What is Basel Norms ?πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ΌπŸ‘ΌπŸ‘ΌπŸ‘Ό

Bureau of International Settlement (BIS) headquarters at Basel, Switzerland has appointed a committee to supervise and to set some standards for International Banks. This committee is known as Basel Committee on Bank Supervision (BCBS). The rules and regulations for Banks issued by this committee were called Basel Norms / Accords. There are three Basel Norms, namely Basel I, II and III.

Basel I Accord : This was issued in 1988. This accord focused on the capital adequacy of financial institutions. Banks that operate internationally are required to have a risk weight of 8% or less. India adopted Basel I Norms in the year 1999.

Basel II Acord : This is the second of the Basel Accords, published in the year 2004. This consists of the recommendations on Banking Laws and Regulations issued by BCBS.

Basel III Accord : Basel III guidelines were released in the year 2010. This is to enhance the banking regulatory framework. It builds on the Basel I and Basel II documents and seeks to improve the banking sector's ability to deal with financial and economic stress, improve risk management and strengthen the banks' transparency.

Financial inclusion or inclusive financing is the delivery of financial services at affordable costs to sections of disadvantaged and low-income segments of society, in contrast to financial exclusion where those services are not available or affordable. An estimated 2.5 billion working-age adults globally have no access to the types of formal financial services delivered by regulated financial institutions. For example in Sub-Saharan Africa only 24% of adults have a bank account even though Africa's formal financial sector has grown in recent years.[1] It is argued that as banking services are in the nature of public good; the availability of banking and payment services to the entire population without discrimination is the prime objective of financial inclusion public policy.

purpose

1access at a reasonable cost for all households to a full range of financial services, including savings or deposit services,

payment and transfer services,

credit and insurance;

sound and safe institutions governed by clear regulation and industry performance standards;

financial and institutional sustainability, to ensure continuity and certainty of investment; and

competition to ensure choice and affordability for clients.

Then questions about banking:-
When were banks nationalized? Answered wrong.
How many were nationalized? Answered right.
Why were they nationalized? Didn't know. Said sorry.

It was a good experience. Ended on a lighter note.

What is MICR : stands for Magnetic Ink Character Recognition. MICR Code is a numeric code which uniquely identifies a bank branch participating in the ECS Credit scheme. MICR code consists of 9 digits e.g 400229128 i. First 3 digits represent the city (400) ii. Next 3 digits represent the bank (229) iii. Last 3 digits represent the branch (128) The MICR Code allotted to a bank branch is printed on the MICR band of cheque leaves issued by bank branches.πŸ‘ΌπŸ‘ΌπŸ‘Ό

Panel:9

Documents verified by- 9 15 am

I was the first one to get it done as the guy on my side was having issues as he was this year's passout.

I had a good conversation with the guy checking my documents who asked me why I had quit my higher paying job for this one. I told him I'd quit two years ago because of bad work-life balance, and he said that PO's also have to work a lot these days and he himself put around 12-13 hours each day. After verifying all my docs; this really took a lot of time as he was checking each and every document; he pointed out to me a mistake in my name for the second sem marksheet but did not make a hue and cry about it. Also, he gave me advice on how to behave in the interview and what were the probable questions in the interview. He told me to play it cool and behave as if it was only a conversation and said that with my work-ex I really had a good chance.

After this, I was raring to go!

I had to wait outside the interview room for around ten minutes as the panel had not assembled and my documents had not been delivered. In that time I chatted a bit with the coordinator about how the panel was and whether they would conduct the interview in Hindi and English; he said both. After that I was called in by the panel which had 4 members who all were male.

1. I was asked to introduce myself by the first member which I did, and then he asked me questions about Delhi and the changes that it had seen over the last 13 years. After that, he asked me what would I do if I was in charge of Delhi just like Kejriwal is right now! Then he asked me about my college, where it was and the famous personality it is named after. After that, he asked about my father and what he did and he stopped after that.

2. The second one asked me about my work exp, what I did in my job, and why I had quit it. He again said that Bank PO job was also tough. Then he asked me about other papers I had given so I told him about RBI Grade B and NICL. He asked me whether I would choose Grade B or PO, and I was able to justify my reply. He asked me about my degree. Then he asked me the subjects I had in my college degree. He stopped after that.

