- E. Dickinson, which were written over a period beginning a few years before Susans marriage to Emilys brother and ending shortly before Emilys death in 1886, outnumber
I would like to add these
A participle is often used to express purpose (or a cause ). It is illogical to say Emily Dickinson wrote her letters to A to outnumber --- those written to B. So I think option with outnumbering is not correct.
Anyway arch, ( XXXX...outnumber XXX....outnumbering )
I too think 4X is better than 3X π

I think A is the best option even though passive because the rest of the sentence demands that......hope this helps
I feel A is correct since its talks of a phenomenon which is continuous in nature. So option A with "has been" is more appropriate than option B. Rest all options donot make sense.

hey, don't u think if has to be coninuous it should be "has been shifting"..
moreover, in such sentences time is usually indicated using prepositions like from, for or since.....i agree it may nt be the case always
i feel since the sentence is describing a phenomenon there's no use of making it continuous...it is a simple truth or a simple defn...hence, present perfect is jus very puhfect...i ll go for option B
i also think answer B using simple past is better then past perfect A.
Can you post the OA ?

Here the term is " red shift" -- shift means from some position to the other position so present perfect seems good (gives a connection from past to present). " extent to" is the idiom. So I think A is the answer
ashishjha100 SaysI think A is the best option even though passive because the rest of the sentence demands that......hope this helps
The answer is A..
But what I doubt is that why should it be "has been" instead of "has"...

Hi...
I think I have come across this question before....
The sentence should be precise and simple.
(E)extent of the shift of light from a distant galaxy is the best one..

"Has been" shifted is more appropriate and in line with the sentence rather than the alone "has" is .....
The answer is A..
But what I doubt is that why should it be "has been" instead of "has"...
Guys please help.........
I think A is correct. We need "has been" instead of "has" as it needs to connect with 'by' in latter part of statement. 'has been shifted..by' is correct and not 'has shifted..by' in this context.
Please confirm if A is the answer.
Could any one provide explanation to the questions below?
1:In the United States, of the people who moved from one state to another when they retired, the percentage who retired to Florida has decreased by three percentage points over the past ten years. - The total number of people who retired and moved to another state for their retirement has increased significantly over the past ten years.

3:The spacing of the four holes on a fragment of a bone flute excavated at a Neanderthal campsite is just what is required to play the third through sixth notes of the diatonic scalethe seven-note musical scale used in much of Western music since the Renaissance. Musicologists therefore hypothesize that the diatonic musical scale was developed and used thousands of years before it was adopted by Western musicians.
Which of the following, if true, most strongly supports the hypothesis?
- Bone flutes were probably the only musical instrument made by Neanderthals.
- No musical instrument that is known to have used a diatomic scale is of an earlier date than the flute found at the Neanderthal campsite.
- The flute was made from a cave-bear bone and the campsite at which the flute fragment was excavated was in a cave that also contained skeletal remains of cave bears.
- Flutes are the simplest wind instrument that can be constructed to allow playing a diatonic scale.
- The cave-bear leg bone used to make the Neanderthal flute would have been long enough to make a flute capable of playing a complete diatonic scale.

In D, 'While he rode' seems wrong. while needs a progressive verb. So my answer is C.
