift test pattern.
it is divided into 4 sections with different quantitative weightages unlike any other mba entrance exam. it suggests that there are no sectional cut offs. i had also spoken to many career launcher and ims faculties and they to believe that there is no sectional cut off. but every student should attempt all the sections.
likely pattern
maths - 48 questions weightage 0.75 english - 48 questions weightage 0.40 gk - 50 questions weightage 0.40 di & ar - 50 questions weightage 0.50
the difficulty level is minimal as compared to cat. for gk its more of general awareness and static gk. go through business and political happenings of the last 6 mths.
yaa its good to share such info on iift. will also be good if some more info is available abt iift test. Especially gk. Wat can we expect?? is this static gk, business and political awareness enuf??
