GMAT Prep Material 2023

Hey guys,
I have just started my prep for GMAT and have collected some stuff from friends. Somehow most of the prep stuff that I received, Kaplan books, Princeton review and so on, is from 2004. Do u think this can still be used or has there been some major change in the scope or content of GMAT tests since then.

The last 2 years not much has changed in the GMAT world except for 3 phenomenas:

(a) www.manhattangmat.com - Buy the SC book for around $26 (shipping charges extra). This is the best thing to happen to GMAT since they changed to the CAT format. Worth its weight in pure 99.98% 24-carat gold

(b) OG 11, OG Verbal Workbook, OG Quant Workbook - Frankly I don't know if we were better off without them or with them. Apart from splurging sizeably more on these books, the questions are not new at all. One thing we would have expected is ETS atleast comes up with newer retired questions. I personally feel OG 10 still rocks.

(c) Scoretop.com - Go for the VIP membership. Period.

Arun

Cheers arun,
Thanks for the help man.... I have OG10 but was planning to go for OG11 as well but am having second thoughts now...
One more thing... Is it helpful to enroll for one of the online prep courses. If yes, which one would you recommend.
Thx

I would say Manhattan yet again, unhesitatingly but heck its damn expensive. The reason I mentioned it was because I see you are in Germany. So if you are earning in Euros it might seem more economical.

Apart from that, I would recommend nothing else except Scoretop. They have something wherein you can get an online mentor or something. I do not know how it works but would say its worth the shot.

Hi PG's,
is there any prep material i can get in Pune? I came across Princeton Review, but i read a devastating review of that book (Along withteh coaching centre IMS).

What material do you want ? How do you want us to help you ? Unless you are specific about your queries no one might be able to chip in.

To each his own

Again, I feel you have everything that one could possibly need for a good score. Maybe you might want to rethink your approach. The second time around it makes more sense to have a very clear picture of what NOT to do rather than what to do. You want to avoid things you did wrong the first time around.

Think about it.

Hi guyz out there! I am a fresh stock to PG. I am an MBA aspirant... I am an engineer and have work exp of 2 years.

Can someone tell me how important is work exp in GMAT? How much experience is considered appropriate to get admission in a decent reputed institute? What is a good score in GMAT? Are there any good consultants in Delhi, NCR who can guide me?

I will appreciate if you get back with these queries.

Many many thanks in advance...

Ahh... I am actually a novice and till date concentrated only on CAT. I never even bothered to spell GMAT. Now I am looking at GMAT.

I came across refernces to Kaplan books (4 books) as the better of the lot for starting the preparation for GMAT.

To rephrase my question:
1) Where can i find the details of syllabus for GMAT? (pls forgive me for this basic question).
2) Any good refernce books to cover the syllabus (i belive i will start off with the Kaplan books).
3) Any sites providing online resources like practice tests and such.

Cheers

Never too late. But I would expect you take some help from google

True. Many source cite Kaplan as way better than PR. Also consider getting your hands on a copy of Manhattan book on SC/CR/RC.

I did a small google search for you:
http://gmat.prepedge.com/gmat-cat-test-syllabus-topics-maths-verbal/gmat-computer-test-problem-solving-rc-sentence-correction-critical-reasoning.shtml

2) Any good refernce books to cover the syllabus (i belive i will start off with the Kaplan books).

Most books like Kaplan 2007 Premier edition cover the entire spectrum pretty comprehensively. For additional help you might want to refer Kaplan Verbal Workbook or Kaplan 800. Also, there is a book by Manhattan (www.manhattangmat.com) on various Verbal topics which are invaluable too.

Most importantly, there is something called OG (you might hear this word quite often). It stands for Official Guide, which is published by the guys who used administer the GMAT - ETS and has all retired GMAT questions. It is a must buy. Either the 10th or the 11th edition.

3) Any sites providing online resources like practice tests and such.

Again, google should do the trick. There is some place on PG called GMAT Resources which has a huge list of links. Also go to a site called daveformba.blogspot.com and you will find plenty of links on the main homepage itself (to the right bottom).

That should get you kick-started ! ATB !

Thanks a ton... I never thought of googling my way out in this case... But i did check up previous posts in this thread... few links i got were:

http://esnips.com/web/Prep-E-Books
or
http://esnips.com/web/GMATReviewV30Samples
http://www.pagalguy.com/311200-post7.html

I have also downloaded the OG 10 guide and few other soft copies i came across.

But i can i be sure of the authenticity of tehse materials? I mean how can i be sure that teh material i am reading is correct and not some joke book posing as a soft copy of OG10?
??:

Hey,
Does anyone has OG 11??

:

HI Arun,
thanks for that...I will work more on my approach this time, however the problem with existing material is familiarity. I reiterate, I have Kap online course, Kap 800, OG 11 and SC 1000 (SC 1000- I was getting only 60% accuracy). Are there other sources of material?
thanks...

Why do you think you always need people to tell you the answer ? Think about it. If I were you I would probably get it compared with the actual book or still better send it across to someone who has gone through the actual book. Why wouldn't you want to think along these lines ?

Don't get me wrong. Forums are a great place to discuss and ask questions. But somehow I feel people stop utilizing their better sense and feel they need to spoon-feed.

I wish you all the best in your journey to a great GMAT score. We are always around to help you if you get lost

Is this a poll on how many people on this forum have the OG 11 ?

If yes, please add one vote for "aye" from me

Okay ! I know you were meaning to ask something else. So please rephrase your question. As a newbie, one good advice from me is - always re-read your post and ask yourself if people can make out what you are asking. After a while, you will get a hang of it.

Hi Sunil,

I would say OG 10 (since you have done OG11), OG Verbal and Quant Workbooks, Manhattan SC are the top books that come to my mind.

Plus over and above try solving the same questions but this time around with a fresh perspective. Maybe you missed out something the first time around ? Maybe you see something "hidden" the second time ? Who knows ? Plus its a lot faster to solve now so you will save on time too.

Apart from that register at www.scoretop.com and solve the JJS and GMATSets.

Man, if i had the book on me or with some one i knew, i wqould have taken it from them. I would not rely on some obscure download. .

But you are right, there is a fine line between expecting help and expecting spoon feeding.
