Football Club -- Part Deux

"Yes, Kuipers got the big call wrong. Regardless of what Alessandro Nesta did, Sergio Busquets and Carles Puyol committed fouls, too. But you are giving the referee an opportunity to award a penalty when you do what Nesta did.

Whether penalties are given 0.1 or 99.9 per cent of the time for such offences, the laws of the game state that tugging of the shirt should result in a free kick given. If Kuipers doesn't see what Busquets and Puyol cleverly did, he can't award Milan a free kick. But he saw a fair old clutch of Busquets' shirt bundled in the fist of Nesta.

That Nesta committed such a cardinal sin is a huge surprise. It is not enough to say "these decisions are not normally given" because the rule book states that it's a foul. Committing the offence invites the referee to award a penalty, especially after much of Barca's post-first leg talk had been about two penalty decisions that didn't go their way. Things like that stay in officials' minds.

You can stand and argue about it all you want after the fact, but it cost Milan a potential semi-final place, and Nesta had fallen for the oldest trick in the book to world football's biggest sneak.

The Rossoneri should not have expected any favours. They did, but those favours never arrived."

Even though I am a Barca fan, I could not help but liking this post.

Eagerly waiting for the semi final now. Also, the el clasico in between the semi finals on 22nd, it just couldn't get any better. Both Barcelona and Madrid will look to rotate some players but then it is the champions league semis, not an easy option.

hope barca get crucified at stamford bridge

Tottenham draws...chelsea wins..again torres assist

30 minutes into the match...zaragoza leads barca 1-0
could have been easily 2-0...didn't convert a penalty

dhakan valdes se bhi penalty save karwa di
valdes to aisa goalie hai ki uski team jo us tak ball hi nahi aane deti(possesion hin itna rakhti hai),10 mein se ek aati hai us par aur use bhi nikal deta hai
aur goal ho jata hai

common zaragoza beat barca or atleast draw to kar hi do

Why is it that team playing well against barca end up with 10 men always???
Again,Referee didn't give penalty to zaragoza

I know you guys hate barca a lot, but posts here are degrading a lot these days IMO. Dhakan Valdes? Read earlier somewhere taklu valdes as well? Didn't know we can post stuff like that here.
And how many of Barca games have you seen to judge Valdes? He is one of the best when it comes to one on one situations.
And teams try to kick barca out of the game. That's the reason they get down to 10 men. A few incidents like the RVP one I agree were absolutely disgraceful but trust me, there have been numerous decisions that go against Barca as well. It's just because Barca end up winning, they go unnoticed. Stop judging barca on what Mourinho and English media says.

And have seen quite a number of posts regarding the earlier chelsea-barca game. I agree that maybe chelsea had 2 or 3 legimate penalty calls. But on the other hand, Barca had decisions gone against them as well which you guys conveniently forget. Puyol had a yellow which ruled him out from second leg, Messi had a penalty claim from Ballacks handball, Ballack had a bad tackle on Iniesta and he was on a yellow already and the ridiculous sending off of Abidal with no contact whatsoever on Anelka. Barca played the last 30 mins or so with 10 men..and were knocked out of the game hadn't Iniesta scored in dying minutes. So as you guys claim if refs favored barca, such situation would never had arise. Why was Abidal sent off?
Here are a couple of gifs to support my claim. http://imgon.net/di-8WOK.gif, http://imgon.net/di-DMLS.gif

On the other hand, I do agree that Barca are at fault themselves. The hounding around the ref, the simulation from Alves and Busquets need to be stopped. The refs are human and they should be allowed to judge the game without any pressure whatsoever in huge games. But statements like " ref hand over the CL to barca yet UEFA turns a blind eye to it" are totally uncalled for. The numerous fouls, on and off the ball bad tackles against Barca go unnoticed, which should be considered as well (referring to Ramos, Arbeloa, Pepe in classicos the game by far people judge Barca a lot).

P.S. Sorry for the long post. No offense to anyone whatsoever. Just too much negativity against Barca in last many pages, and IMO they dont deserve so. I understand the hatred but the conspiracy theories are way out of context.

