GIM GD/PI Discussions 2012-2014

Hi,

Fall in vegetable prices was the major contributing factor in dis reduction as the agricultural growth has been very good in d past months.
Also as d economy is trying 2 gnaw back 2 a good position prior 2 Budget being declared....it wont b stable......mostly it will decrease a bit more.....
For RBI.....a decent / safe rate is 5 - 6% b4 dey can think of decreasing d interest rates which dey hiked during infaltion........
Hope dis little info helps....

Inflation rate mainly rises when a country prints more currency than advised??
Is this true or are there more causes contributing to the rise of inflation rate??

And I guess the central bank of a country keeps a target of inflation to be under 2 to 3 percent. Correct me if m wrong.
Thanx.

this is a lovely article on reduction in inflation. it also tells which food item prices contributed majorly to the reduction as well as how the near future is going to be.
http://www.firstpost.com/economy/inflation-is-down-to-6-55-but-dont-bet-on-rate-cuts-yet-212668.html

Hi,

The rates given were in regards of food inflation.........wherein Central Statistics Office declared dese rates based on Consumer Price Index recently....
Excessive growth in money supply as u pointed out...is d commonly considered view for rise in inflation at an increasing pace...
Bt dere r also causes like company hiking rate 2 maintain deir profit margins or ven demand is more dan supply which was d case in India wherein the agricultural growth was affected nd reduced bt d demand as per our population was high....
Also d rate of 2-3% is mostly kept as target by developed countries...

Ven I said dat 5-6% is a safe rate....i meant dat it is a safe rate for RBI 2 start cutting back d interest rates dat it hiked during d infaltion period....nt as n overall inflation rate...

Also a decent.....or a small infaltion is always good....as it is a sign of a healthy nd growing economy....

chk out dis link....mayb dis mite b useful....

Another cause of inflation is a rise in production costs, which leads to an increase in the price of the final product. For example, if raw materials increase in price, this leads to the cost of production increasing, which in turn leads to the company increasing prices to maintain steady profits. Rising labor costs can also lead to inflation. As workers demand wage increases, companies usually chose to pass on those costs to their customers.

Inflation can also be caused by international lending and national debts. As nations borrow money, they have to deal with interests, which in the end cause prices to rise as a way of keeping up with their debts. A deep drop of the exchange rate can also result in inflation, as governments will have to deal with differences in the import/export level.

Finally, inflation can be caused by federal taxes put on consumer products such as cigarettes or fuel. As the taxes rise, suppliers often pass on the burden to the consumer; the catch,

The Inflation you are talking about is related to Consumer Price Index. right?
please throw some light on CPI related Inflation and WPI related Inflation.
How are CPI and WPI related?

ABOUT ECONOMICS: WPI vs CPI

Can any one elaborate the differences between Hedge funding and mutual funds??
And why is that hedge funds can return profit even when the market is crashing??
Thanx.

CPI - consumer price index. It is used to measure inflation like WPI - wholesale price index.

Though I dont know them in detail , I know that consumer price index is in crude terms related to evaluating the pricing of selected products that are routinely purchased by individuals.

In contrast, the wholesale price index focuses on purchases or trades that are made between corporations. Monitoring this trading activity between companies makes it easier to determine the presence of shifts in supply and demand within industries, based on the price movements of the selected products.

Just got this on the website.

Most of the major economies like US, UK, Japan, France, Singapore and even our arch rival China have selected CPI as its official barometer to weigh its inflation. But our country, India, is amongst few countries of the world, which selected WPI as its official scale to measure the inflation in the economy.

The main difference between WPI and CPI is that wholesale price index measures inflation at each stage of production while consumer price index measures inflation only at final stage of production.

One of the most important reason why India goes for WPI in place of CPI is that data on CPI is available only in monthly frequency, while WPI data is available on weekly basis which makes it a better measure to keep a track of inflation in India.

Operations has started as a majors subject for the first time for the 2010-2012 batch.

There are various profiles offered in operations, as already mentioned by Avinash. Details would be shared as soon as the placement report is published.

1. You don't need to get any reference letters. The work Ex Letter will suffice. Also get along joining letter and pay slips if you have, else not compulsory. 2. Get the notarized true copy with you. But the 10th certificate will def be required at the time of admissions. So do arrange for a duplicate one before that. For now, it is ok if you bring the notarized one.
