Fpm 2013

@caprion omg!! ...no idea -- am too young to comment on that :P
@caprion working spouse is big support! But there are students who have kids and non-working spouse and still managing.
The reality is, life inside a campus/as a student is going to be different from what it used to be on a job. You get less money, you need less money too if you can cut down a bit on comfort/luxury (ok luxury doesnt exist in FPM life :D). You cant invest, you cant save, you may find difficulty in meeting big financial demands (medical emergencies etc. if you dnt have insurance), otherwise one can just manage to live within the fellowship.
Also this acts as motivation to finish your phd soon and start working again :)
But the minute you chose to come back to academics leaving corporate jobs, you know money doent mean much to you!

IIM K has never had any FPM students in Economics, per their website. In fact, too few FPM students overall. Is it worth going all the way there, anyone?

@kartik_ no idea...maybe just the Ops dept is only doing such interviews...
@RD11 ya for emergencies..i think colleges insurance should get you a good coverage..And yes bang on....corporate to academics and you know that money is not the thing you are looking for
@nishanta2006 There is no family accommodation (for FPM) students vacant at the moment. Most of the married people choose to live outside the campus, as there is 7K extra stipend for people staying outside the campus. But some people also get special permission to stay with their spouse in a single room that is usually meant for PGP and FPM single students. However this is seen as a temporary arrangement until they find a flat outside campus.
@preethi1990 in POM 2009 - 2 students, 2010 - 6 students, 2011 - 3 students, 2012 - 2
IS area 2010 - 2 students, 2011 - 3 students, 2012 - 3 students
@nishanta2006 I live outside the campus about 2 Km away and I pay a rent of 10K for a 2BHK. There are 1BHK apartments available in my area for 8K. Only the top end flats (big builders) are very expensive near IIMB. If you look for portions in houses, then they are affordable. But you can't live in posh areas such as Pandurang Nagar, JP Nagar, or Vijaya bank layout, or MICO layout. But areas such BTM 6th phase, Akshay Nagara, Arekere and Hulimavu are affordable. Hope this clarifies.

Any seniors from IIM-Lucknow...???

I find lot of FPM students from ABC helping out prospective fpm students but I cann't find anyone from L.

@nitya.saxena One reason could be availability of rooms. Maybe the PGP batches haven't left for summers yet?
BTW: The IIMK letter mentions a written test based on which candidates will be shortlisted for interview. Any idea what that test would be? RAT? Or a subject-based test? Or...?
@preethi1990 Did they mention a written test in the call letter? Interestingly, my interview is on April 09 not 10.

Can you please share same info for IS?

@haygaurav IS area is there in the above quote na ?

IIMs must allow FPM students to avail a bank loan just as PGP and Exec MBA students. This will also give a buffer beyond 5th year of FPM when there is no stipend.

@RD11 lol...i like whatever u said...but again, all of that could be a matter of perspectives!! u can find ur own ways of minting money ;)
@steegala well, u can decide on that once u reach ur 5th year...only if that becomes necessary!
@maitreya last year they invited a couple of students in that area (5-6 i guess)...none were selected!

I have a question about IIM Rohtak to all people who are currently doing FPM from other IIMs. What are your expectations from/ views on this FPM program from Rohtak?

@cacs I would have accompanied you to Bangalore, but then I didn't get a shortlist at IIM B
@ankur_ibelieve No. You don't come. You are already shortlisted at IIM C. Don't increase competition.
