I think "Up Until Recently" is different from "Until Recently". Although it seems like the word "up" doesn't change the meaning, it does and it's very subtle.
The phrase "up until recently" puts more emphasis on the time span.. However, "until recently" doesn't give that kind of an extra focus.
For Example:-
Up until now, he has never spoken a word. Until now, he has never spoken a word.
I think "up" puts more focus on "now".
1) what is up until recently? I can remove up without changing the meaning of the sentence so up should be redundant (thats what I think 😃 ). Until recently means thats no longer the case so the sentence should use had sheltered right why the present have? this is why I didn't select D. 2) the earlier airbags inflates with a burst of smoke. If we say inflated to make then the purpose of airbags was to terrify passengers right? This is illogical. So I chose inflated and made (make is awkward)
Can someone plz help me with the reasoning for these questions?!.. Thanks a ton!

1) & 2) the 'several Germanic languages' and the 'large number of communities ' are referred here and so we need a plural in both cases.
3) i am not sure about this but i guess 'they' in D clearly referred to BOTH 'ballet dancers and gymnasts' while we cant exactly say the same about E. Here in E, 'they' could be either the group of dancers, or the group of gymnasts, or both. There is scope for ambiguity.
4)In C, in the commercial space part, parallelism is missing
5) In C, the part of sentence after the comma refers to licorice plant whereas it should be referring to the substance in licorice plant.

Guys pl xplain the answer...
I think the clause 'so that they could learn to fall without being hurt' would be unambiguous only when it has falling before the comma. In this case, the focus would be on 'practice falling' a sit should be. Please let me know if i am wrong.

4. A private house in New York City is a building owned by an individual or individuals having less than eight units and no commercial space.
(C) a building with fewer than eight units, no commercial space, and is owned by an individual or individuals
Here you can see the underlined part as a defintion of Private house. So, if we can break up the sentence into several sentences it would be as follows.
1) A private house in New York City is a building with fewer than eight units. 2) A private house in New York City no commercial space. 3) A private house in New York City is owned by an individual or individuals.
As you see the second sentence does not make sense.
In Choice E, the same part reads as A private house in New York City has no commercial space.

Hi Anish,
Answer to this shud be (C)....
Though there is nothing strikingly wrong in the first option, the use of "have" instead of "share" is, i think, more accurate. when these two tribes have nothing in common, how can they "share" that "nothing" ..
Note: I have already seen this question somewhere and got it wrong that time:huh:
Due to the continual rain, a smaller number of spectators witnessed the game than had been expected.
A)Due to the continual rain, a smaller number B)Due to the continuous rain, a smaller number C)Due to the continual rain, a lesser number D)Because of the rain that kept falling now and then, a smaller number E)Because of the continual rain, a smaller number
The OA is (E).. I was more inclined towards (B); Rain can never be continual right? It is always continuous. Plz correct me if i'm wrong!

Arch,
we use "continual" to show that the particular event is continued without breaks, and "continuous" can be used for the event which happens at regular intervals. in this context, authors suggests that rain didn't stop at any point of time and hence a smaller number of spectators came.

Hiiiii!! I also believe the answer should be C.. "because many residents of the Southeast do not share the same ethnic heritage as Northeasterners do" As "do" is not there..Share has to be replaced by have But is it not right to use ... " I dont share the same feelings as you do"??? Puys !!! Please comment..

thanx everyone for prompt replies. yes, answer is (C).
I have no issues regarding (C) except that I think "do not have same heritage as northeasteners" should be followed by "have"...am i wrong?
Is 'have same heritage as northeasteners' fine?
So I marked (B) which seemed fit.
(B) because many residents of the Southeast do not share the same ethnic heritage with (C) because many residents of the Southeast do not have the same ethnic heritage as

Guys pl xplain....
Answer should be E... "of" should come before type...because we cant say only.."is a type" So we come to C and E.. Use of "that" is redundant here.." One "serves that purpose.... So E.. What do you say?
