I went thru this whole gmat affair, joined ims, referred a zillion books and at the end of it, managed to score 750. However i must admit that i did waste a lot of time referring unwanted books and also on coaching classes.

Guys, what is the use of solving problems not related to GMAT or higher than the GMAT level while preparing for actual GMAT.
For those aiming for an high score, Kaplan is great material. The problems are hard and in the range of what you are likely to see if you are scoring in the 740 - 800 range.
okay! So Dheepak, what I understand is OG11 is good enough. Plus as some people suggest to do OG10 and Manhattan SC for more practice. Is there any thing else that I should have. I would like to have all the material before I start my preparation. In fact I have got a lot of material except Kaplan from a friend. But saw that some people on PG have recommended Kaplan.

@Neo, This is not just my opinion, 90% of the people I've asked while i prepared for GMAT sugested the same. The questions in KAPLAN give a wrong idea off the GMAT.. Not worth anything

I didnt do the verbal part of Kaplan( i stuck with Manhattan) but I found the Kaplan800 book extremely useful. Like I said if you are aiming for a high score, its good for practice.
It isn't about giving a wrong idea of the GMAT. You have the basic outline that's more than enough. Predicting the level of difficulty of the Qs is not something you should be doing. You never know what's going to get asked. With enough experimental Qs in the group, you have to be prepared for everything. I would say if you have the time, do kaplan. You might learn something new.

OG10 has 1400 questions while the OG11 has 800, the OG V has 300 and OG Q has 300, which just so happens to add up to 1400. OG10 was basically split into the three new books. They did also swap out about 25% of the questions, but about 75% of the questions are the same.

Umm, from what i've heard (in Hyd) the service is decent and material is good. For them, the GMAT is their bread and butter so they are likely to focus strongly on it. In Mumbai/Delhi CL has a tie-up with Veritas.

You are better off spending $30 on a businessweek subscription. Also, be careful with the 1000 series. The answers aren't often clear and are ambiguous. The source of these questions is still unclear.

I was also planning to go 4 the BusinessWeek yearly subscription, is it worth 30$??? I was about to subscribe but when it provided 2004-2007 in the dropdown for which year I would like to start my MBA, i thought it is an outdated stuff....... Any ideas.......

OG11 - Official Guide 11 - As the name suggests, is official containing 800 real GMAT questions. It is the bible for GMAT if you may say so . It is a physical book. An e-book probably exists.
I wanted to take test latest by June end or July first week but no dates are avialable. If I want to go for January session in universities what is the latest time I can give my GMAT? Also what is the latest date I can take my test to avoid losing on ISB? Please reply.

Please mail me the materials...For Gmat or managment based preparation..
2. Presently working as central govt employee and can study for 2-3 hrs daily.
3. Collected the prep mtrl .
a. Kaplan premier b. Kaplan 800 c. OG 11 d. princeton review
4. Gone through the strategy of all the three books except Kaplan 800. and started with SC.
5. Expect to get the score of 700. and not willing to join any coaching classes.
Pls advice will it be okay with above prep mtrl and without coaching..
Hi sheetal, Coaching can help, if u r not self disciplined. Otherwise self study is a quicker and more effective way of getting things right, especially if ur basics are all right. I too started 2weeks back. no coaching,started with OG11 and manhattan SC. I heard from a few friends getting abov 730 that kaplan 800 is too difficult and hence is not required; not the real gmat like questions. All the best !!
