hey pguys, have been preparing for the gmat for amonth now and think i am finally ready for the og10 and 11 as well as the kaplan 800..(phew!!) Hoping to score above a 700. Anyways, please let me know if the kaplan 800 and og11 or 10 is available ANYWHERE in delhi. i have scanned the whole of north campus and cp, some of these shopkeepers refuse to accept that such books even exist!!! its really frustrating. hehe, anyway, i have been on the lookout for quite sometime now and am getting really desperate as i havent found these books as yet. please help, someone.
hey chaps i'm a newbie here and i must say, this is an awesome thread on a fabulous site. within hours of my decision to take the GMAT in early December, I was able to chalk out the roadmap for my preparation, thanks to guys like "IDAY" But I do have a few queries and would appreciate if someone could stand up and advise. 1. I'm working in Singapore with IBM and the working hours are typically 9am to 7pm. Will 8 weeks be enough for the prep and practice? All I have is 2-3 hours every night on weekdays and the weekends. 2. I have access to the following - a. OG 11 b. OG Quant c. OG Verbal d. Kaplan Premier e. Kaplan 800, and f. other shit material like barron's, arco and thomson. Is it enough ? In what order should I do the above ?

(a) How much prep time you need depends on how much you already know - for example if you have taken CAT earlier then quant maybe easier etc. things like that. So that is something you need to figure out. 8 weeks sounds like a good number. For certain you won't fall short of time to complete all the stuff - if you stick to your plan of studying 2hours on weekdays and 4-6hours on weekends.
(b) The books you have sounds more than enough (a to e) supplement this with stuff from the internet (including scoretop) and you should be sailing !!
Hey ppl, It seems that scoretop has removed the gmat sets link from their site.Anybody has the sets downloaded, please make a link for it, so that all of us can access it.
Can anyone please help me with a small query that i have??
Is there any difference between Kaplan GMAT, 2006 Edition: Premier Program & Kaplan GMAT, 2007 Edition: Premier Program (both CD versions with the full length tests).???? Thank You In Advance.

I haven't seen the 2007 book but my presumption/gut-feel is that it shouldn't be anything more than just cosmetic changes. You should do good with either of them. The only change would be that since the change of the administration from ETS to Pearsons VUE, the new book would have stuff about the new testing proceedure. Nothing in terms of content.
hey guys, im planning to take up the gmat next august. i wanted to get a realstic picture of the financing part of the mba abroad. would a bank loan suffice to get one through the course? im planning to take up the course in the states or in canada. would the cost of living there prove to be a barrier to my pursuing the course? could someone please throw some light on this. i have tried to geet info from friends but to no use
I found this forum via net while search for some GMAT related info. I hope someone could answer to my question.
Today I went trough the GMATprep software and my result was:
q: 39 (22/37) v: 21 (24/41)
I wonder how is this possible? I even had worst results on my first 10 Q questions (6 wrong answers) thn in my first 10 V questions (4 wrong).
Is it possible that the software made a mistake? Everytime I look in a raw score/scaled score table there is no way that a raw score is higher that the scaled one....I am really afraid now, because on Friday, 13 it's my test day...

Here is the deal - short & sweet:
(a) If you get into a top Bschool you will get a non-collateral loan
(b) If not, you have to spring close to 35-45 lakhs depending on where you want to do an MBA. Check the tuition fees plus annual expenditure on each college website
(c) You can take an educational loan upto 20lakhs from nationalized banks in India (albeit at a higher rate of interest).
(d) You can take personal loans for say 10lakhs too provided you have someone back here in India to repay the EMIs. You can then take it up once you finish your course.
(e) Check Paras Education Foundation on the internet. I do not know them much you might have to do your own R&D.;
(f) See if the school has any schols. Mostly for a great GMAT Score you will get plenty of schols from lower-rung schools. But it depends on whether you want to join them.

Actually the GMAT algorithm seems to have worked fine - you seem to have made considerable mistakes (14 in quant with 6 out of first 10 is huge). Your scores are an accurate reflection of what would happen even on the actual GMAT.
I think you are slightly confused about the raw score/scaled score thingy. Here is a quick primer.
Depending on the questions you get right, position of those mistakes and sequence of the mistakes you get a 2-digit raw score in each section. The highest possible if 51 (don't ask me why GMAC says its 60 - I have no clue).
Both your raw scores are taken together to compute the 3-digit GMAT score which will be your scaled score. I presume with a Q37/V21 you might have got around 470.
Please check my blog for more information on GMAT scoring:
I have to give the GMAT ASAP, have to get the scores by the 20th of June. I need a minimum score of 600.
My queries:
1. Is it possible? Will I get a date (Delhi Centre)? 2. How long does it take to get the results after the test? 3. I got a 98.35% ile in CAT. I consistently scored above 99%ile in the mocks. How much prep do I need to prepare for getting a 600 on the GMAT? Obviously, the higher the better. 4. Suggestions for preparation. And what does OG mean?? :(
Please, help me out here....thanks!

Vineet, I'm appearing for GMAT on 24th Oct. and would be glad if you could pass on the material that you have mentioned in your blogs that helped you. If possible please send it to [email protected] Thanks in advance.
hi, what are the GMAT sets that were available at scoretop ? are they the compilation of original GMAT questions from the current set, similar to JJs ?Ravi
hey arun, thanks a lot for that informative stuff man.
btw the paras education loan site was quite useful. hope what they project outside is really true.
hey do u have any idea which topics in gmat math do i have to concentrate a lot on? like in cat, numbers and geom make up for the chunk of math ques. similarly is there any particular topic that in shoulf focus more on? yest i tried solving ques from OG11. i thought itd be pretty ok and i would score decent grades. but to my amazement i could just get an average. i invariably get the critical reasoning wrong. i havent tried SC as of now. any tips on prep?

(a) No specific area you can focus on. OG 11 has all the areas you need to focus on. People *usually* find DS (any topic), perm-comb, probability and inequalities most difficult.
(b) GMAT is a different ball-game than CAT. So maybe you want to un-learn some CAT strategies and read up more on GMAT strategies.
(c) Just 1 tip - Try to be on the straight and narrow and don't waste too much time trying to learn everything there is on the internet.
