What was the cut off this year?
MrFit SaysWhat was the cut off this year?
1. Based on the %iles you all have posted here, it seems 76.48%ile is the cut off for Non-Goans.
2. I request now all of you to focus only on GD/PI Preps and ask us query regarding the same.
3. The rest kind of queries can be asked later or may be put up on the Admissions Helpdesk Thread.
4. There are many applicants for which FB Group Approval is on hold. Kindly PM the GIM ID with full name, so that I approve your request. The trivial things can be discussed on FB Group so that this thread is not cluttered with unimportant things.
Thanks.. !!
1. There are quite a few students in our batch with 4+ years of work ex.
2. You can convince the panels by puting focus on your work ex and how that work ex will help you learning all skills at a B School and then taking it further from there in your career.
3. Also do a proper research on difference between a Regular MBA and an Executive MBA. You can try convincing the panels by puting focus on the disadvantages of an Executive MBA and that's why it's the right time for you to go for a Regular MBA.
You could also specify that how an executive MBA is for professional who are experienced in a particular line and have moved up few levels , typically the concept of executive MBA is like a finishing school where you are going to polish and redefine skill set which managers are already practicing in their fields.
A Full time MBA will be a learning which would help you redefine your skill set and since you would like to pursue HR specify how Hospitality has taught you about customer management skills an MBa and a specialization in HR would teach you people management skills ... But saying this.. dont fix your specialisation .. it would change once you get into a mba.. So you could say that while HR as a specialisation is your interest ,but this is something you know about only from what you have seen as an outsider and thats where a full time MBA would give me a full learning to understand all specialisations and acc i could choose my Major and Minor Subjects during the course.
Just a thought of mine...
Thanks & Regards

This is for people who are from Mechanical Engineering Background:
Freshers be through with atleast two favourite topics.
Also keep the inportant mech topics like I.C engines and thermo on your fingertips.(these are topics which define a mech engineer.)
For those having experience be thorough with the work that you have done.
Also be prepared to relate your experience with MBA and with the majors you might want to take up.
Also, having work-ex does not mean you cannot be questioned on acads.(Personal experience. I have 2 yrs of mech core work-ex but was questioned on acads only.):banghead:
Be prepared with topics like 6-sigma, supply chain etc. These are important from an MBA point of view.
All the best.!!
i am an electronics and telecommunication engineer .i completed my grad last year. i have a decent academic reord..i really would be thaknful if any senior can guide me with what all i can be asked for interiews.I did my engineering in goa itself.and i would like to know what can be asked related to my field of specializatn.
i would also like to know if there will be a lot of grilling done on technical stuff during the intrws???
Hi Avinash
I have got the GIM call on the basis of my XAT score. I have also applied through CMAT.(GIM is the only college I have applied through CMAT) However, my CMAT exam date is clashing with an interview call at some other institute. I am in a fix whether to take the test or attend the interview.
Just wanted to know that will my not taking the cmat exam now affect my chances of converting the GIM call(through xat). I mean will the interviewers know that I applied for it and did not sit for it?
Please suggest. You guys are doing an awesome job of helping us and hence thought of asking this to you!

