1. We have a concept of Majors and Minors here for taking specialisation in 2nd Year at GIM.
2. Till last to last year, Operations was there as a Minors only. But for the present 2nd year Batch, Operations got introduced as Majors as well.
3. 8 people opted as Majors in the present 2nd yr Batch.
4. 25 people from our batch are expected to take Ops as Majors.
5. You have a decent work ex. So you can take Ops as Majors and Marketing as Minors. It will be a good combination as well.

1. Systems is available as a specialisation in 2nd yr at GIM (though minors only).
2. So you can take Systems as a minors for sure.
3. If you are interested in it, you can def put it in front of the panel members. but be prepared for the questions that may be asked.
What's is the scope and placement scenario of Operations management at GIM.
Since I hail form an Industrial engineering background, a specialization in operations would come as a natural choice for me.
Do we have recruiters visiting who offer us profiles like SCM consulting etc?
wat all the questions can i expect regarding system/IT?

1. The scope and placement scenario of all the trades is very good here at GIM.
2. Since we had very few students in Operations uptill now, many companies who were interested to come at GIM for profiles related to Ops were turned down because of unavailability of students.
3. The students with Ops as specialisation have been placed with very good profiles.
4. Request you to wait for the report after which we will reveal all the data and figures related to Placement of 2012.

Avinash Sir/Any Senior/Fellow puys, can u help me with a study on the US-Indian Nuclear deal and The Sri lankan peace process?? I am not being able to grasp the matter entirely.... Can u just help me with a gist of it? (With your opinions ofcourse).
first of all, no 'sir' okay..
being fresher doesn't have any kind of negative impact on your chances for getting through...
I personally believe, pharma background is very much in advantage for you because , firstly, lots of pharma/ healthcare companies come to campus and will be looking for people with pharma background too. Secondly lots of professors are having experience in pharma industry. Thirdly, in Goa, there are lots of pharma companies.
Having said that, you have to be very clear on your expectations from MBA. Try to project yourselves as a pharma graduate and brush up a bit of your pharma knowledge as u may be interviewed by professors with pharma background. If you wish to pursue a career in pharma industry, GIM is a good place for you, so be confident about your career objective and give your best shot. Also be prepared for questions like why not healthcare management, why not M pharm, why not hospital management/administration and most importantly why pharma and MBA.

Hello Puys,
I have nearly 4 years of experience and a Post Graduate diploma in Hospitality as well. I know for sure it is going to take a lot out of me to convince the panel why an MBA now? This is what I faced last year in few other colleges. I am not able to prepare a best possible answer to this. I want to get into the HR and be out of the Hotel industry for real. Now I cannot be so honest to them and dig my own grave. Please help me with few pointers and also if there are any current students with more than 4 years of experience. I am asking this because a trend has come up to encourage freshers for an mba and with work ex go for an executive. Please guide me.
Thanks.

1. There are quite a few students in our batch with 4+ years of work ex.
2. You can convince the panels by puting focus on your work ex and how that work ex will help you learning all skills at a B School and then taking it further from there in your career.
3. Also do a proper research on difference between a Regular MBA and an Executive MBA. You can try convincing the panels by puting focus on the disadvantages of an Executive MBA and that's why it's the right time for you to go for a Regular MBA.
Thank you Avinash,
I have alread spoken to Joel who has a very similar profile as mine. Can you get me in touch with any other Hotel Management student currently studying at GIM?
Thanks

Dude there are many students who have almost 4 yrs or more of experience. You need to find answer to the question "for why MBA now?" question because it is indeed highly probably that you will be asked this question. For the answers you need to introspect and come out with some genuine reason on why do you want to do an MBA now. I would say don't be rigid on the choice of Majors as of now. But you can always give reasons like your experience in the hospitality industry will help you in understanding people better and make you a better people's manager. You need to find such reasons. There is no reason why you cannot get through.
All the best.
