Thanks Ashish, for your post.
1) if you don't mind please clarify what is 3-2 split.
2) why did u prefer it that way - " Students in the early 1960s were taught X and Y."
can't we break it like this - " Students in the early 1960s were taught that X and Y." now also X and Y can be parallel as in my previous post.
1) There are 3 choices without "that" and 2 choices with "that". Hence 3-2. 2) Its a case of parallellism. It should be "Students were taught that.....and that....." not "Students were taught that.....and......"In GMATland, that is used to describe sthg which is essential. In my experience "that" should not be omitted very often. In GMAT "I believe that she is brilliant" is preferred over "I believe she is brilliant".NB: I cant leave any spaces in the post. Everything is coming in one para. Can any1 help ?
Yeah..OA is (B).
but.. i made a mistake while typing out the question. Option (B) must have "hospitalS".
In any case.. i was under the assumption that GMAT prefers the subjunctive... isn't "requires that" perfectly alright?
Can you plz tell me what's the difference between choices (B) & (E)? thanks a lot!

I found this one tricky.. plz provide explanation for this question. Thanks a lot.
The pronoun they correctly refers to patients in option B whereas it is wrong for option E
1. E: Correct
A and D is wrong as they use "had existed" and we are not comparing two earlier events here
B: in is a wrong usage when referring to an age "WHEN" great ice sheets...
C: where there were: wordy
2. C: correct
have a gut feeling that the two closest choice could be D and C, D fails to be the right answer as
it uses to maintain and (to) continue with a missing to before continue.
3 .E Correct
A: Pronoun Agreement
B: Pronoun Agreement
C: awkward
D: Confusing whether The Single strain of plant ot the whole process is a practice followed by...
4. D Correct, Only D uses the verbs in the same tenses.
5.D
The only thing that goes with increasing, causing is threatening, so B, C and D is removed.
possibly takes a lead over perhaps and thus D is the right answer,
6. D
A: not only should go with but also, also is missing here
B: both ...also is redundant
C: would prove themselves ...wordy
E:they refers to what?
7. D Correct: as 'and set free' goes with stunned being parallel to each other.
These are completely my views. Any Corrections, if at all, are most welcome.
Abhishek,
Thanks for the explanations. The OAs aer BCEDBDA in that order.
I am unable to understand your explanation for question 3.
Could you explain the pronoun agreement error in the choices?
And for question 2,
the correct choice has 'help maintain ' which are two verbs adjacent to each other
without a proper connecting word.
Also for Q1 ,do you know when can we use relative pronoun 'in which' in sentences.?
Guys I need help in understanding correct solution to the below sentence :

Here r the OAs......
The OA is (C)... :2gunfire:.. very tricky!
I chose (B) because it seems to convey the meaning very clearly....
can someone plz explain why (C) is better than (B)???
I guess that in case of option (b) the sentence should be a commoner or a foriegner .....
and also C sounds better in terms of conciseness
ashishjha100 SaysOAs are EBCEBD.......Pls post the reasoning for right ones.....
Hi Ashish,
I will try to provide reasoning for the correct answers...
1. "declined steadily during the first six months of this year but have remained virtually unchanged"...This is case of parallelism...
...declined steadily...in parallel with .....remained virtually unchanged......So E is answer.....
B,C uses remain....and D misses year...and A has no parallelism...
2. This I am not sure....
3. In all the other choices ....chemical composition is compared to terrestrial lava...."different from that of any terresrial lava" compares correctly..here the it compares chemical composition of tektites with that of chemical composition of any terrestrial lava...
4 . Can any one provide the explanation for this.....
5. since it has .."But at"...."not only at" shud be used for parallelism......this eliminates C,D
"The skill and the precision of the Anasazi" are two different things...so are shud be used...this eliminates A.....Cant find the diff b/w B & D....I guess in measuring is idiomatic than to measure.....
6. Have visited suggests the sentence is in Present Perfect....This eliminates B (see ...simple present), C(been seeing..present continuos)...E "marking by different colors" is illogical...
"with different colors marking" is better than with different colors marking....so D is correct

3. In C 'they' can refer to 'Tektites' or 'Volcanos'......?
wats wrong with E?

Hi Ashish,
I agree with you for the 3rd one that ..."they" has a chance to refer to Tektites' or 'Volcanos'....but "their chemical composition" does refer to Tektites and the line after ";" semi-colon should also be the logical continuation of the tektites....
For the 6th one....although "seen layers of sediment in the gaping canyon" is concise ...the option had "with different colors marking" ...at the end...then it would be the best answer....

(C) that light from a distant galaxy has been shifted

Answers are B A and A. Are these correct ?
1 - B, corridor through with the influences transmitted, not where , they did not physically transmit. Its used figuratively.
2 - A -because 'they' has no clear referent in other close answer choices.
2 - A -been is required and extent to which is better than extent that.
ankitgarg20 SaysOption E also compares the two things correctly. Why is "different" usage is correct and "differs from" is wrong?
hi Ankit,
I was just trying to reason for the correct answer which ashish posted... π π ...
My apologies for that...and regarding answer...
If you see my post where i mentioned my answers....you will come to know that ..i all chose E......because..."Different than " is idiomatic than different from ...according to MGMAT SC. ....and "that of any terrestrial lava's " is correct rather than "that of any terrestrial lava"...here lava's should be plural right...

'Different from' is the correct usage not 'Different that'.......
ashishjha100 Says'Different from' is the correct usage not 'Different that'.......
Please refer to MR-Sentence correction Guide Page No 65....
It states that "Although strict grammarians say that from is the correct word to use after different, many authorities believe that than may be used in order to avoid elaborate constructions. In contrast, the authorities agree that from is the correct word when used with differ"

ankitgarg20 SaysI beg to differ from you...according to "MGMAT", different from and differ from, both are correct usages. Untill of course, you didnt mean Manhattan GMAT by saying MGMAT
