yes i have - i updated the shared spreadsheet. They have mentioned 8h April as the last date for acceptance of offer. The IIM B interview is before that, I am a bit undecided whether to attend that or not. Any suggestions?
Can any current FPM student at IIMB please share their contact details? I have been selected at IIMA and need to ask a few questions before my IIMB interview.
the acceptance cut off date is very well decided by IIMA 😃 people trying in other IIMs (IIMB and IIML) have to think hard ...what will happen if someone accepts it and then later rejects it and joins some other college.? that will be really cool for IIMA ;-)
@haygaurav - and others..i believe the point is not about being rejected but about the whole process. i didnt find anyone happy at IIMA after CISG interview. that says a lot. when as candidate we try for the indias best college, we have expectation of at least treated fairly and in a way that satisfies both the parties. interview is a SELECTION process and not an ELIMINATION process..its an art..see we all know only 2-3 candidates will be selected per area, however the experience of interview is counted (as in normal PGP thread, about interview experience many felt really happy)..thats the crux of it!
@glock hey - which field have you been selected in at iima?
seniors can you please share any thought on fpm at iim a vs iim b? current students any insiders perspective? i guess most important question would be which colleges faculty is more responsive to the fpm students needs/ aspirations?
current students can give you insiders perspective only on one of the institute 😁 that leaves the job of comparison to you only.
IIMB FPM is more structured and focused. Unlike all other IIMs where FPMs spend one year doing PGP courses, at IIMB you start FPM courses from day 1. But I heard IIMA is going to follow the same pattern soon enough, may be this yr or next year onwards. One more difference: IIMA hirs their own FPMs for faculty position soon after they graduate, at IIMB it is strict rule that no IIMB FPMs can apply for faculty positions unless they spend minimum 2 yrs in some other jobs after their FPM, this is to avoid inbreeding and to break the student-teacher relation between you and your guide and make you both like collegues and not one boss of the other. Other than that everything else would be more or less same for both A & B, and even C.
Few things to consider while deciding which place to join -
1. Specialization area: Is a particular IIM actively doing research in that specialization? Look for the how many and what kind of students have been taken in a particular area, what the faculties are working on, are they publishing and where, what other research activities they organize (doctoral colloquium, seminars, research workshops etc.).
2. Your specific research interests: This might change during the first 2 yrs. Still look for faculty with matching interest. Guides do play very important role, and your research interest MUST match that of a professor. Look at their profiles, where they did their phd, how active they are in research etc. This will have significant effect on the quality of your thesis and your future employment prospects.
3. Hometown proximity/other location preference: FPM is a long duration program (4-5 yrs) and most of us have some kind of responsibilities towards family etc. Cost of living is another consideration as you would have to manage with a fellowship that would be really less compared to your previous salaries.
4. If you are an IIM alumnus, A and C gives you waiver in coursework. B does not. Here all courses are compulsory no matter where you come from. However if you think you already know a particular subject well enough, you can apply for a 'challenge exam' and if get waiver if you pass it. So A and C gives an option of finishing you faster in that sense, and B does not.
@experience123 May be I am not the right person to ask....:)...since we are all sailing the same boat...but yes...I had kept A at the top....rest all probably not much to choose from...but again...maybe I am talking from a PGP perspective...FPM is a different ball game all together...for e.g....people have told me that research wise...B and C are better than A..so take your call
@nishanta2006 agree with you..this FPM looks to me like harry potter now..no body bloody hell knows exactly what it is and how it works - from selection to the end ;-)
The alumni in the area of finance is weaker at A as compared to B and C...simply because they have not taken too many ppl in the last 4 years for finance...that automatically makes them slightly disadvantaged in terms of research base, publications etc...BUT.....
it is IIM A....super brand of India....so not so easy to let it go....:D

unless inspired by 'dare to think beyond...." by *chotiwala* marketer!
Also read somewhere that IIMB has recruited many foreign-trained PhDs over the last few years. So, the doctoral students can get involved in high quality research projects with these faculty members which is not possible at any other IIM.
I have always held the opinion that B has the best FPM program among all IIMs
@sb29 I don't know about the other streams but ya IIM B does have a good fpm program for information systems. I have browsed their site and they give emphasis on teaching information systems courses from the business management perspective. On the other hand, when i looked at IIM A information systems program for fpm, they have the same courses being taught in the second year of fpm which one would do during a M.Tech in computer science program ... i m not against IIMA or something but i just want to stress the point that if one is doing fpm in management from a top tier management institute then the emphasis should be more on technology from a business or management perspective rather than on teaching the same computer science courses again ... although i didn't got call from IIM B IS and got rejection after interview from IIM A CISG ...
