@nishanta2006 any updates on other areas
@maitreya well, ppl (like me) tend to pick up options closest to home...u might have ur own metrics...all the best!! :)
btw, u can also look at the PhD programmes in Eco. offered by JNU, DU, IGIDR & the likes.

@gajamani There is tuition fee in IIM Shillong for FPM. Not everything is free in FPM. There are some fees to be paid plus expenses anyways for FPM in other IIMs- hostel / staying outside campus, boarding, deposits, membership, and misc exp. like travel etc. Even XLRI has requisite annual fees to be paid for FPM program. As far as I know, banks do not give loans when they do not have trust of repayment.
@steegala hmm...these are serious issues i understand; in case u join IIM-R, u shall have to pay for food and nothing else!!
@sayanddude : Both are hanging in the same boat...truly speaking XLRI is a better avenue for candidate's opting for HRM, Personnel Management & Industrial Relations area.... and of course for an area like Production & Operations like yours it is questionable for a DOCTORAL as such over there....hopefully me being in HR (studied Industrial Relations and Personnel Management as in MA & M.Phil both and with 10+ post experience in the same field with a keen aspiration to undergo the program only at XL which I have virtually dreamt off as it aligns to my profile vis-Ä‚ -vis institute per se).
You know I have been opted out neck to neck in the final interview in IIMC just because I eventually told the panel during the interaction that for HRM XLRI is a better option than IIMC for a Doctoral. By the way any good institutes like IIMs may give a sound course curriculum to know the whole gamut of PGP, but coming to doctoral we need to be choosy with faculty profiles & institute specialization & its genesis etc.
But alas I got waitlisted in my chosen place. It may sound unethical to say but however, if you may try out other IIMs as your area of research is different than its core specialization of XLRI it may hopefully give me a chance to graduate my waitlist by 1 more and this stands to be a probability for me to get in at the ripe age of 33 at least....
Looking forward for your support.

the xl website mentions otherwise "...and no fees (admission, tuition, course material, computer, or library) will be charged."
@dd2013 ...the website also keeps mentioning "The FPM student who has done his/her PGP from XLRI, any IIM, MDI Gurgaon, FMS Delhi or XIM Bhubaneswar..." -- this also gives a fair idea of selecting a b-school even for FPM, i.e. furthering a PGP!!

hmm...that could have referred to residency (boarding & utilities) charges; even I'm not aware of other components...none of the XL profs. mentioned anything :P

According to a current student of XL, there`s a fees of 1.5 lacs for the first yr (which includes hostel, tuition, mess charges, etc) and from 2nd yr onwards, one has to pay only the hostel and cafeteria charges (arnd Rs.40k annually).
@AAOne @sayanddude one of the pluses at XL is that they will pay u 25k extra for teaching assistance from 3rd yr

Yes that`s true... so the income from stipends and RA/TA sal is much more than that of other institutes.
@caprion ofcourse it is....however, usually there r too many of those FRAs/TAs around in the IIMs...i hardly find anyone willing to take that assignment up as it doesn't allow u to concentrate on research!! :P