3. The third one asked me in detail about and the projects I worked on. Then he asked me about MOA and AOA (Memorandum of Association and Article of Association) and the difference between them; I was somewhat able to answer this question. After that he asked me about contracts and which people were not allowed to enter into them; I knew this.

4. This was the worst part of the interview for me. He first asked me whether I had accounts as a subject and I told him I did. He asked what is DSCR(Debt Service Coverage Ratio); I could not remember it. Then he asked me what is positioning in marketing and especially for banks? I was able to somewhat answer this. Then he asked me what is breakeven point and what is the formula? I was somehow able to answer this but he was not very happy with this.

After that I was allowed to leave, I was hoping they would offer me the toffees on the table but they did not p
All in all an excellent experience with a very cordial panel which took around 10-15 mins.

My Interview Experience

Interview Centre: Bank of India, Sec-62, Noida - 201005

Time: 1 Pm Panel: 2

Document verification didn't take much time... around 10-12 mins....(I didn't have my degree, they said that it is very important... I am a 2009 pass out but still haven't collected it.....stupidest thing I have ever done.... They made me sign an undertaking.....)

While documents were being verified, someone came and told them that lunch is gonna be at 1:15, so send students accordingly.... We were asked to come at 2Pm and go to first floor...

At 1:45, We went upstairs in the waiting room, waited for 1-1.5 hours, then my name was called....

Gentleman sitting outside the room asked me to wait and take a seat... He took my mini interview right outside...What have you done....Job karte ho?...Kitna score hai?... When I told him I got 89, he looked impressedπŸ˜ƒ. He then stopped asking me and shifted his focus on the other girl.....

I then saw someone carrying a stack of papers and recognized mine on the top...The person sitting outside asked him to take them inside.....I was called after 3-4 mins..

4 members in the all male panel. Out of them, 2 were Sikh Gentlemen...
From my left, M1 didn't say anything... he was just observing me throughout...M2 asked the most and he was like the voice of that panel...M3 also asked some questions...M4 asked just one question...

Wished them Good Afternoon... M2 and other replied....
M2: So you are Kusum Jethwani?
Me: Yes Sir..

Tell me about your schooling?
Where do you live? What have you done in Graduation?
Marks in 10th and 12th, graduation?
When did you pass and what were you doing afterwards....

He asked me why I didn't mention my work experience when applying... Told them that since we were shifting, I was not sure about the experience papers.... He laughed and said why now?
I said I have them now... He asked for them and I presented the same....

Asked about the salary.....

M2 and M3 took a close look at my documents....

M2 asked if I have written anything recently.... I replied in negative. Told them that I last wrote about my college fest for the college magazine....embarrasedembarrased

Then he asked about 2-3 journalists that I liked?

Took the name of Ravish Kumar and Arnab Goswami....

M2 suddenly became more animated... He was surprised at this... said why do you like him... He shouts so much...

Told him that I admit he does, but he is right...he is just a bit aggressive....

At this he turned towards M1 and said Today's generation like aggression...and they shared a laugh ..

He said so you like aggression, even when there is no substance....

I told him that before initiating any debate, he gives a background, that shows he is well informed and does his research before grilling... He nodded.. and then passed the proverbial baton to M3πŸ˜ƒ

M3 asked if I read anything about banking?

I said just the basics....

I told him about Mutual Funds
He asked what is the %age of Mutual funds in the Financial products?

I told him that I don't know the exact %age but I am aware that it is very less....

He asked me reasons?

Told him about lack of awareness....

He asked for any other reason...

Told him that it is mainly lack of awareness and also, those who are aware, they tend to invest more in individual stocks than mutual funds...

Then he asked me about the major problem being faced by the banks?

Told him its NPA..Debt restructuring....

Asked me a few companies which opted for debt restructuring

I replied, Spicejet... he said are you sure?... I corrected myself, and said Kingfisher airlines, he said that's correct...I couldn't recall any other company at that point of time...😠😠

He then asked about my score? He looked impressed too....

M4 then asked me about Bank rate.... Which I couldn't reply... Guess I got scared in the end...

He the looked at M1... He said he doesn't want to ask anything....

M2 then said that we are done and all the best.....

When I turned back and was closer to the door, I heard them saying, that she has good score.....

It didn't go as I planned....Sorry about the long post.... I have a Journalism background so they asked me about Journalists.....

All the best to everyone... who have given the interview and those who have to face the firing squad....πŸ˜ƒ.. Your views are welcome....
