Majority is one of those words that can be either singular or plural. Common sense works pretty well in deciding which. If you mean the word to describe a collection of individuals, then the word should be treated as plural: The majority of e-mail users are upset about the increase in spam. If the word is used to describe a collective group, then consider it singular: A 90% majority is opposed to scheduling the next meeting at 6:00 A.M. If you are uncertain which you mean, then choose whatever form sounds best to you; it's not likely to bother many people.

Hi Shipra,
Ive tried to answer all your questions, but its entirely my viewpoint, so it might be worth cross-checking if youre unsure about any of them.
one of those people is you is the correct usage.
Firstly, it definitely sounds much better and you instantly know one of those people are you is wrong. Also, is refers to one rather than people. Had it been two, it would have been two of those people are jack and you or Many of those people are here. Hope that makes sense !
Ques 2. D
Almost always, a sentence has just one and disregard including lung cancer and emphysema, as it is a sub-part of a sentence. The sentence, as a whole, generally has just one and. Down to C,D & E.
D seems to be the best choice as by increasing justifies the cause for complication of the pregnancy.
Ques 4. B
Seems the best answer to be because As many as... is an idiom.
Ques 5. E
You always create a need for something. Down to B & E. Additionally, need for.. to.. is also almost always used. Eg. There is a need for us to conserve water.
Ques 6. D
Seems the best choice to me. The more.. the less likely is an idiom if Im not mistaken. Eg. The more you study, the less likely you will fail.
Ques 7. E
Plural so use have. C & D eliminated. A and B dont sound right at all. E is the best answer.
Ques. 1 E (70% sure)
Ques. 3 D (90% sure)
Cant really pinpoint acc. to rules of English grammar as to why I chose E and D for 1 and 3, but Im fairly certain I just relied on sound and common sense.
Please post the correct answers and if Im wrong on any question, could you please post the counter-explanation to that as well.
Hope it helped..!!
thanks guys!

A.A way to protect
B.In efforts to protect
C.Protecting

E.In order to protect
C- neptune could you please tell me how you reached C . I think it should be E.

A.Can complicate pregnancy, and increases the risk of low birth weight.
B.Can complicate pregnancy, and increases low birth weight risks
C.Can complicate pregnancy, increasing the risks of low birth weight
D.Can complicate pregnancy by increasing the risks of low birth weight.
E.Complicating pregnancy by increasing the risks of low birth weight.
D - my doubt here is, perhaps a little silly, but is the cause-effect relationship between complicated pregnancy and increased risks of low birth weight clearly indicated in the sentence?? For e.g. , isn't it possible that the relationship is quite the reverse, and that the risks of low birth weight arise due a complication pregnancy...in which case C would correctly depict the situation at hand.

C.Attraction, itself more attractive to tourists as are its ornate stained-glass windows.
D.Attraction, being more attractive to tourists than its ornate stained-glass windows.
E.Attraction as it more is attractive to tourists than are the churchs stained-glass windows.
B , I had marked A as well. But the explanation says that the underlined clause needs to be in the subordinate form to keep the attention of the sentence focused on "the floor", using the "and" conjunction makes the 2 parts equivalent....I think this a highly specific explanation and does not follow any generally applicable rule. I know I couldn't have thought of this logic on my own so please correct me if I am wrong...

C.That there be a production of masts and sails out of pine and flax from Russia.
D.That masts and sails are made out of pine and flax from Russia.
E.For pine and flax from Russia to be made into masts and sails.

However, between B & E, it says E so maintain the emphasis on the intent that "pine and flax should be made into masts and salts" which E does, while B emphasizes on the intent that "pine and flax should come from Russia" ...again very very specific to this sentence, I couldn't find any general logic /rule here.

A, "as a result" is supposed to modify the conservative spending of consumers, so E is eliminated. C has the wrong verb. D has the wrong tense. However, I don't see why A is chosen over B. I feel B is more succinct.
