Well Shishir thats a real tuf one maan.Both r good ofcourse an tryin to find the better one wud be like tryin to split hairs.........know wat I mean.
If u go by the magazine rankings u wud probably find SIBM higher up the pecking order.But do they give the real picture? I for one dont think so.The proof of this......compare any 2-3 magazines an u will find them so dissimilar that there is no point in tryin to make any sense of the whole thing. That is bcoz of the methodology used by them...........can any person ever find out how good or bad a college is by spendin a few moments on it.......highly unlikely it seems to me. Also the weightages they give to the various parameters like infra, faculty, placements etc is highly disproportionate.
The other option u hav is speakin to students an faculty of the respective colleges.......but even here the problem is that u wud get highly biased views on their respective colleges.
. Secondly even if u ask an SIBM/ GIM student bout his/ her college at best they mite give u an unbiased view of their own college and they arnt in any kinda position to comment bout the other.The best way ahead in my option wud be for u to find out wat is important to u in life an what u xpect frm ur mba degree and hence ur mba college to provide.If ur lookin at placements as a priority (which most ppl do) then I guess SIBM has the edge. But if its the course content and faculty thats more important to u then GIM should be ur destination.

firstly shishir double congrats2u!!
1.one clear input from me is that if u want to do marketting then both institutes are booming(n will continue to do more so 2yrs dwn the line).so choose the one where u dont hv to shell out too much money.
2.secondly, if u wud want to specialize in other than marketting then sibm mite hv an advantage,cz of location n placement profiles ..gim hs an adv as far as faculty goes, nd i m sure gim will overcome this locational disadv soon enuf.but u hv a choice to be safer.
lastly,more consequential than this decision is "how u utilize ur opportunities at the institute, hw u value add" cz any opportunity is only as good as u make it.as bacchanalian hs already said, dat these rankings can be skewed,n anyways keep changing each yr .u r not a variable .u r a brand maybe.so whatever decision u take ,just dont feel as if u hv missd out on anything.in the end its just u ..nd ur output....

well SIBM is definitely better i suppose when it comes to placements but GIM is way above when it comes to transparency, values and ethics. if you are thinking solely on the lines of placement go for SIBM but if you are thinking of good quality education with values, ethics and a no-nonsense kind of an environment do go for GIM. Well the last couple of years GIM has almost caught up with SIBM in terms of the salaries offered..but let me tell you mate..salary should not be the criterion for you to choose an institute to do your management programme.

well, about the coming Delhi meet, time a venue have been finalized. We r meeting at C3 s , lajpat Nagar at 2:00 PM. i have already got the confirmation from Neha, Moneet, Anish, Sonam, Ghiyaz, Rajiv...i have yet to get a confirmation from Bhavesh ( he only told me, to have this meeting on friday). Aditi is out of station, so will not be joining us.
and Udhit, Abhishek and Richa r absconding... well if any of u read this post plz let me know that ur not kidnapped by unwanted elements... i m very much worried guys

Into the break on CNBC...the first time i got to see the man behind this revolution , everything abt pg, right frm how he is putting in 4 lacs per year into it to his MBA degree at wharton has been discussed...gr8 day for PG
WELCOME TO GIM!!!!
As the sun dips slowly and the day moves towards twilight, the barges chug their way slowly up the river. The students of GIM let out a collective sigh of relief as the classes and tests for the day are over and ...THE MADNESS BEGINS!!! Our days consist of group meetings, project work and plenty of fun. Staying up all through the night, pretending to being completing an assignment, but actually arguing about some arbitrary theory about life, propounded by some genius amongst us, is a regular sight in GIM.
And then the clock strikes 12 and its time for our midnight meal, accompanied by the same genius, who insists on convincing you of his theory. You have a glass of ice-cold creamy bournvita in one hand, and the latest finance case in the other (which, by the way, you are still pretending to be doing). At the same time you are trying to kick the idiot(or rather, genius) of the life theory fame while try to stealthily eat french fries, egg rolls or noodles from the plate of the person next to you. That, my friends is how you learn multi-tasking at GIM, which as managers of tomorrow, blah, blah, blah.....(lets leave that gyaan giving for the professors and the sorely kicked genius)
But don't think you can get away here just like that. We did do our work, whether we planned it days in advance and finished it 1-2 days early or stayed up till the wee hours of the morning the day before the submission....it was done. Weve done the days and nights of theories of marketing, gotten blurry eyed doing accounts, traveled to the industrial complexes for our projects, struggled to sleep without getting caught in class, with your neighbour nudging you every time the professor looked at you over the top of his soda glasses and heard about how "CHANGE IS THE ONLY THING CONSTANT IN OUR LIVES"

Visions of volleyball and football matches, the basanti cricket cup, with throngs of supporters crowding the quadrangle, the colours of holi, the lights of diwali,and the rafi, kishore, juggy D, metallica or some very famous tamil number vibrating through the corridors of the hostels, will forever remain with us.
These are some of our memories in GIM. Come make your own.
