Q1- What symbolizes the the possibility of freedom? The return of the Blacks or the African land? I feel the return of the Blacks symbolizes the possibility of freedom. I gess A says that the land of Africa symbolizes the possibility of freedom. Could you please clarify the difference between the use of which & that?
Q4- Is the use of "of" after ";" in A correct? As far as my knowledge goes, the part of the sentence after ";" should be kinda independent. Please explain this part
its african land tht symbolizes the possibility of freedom..read option A again.. ...advocated that the Blacks return to Africa, the land that (to him) symbolized the possibility....
and as regards Q.4, the sentence is correct...both the sentences are independent of each other...read the second sentence independently..it makes sense..'those' has been used only because the subject was introduced in the first half of the option..

hi all... another one which i can not explain ...(to myself π )
Unlike most severance packages, which require workers to stay until the last day scheduled to collect, workers at the automobile company are eligible for its severance package even if they find a new job before they are terminated.
A. the last day scheduled to collect, workers at the automobile company are eligible for its severance package. B. the last day they are scheduled to collect, workers are eligible for the automobile companys severance package C. their last scheduled day to collect, the automobile company offers its severance package to workers. D. their last scheduled day in order to collect, the automobile companys severance package is available to workers. E. the last day that they are scheduled to collect, the automobile companys severance package is available to workers.

E. the last day that they are scheduled to collect, the automobile companys severance package is available to workers.
i think the answer's D. A, B and C can be ruled out because the subject in the first half of the sentence is 'severance packages', so the subject in the latter half of the sentence should also refer to 'severance packages' and not 'workers' (in A & B) or 'automobile company' (in C)as in these two cases. E is wrong because, in my opinion, the correct sentence shud have been "...to wait until the last day when they are scheduled..."

ABC lack parallelism, in D their last scheduled day in order to collect .. need object ,E is correct..

Hi Ajay, Could you do me a favour? I read about the essay collection u have in some thread. Could u mail that to me? My id is
Could any one tell me watz the difference between the usage of "supposed" & "supposedly" ??
Good question!
Well as per my knowledge, "supposed" is used in a kind of negative way; for e.g. you may say, "I did not get any relief from that supposed effective pill". Also you use "supposed" for passive voice sentences, like, "well it is supposed that... " again in a negative sense. Intent is that, it is believed by people but there is no evidence.
For "supposedly", it is used in a bit more positive way. for e.g. "We are supposedly going on a date tonight".

Am I correct people?

Ok then please tell me which of the following sentence is correct? I don't think the +ve & -ve thing will work here.
Carbon-14 dating reveals that the megalithic monuments in Brittany are nearly 2,000 years as old as any of their supposed Mediterranean predecessors.

Is the answer ".......supposedly Mediterranean predecessors."
If not, then my logic fails.
PS: BTW "supposed" is an adjective and "supposedly " is an adverb.
nopes, the ans is the one with "supposed"
Meanwhile, I referred the dictionary and found
supposedly adverb
as people believe: as some people believe, or as people were led to believe "He was supposedly going to pick us up after work." "a supposedly instant remedy"
and
supposed adjective
accepted as true but doubtful: accepted, at least by some, as correct, real, or having a quality, but on slender or uncertain evidence "Frankly, I'm very dubious about this supposed brilliant idea of his"
