Fpm 2013

@nishanta2006 a prof. from IIM-L told me that "the system has full faith in its lineage, and it's just a matter of a few more years behind every IIM.." ... i feel that should answer ur question 😃 Besides, as a researcher, u shall be on ur own...while u would have access to all forms of e-resources, publications, discussions, workshops, seminars & conferences -- hardly any bit beyond all of that can matter much!!
@buffer hey, when do we get the e-offer? I have not received any email yet...any idea?

@nitya.saxena One reason could be availability of rooms. Maybe the PGP batches haven't left for summers yet? BTW: The IIMK letter mentions a written test based on which candidates will be shortlisted for interview. Any idea what that test would be? RAT? Or a subject-based test? Or...?

it may be due to shortage of water as well.. when i went there during april in 2011, we had acute shortage of water ..hence to avoid such hassles for the candidates they may have decide not to give accommodation else it will add more to stress :-)
@AAOne Educational loan without collateral is best taken at start of course. It will be difficult in middle of course after 5 yrs to get a bank loan without guarantors. Almost all PGP students avail bank loan at start of course and they do not get a loan in middle of course in second year. Someone wrote in this forum that completion of FPM is entirely in the hands of Advisory committee and that you cannot put the prefix Dr before your name even after completion of FPM.
@steegala ya legally FPM cannot prefix Dr...as it is equivalent to Doctorate for policy purposes...you become a fellow

Hi! Are u sure abt that... because I have seen many fellows (source:- linkedin) from IIMs and even XLRI use the Dr. prefix
FPM can not write Dr. There is a huge difference due to Dr / FPM. E.g. For securing teaching positions in universities and colleges, UGC mandates that you have a PhD, while private Bschools and even the IIMs will readily appoint both an FPM and a PhD.
This is another pain point of FPM and i fail to understand why this differentiation exists? IIMs are the best and govt approved institutions then how come this UGC comes into picture. In summary, say if you want to become professor in State university for management, you are not eligible even after holding FPM from IIMA, but you become eligible after having PhD from a third tier university / college which gives you Phd (including IGNOU degree)!!

This is really sad state of affairs 😞 I hope the IIM bill due in 2014 will settle this issue.
@caprion @experience123 Did you find this written in any website/manual of any Government body that FPM cannot write 'Dr' before their names?

From what I know, writing 'Dr' in front of someone's name is based on popular practice. There is nothing which bars FPM holders from writing Dr before their name. If you find any information which is contrary to this, please share.

@sb29 - review committee from IIMB has this issue mentioned in their report (2009) . no information available further whether it is fixed or not But as per this report "RC (1991) highlighted that successful candidates were not able to use the prefix 'Dr.'
Also, IIM do not give degree, its classic difference between MBA and PGDM. So, successful candidates can write Fellow but not Dr. if the proposed bill (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Institutes_of_Management is passed then this will be resolved.

Hi Guys ! We just have a week for final ISB result.
Do you have any update?
In the previous batches, have you heard of students getting admit offer without interview?

@experience123 Yes I know of the review committee report. Though I don't doubt the credibility of the report, even the report fails to cite the relevant policy of a government body which talks about the title of Dr. My guess is that due to 'popular perception' or maybe ignorance, people are objecting to the use of 'Dr' by FPM holders. In fact, few years back, physiotherapists faced this problem and it was ruled that even in the medical community there are no clear rules of who can use the title of Dr. Earlier even dentists were not using this title but now they do. It all depends on 'accepted' practice.

Even if there is a policy, then it gets into the fuzzy area of AIU recognition. If AIU is accepting the FPM degree as equivalent to PhD, then maybe you can. It is similar to me using MBA instead of PGDM as AIU says that PGDM from SPJIMR is equivalent to MBA. And then some, doctoral programs are recognized by AICTE. What power does AICTE have in recognition? All this is a huge mess!!

I had discussed this same issue at the beginning of this thread.
@MHV Will ISB send emails exactly on 2nd April only? Or have they started sending out emails to shortlisted candidates? Why are they so secretive? Contact number is 09347056100, in case anyone wishes to contact them.
@sb29 i dont think it matters that much anyway...Dr prefixed or not...it does not undermine the quality of education and research that you can do in IIMs

@nishanta2006
I was told by the admissions office that by 2nd everything will be out.
Other than this I have no other information.
Let us see if the others (tagged in my previous post) have anything fresh...
@MHV
@nishanta2006 no..no updates...just waiting for next week
@AAOne Some people (notably professors) call FPM as Fully Paid Majaa ! 😃
@steegala banks release loan based on the fee structure. Since FPM does not have any fee the banks will not be able to release any loan 😃
@experience123 I am not sure of the source of the info you shared. UGC recognizes FPM as an equivalent of PhD. So there is no bar on FPMs to apply for UGC recognized universities. In fact if you look at the application forms, they say PhD or equivalent. The only bar on FPMs is not to use Dr. as a prefix. However FPM students are free to write Mr. X, Ph.D as a suffix if they crave to declare their educational qualification so much ! 😃

Spoke to ISB at the number I had mentioned in one of my previous posts....for financial economics...if you are shortlisted...you should get an email in next 2 days...else consider yourself rejected...