1. Since you have already got the call and now you won't get a 2nd call for CMAT, you can give preference to interview in my view.
2. This will have no impact what so ever on your chances of convert.
3. The only loss that you will have is in the 50% weightage of XAT/CMAT Score in which the best of 2 scores would have been considered for you. Now it will be your XAT Score that will be considered.
4. Hope this helps. All the best.
I had a chat with a chemical engineer in my batch....
any Physics student in your batch? If,then kindly can you tell me about possible questions..?TIA:o
Those of you who are interested for marketing and wish to specify the same in interview can expect few basic questions about Marketing.
Why Marketing?
What do you know about Marketing?
Any exposure to Marketing?
Difference between Sales & Marketing?
Any example where you convinced others to do something
etc etc..
There is no specific answer to Why Marketing. It all comes from your choice and interest.
Do read this thread : http://www.pagalguy.com/discussions/why-marketing-25066758
You will get a lot of insights.
Some more gyaan about Marketing :
4 P's : Product, Price, Place, promotion
Sales Vs Marketing : In sales, focus is on product and the seller while in marketing, the focus is on buyer and their needs.
SWOT Analysis : Strength, Weakness, Oppurtunities, Threat
PESTEL : Political, Economical, Social, Technological, Educational, Legal
Market Research : used for solving problem through analysis, surveys, etc.
1. Since you have already got the call and now you won't get a 2nd call for CMAT, you can give preference to interview in my view.
2. This will have no impact what so ever on your chances of convert.
.
Thank you for the assurance. I was also inclined towards not taking the exam.
Seniors at GIM: I'm an English Hons. grad (fresher obviously) 2011. What questions can I expect from my background? Also, does the present batch have any English Hons. student there at GIM?
hi,
i want to take up HR... can you pls tell me what all questions can be asked during pi on HR...
im not interested in any other specialization... can this create a problem during pi???
regards
It should not create a problem. but then be ready to face few basic questions based on HR.
Some of the questions can be like this :
1. Why HR?
2. What value do you see in the HR function?
3. What are the qualities required in an HR Professional?
4. Regarding Laws?
5. Various Functions of HR - recruitment, training, policies, compensations, etc.
6. Which function are you more interested in?
7. About Industrial Relations
Also check 6th post on Page no 53 by Siddharth Goyal. That might be helpful.

crazydreamer SaysI had a chat with a chemical engineer in my batch....any Physics student in your batch? If,then kindly can you tell me about possible questions..?TIA:o
I am trying to get reviews about all kinds of background, the general questions asked in that field and some gyaan.
It may take some time. But till such time, kindly view the experiences of last year's gd/pi. That will also give you all an idea about the kind of questions asked in the PI.
2011-2013 : http://www.pagalguy.com/discussions/2011-2013-goa-institute-of-management-gim-gd-pi-experiences-25063339
2010-2012 : http://www.pagalguy.com/discussions/gim-gd-pi-experiences-2010-25050433
For Freshers from Computer Science Engg/Information Technology may expect questions from following topics, but again this not an extensive list as you all know there are endless questions and there is no limit for any PI, but to be on safer side you can prepare well and brush through basic stuff of these important Topics:
1. DBMS
2. Automata theory
3. OS
4. Software Engg.
5. Microprocessor
6. C++
7. System Software
Important point to be noted is that when I say Automata theory it does not mean that you will have to start mugging up the whole Automata theory all over again, as we know us waqt bhi humney nahi padha that oh ab kya padhenegy :-P:
nevertheless u should know what is Turing machine and basic discrete math just to give some gyaaaan in PI, similarly for other topics.
People with experience in IT sector (more than 1year) you can be exempted from these academic questions (but then no guarantee). For them PI will be mainly based on
1) Domain Knowledge depending on your profile
2) How much confident you are in explaining the panel about your work (as they dont know anything about the specific project you are handling in office, but they judge you on the confidence you show and the reasoning you provide)
3) What do you understand about the business of the client you are working for?
Again they will not screw you much on the technical front of your work but the functional and business knowledge you carry will be tested.
I may have missed many points; this is just a sincere effort to help u all. So it is requested to the fellow pguys in this forum to share your own knowledge with fellow mates as you might have experienced many GD/PI till date, which will be helpful to everyone.

i have a GIM call through my XAT score.(82%ile).
However i have screwed up decision making really bad.. (18%ile):banghead:
Will this be taken into consideration at the time of the interview/ final selection???
Coz in some places like SCMHRD and all they dont disclose the marks at the time of the interview.. and with this score wat chances do i have of converting ????
Should I be prepared with a justification.. coz frankly there IS NO logical explaination for SUCH a LOW percentile.. :banghead:
Any suggestions ????
PLease help.. !! ![]()

Yes you should prepare some sort of justification for low score in any section and provide backing by stating your CAT score if you have scored better in that section in CAT, because it is very common question from panellist i.e. why you have scored less score in that section.

1. We have a concept of Majors and Minors here for taking specialisation in 2nd Year at GIM.
2. Till last to last year, Operations was there as a Minors only. But for the present 2nd year Batch, Operations got introduced as Majors as well.
3. 8 people opted as Majors in the present 2nd yr Batch.
4. 25 people from our batch are expected to take Ops as Majors.
5. You have a decent work ex. So you can take Ops as Majors and Marketing as Minors. It will be a good combination as well.
thanks for making it lucid.....
