EducationAisle, people were saying few weeks back that GMAT would not contain questions around "idioms". Is it being enforced now or nothing is known about it? Idiom is one of my weakest area.

Answer is B?

C, D, E are out of question, due to incorrect idioms.

yes.. the answer is B. I know whether should be correct idiom usage. but i think whether should be used with OR ..coz it indicates a choice..in B its used in the form whether.....and
doesn't that seems incorrect?

I am referring to the first "and" where leave and broaden are parallel.
look at the structure of sentence if we use B as option...
its like its survival depends upon whether it can do this and that...

but we use whether...or I thought we cannot use whether without OR.
doubts here..please help!

success in gmat depends on whether you study well and keep calm during the test day (or not).

In the above sentence "and" is not linked with "whether" it is part of what comes between whether ...or. Same is case with your problem sentence.

Having whether without or is idiomatically correct.

Since is used to denote a duration of time.
Since its move to CBT in 2009, CAT has gone downhill.

Because is used to provide a reason.

D says Because he had not experienced any symptoms until adulthood, he had been affected by facial paralysis
It means that not experiencing any symptoms has caused the facial paralysis.

A is concise and clear.
