we use "continual" to show that the particular event is continued without breaks, and "continuous" can be used for the event which happens at regular intervals. in this context, authors suggests that rain didn't stop at any point of time and hence a smaller number of spectators came.
i hope it clarifies ur doubt...
Hi Montaques
I beg to differ here!! here, A, B & C all are wrong because of "due to". "because" is a better word here. "due to" means attributable. there's a subtle diff b/w the two words.
also as per word web: 'continual' (meaning seemingly uninterrupted) is often used interchangeably with 'continuous' (meaning without interruption)

Hi,
But what is the difference in using 'Because of..' and 'Due to...'?
Answer should be E... "of" should come before type...because we cant say only.."is a type" So we come to C and E.. Use of "that" is redundant here.." One "serves that purpose.... So E.. What do you say?

Anish,
could you plz elaborate on '"due to" means attributable'?
thanx everyone for prompt replies. yes, answer is (C).
I have no issues regarding (C) except that I think "do not have same heritage as northeasteners" should be followed by "have"...am i wrong?
Is 'have same heritage as northeasteners' fine?
So I marked (B) which seemed fit.
(B) because many residents of the Southeast do not share the same ethnic heritage with (C) because many residents of the Southeast do not have the same ethnic heritage as
Dont u think if we use "have same heritage as northeasteners have" sounds clumsy..because of repetition..??

My apologies for misguiding u guys
Actually, "continuous" means "unbroken" i.e occurs with no breaks, and "continually" is something that occurs repeatedly over a period of time.

sometimes u hv to look at the expression of the sentence also apart from ( (obviously)looking at the grammatical errors
C is a bit cluttered and doesnt clearly state the purpose of the sentence > D straight away makes clear what the subject of the sentence is and is therefore more direct than C..hope this helps

Isnt the answer C coz of the parallelism it follows
1.In three centuriesfrom 1050 to 1350several million tons of stone were quarried in France for the building of eighty cathedrals, five hundred large churches, and some tens of thousands of parish churches. (A) for the building of eighty cathedrals, five hundred large churches, and some (B) in order that they might build eighty cathedrals, five hundred large churches, and some (C) so as they might build eighty cathedrals, five hundred large churches, and some (D) so that there could be built eighty cathedrals, five hundred large churches, and (E) such that they could build eighty cathedrals, five hundred large churches, and
Errors are evident in B(they might...), C(they might...), D(there could..) and E(there could..).. That leaves us with Option A. :)
2.Unlike computer skills or other technical skills, there is a disinclination on the part of many people to recognize the degree to which their analytical skills are weak. (A) Unlike computer skills or other technical skills, there is a disinclination on the part of many people to recognize the degree to which their analytical skills are weak. (E) Many people have a disinclination to recognize the weakness of their analytical skills while willing to admit their lack of computer skills or other technical skills. Whats wrong with C
A and B are wrong due to incorrect comparison... Unlike computer skills...., there is.. ('there is' should be replaced with 'analytical skills'... to maintain the comparison... C is incorrect because in the expression 'to recognize that they are weak' the usage of 'they' is ambiguous... It may point to skills or people... E is too wordy with too many subordinate clauses... Thus D

Ans is D coz u need to hv a parallel structure is ( verb ) a goal of adults ..so answe shud hv a verb to parallel is ( was ) n adults ( earlier generations )...hope its clear nw

D is incorrect because 'as have earlier generation' lacks the subject. In a subordinate clause there should either a direct subject or an implied one. Only option E fits the bill - the subject in that case being the pronoun 'it' which refers to 'goal' in the parent clause...

Hiiiii!! I also believe the answer should be C.. "because many residents of the Southeast do not share the same ethnic heritage as Northeasterners do" As "do" is not there..Share has to be replaced by have But is it not right to use ... " I dont share the same feelings as you do"??? Puys !!! Please comment..
In my humble opinion, the answer is B. Option C is erroneous as it makes an incorrect comparison - the ethnic origin has been compared with Northeasterns... For option C to be correct, the sentence should have read something like... as that of the Northeasterners..

sorry i meant E only ..it was a typo ...u can make that out from my explanation . I had mentioned in my previous post that the verb " was" should be there to parallel the verb " is " used earlier in the sentence . Option D doesnt even have " was " .

Totally agree with u dude ...the comparison aint correct in C or for that matter in A . I know the 1000 SC doc says the answer should be C but i think those answers are not always correct . I know one question of OG which is also there in 1000SC and the answer given in OG differs from that of 1000SC.
Declining revenues resulting from a decrease in business travel are going to force many airline companies to increase price.
Kaplan says 'declining revenues' is a plural subject so plural verb 'are' required...
But i read in Manhattan SC that 'the subject of a sentence is an entire phrase or clause, these subjects are always singular and require singular verb forms'(page 32)
Manhattan gives an eg: Having good friends is a wonderful thing.
Pls anyone clarify whether subject is singular or plural.