P.P.S. I know I am risking groans here, which I am usually very careful about. You guys can come up with some argument against the post if you don't agree, so we can have some healthy discussion on this thread rather than just plain rants at other clubs, players and fans.
Peace.

Can't remember Abidal pulling Anelka's shirt in the box before that incident. Can you provide a video or something for the same? If it's Drogba you are talking about, I shouldn't be the one probably to 'go watch the match and then come'.
Assuming it's the Drogba incident you are talking about, well yes there was a pull off shirt and possibly a penalty. But Drogba did made most of that and went down easily. The way Drogba was behaving in that game is the reason you guys hate Alves and Busquets and hence Barca these days for. He had a reputation for going down way too easily and making meal of most of the things. Plus the constant whining didn't help him either. Ah, and sending off for that? Well probably not. A lot of such decisions go either way. My point was, decisions had gone against both sides mate. The ref was absolutely pathetic in that match. No question about that. But over the two legs it wasn't that all decisions had gone in Barca's favor as you guys claim.

If Chelsea would have come out winner in that tie, it would probably have been Barca who would have came out complaining on and on for that tie.

Man United wins 2-0 against QPR:)
But,QPR got robbed of their captain due to a wrong red card and penalty given by referee.:nono:
It's high time that referral system to be introduced in football with so many referees giving wrong decisions.

Also, it will end barca's free falling football domination and red cards for teams playing against them.

Time for gunners to gun down man city and cement their position, so as to qualify for champions league next season.:)

Yeah my bad!!! even i dnt blame barca for ref's decision but the ref's play a big hand winning them european glory!! they dnt fully earn it through their merit..

Barca didn't even have a shot on goal before the Iniesta's stunner.
Sometimes, in champions league best team do not win.
Chelsea deserved to win that year.

Coming back to valdes, i have seen barca play so many times.I have be following them since 2006(not regularly though, regularly since last season).
There are so many far better goal keepers than Valdes, i have seen him make mistake many-2 times.
He is special kind of goal keeper who let pass the only single ball that comes to him out of 10 times and barca concedes a goal.

Hmmm agree with you.... all the top teams get decisions in their favor, specially in home matches.... chelsea shouldn't have won the match either... their 1st goal was a blatant offside...:nono:

between one step closure to the title and coupled with an arsenal win the title will be all but ours...

p.s..... looks like everybody wants a real barca final, just hoping that bayern and chelsea have something to say about that:grin:
Dibya Dreams Says
:

Yeh an arsenal win..... never before have i been so happy before seeing them win

Bring home Title no 20.... hope we win it at the ethihad in a fortnight ... will be awsome to rub it on citeh faces

city's millions might get them an entry into a top 4.... but to win the league you have to do much more than that...

as for Man Utd, a good season considering all the injury woes.... a few good additions next season specially in midfield and real, barca will not be that far off:biggrin:

p.s........To city who thought that money can buy everything

(︶︿︶) u cant buy Glory.

While the title is already decided in EPL...Man United will win:grin:

Title race in La Liga is getting hot->hotter->hottest

Real Madrid vs Valencia(0-0),lead cut down to just 4 points
Looks like El Clasico will pretty much decide the title here

PS:can any one tell me why do mourinho plays ozil every single match and then has to substitute him.:sneaky::sneaky:
He doen't play KAKA who has looked fitter, sharper and better like his the old Kaka of AC Milan.
He is trusting too much faith in that chooza ozil which will sink his ship midway.

PPS: Ronaldo is no way near majestic Messi.Just tries to get free kick and penalties and misses goals. Then acts like referee has done some crime and how could he miss that as if he is the king of football.
Maybe he doesn't know that Messi is the God of football.

PPPS: I still hate barca very much and their antics.

Start of the season we were down in 16th place.. 12 games in, 1/3rd season over, we were languishing in mid table.. finally started putting some wins together and moved up to 6th.. 4th seemed liked a possibily now. Cantain Fantastic RVP rallies his troops and leads by example. Arsenal up to 4th, goal difference from chelsea and 3rd placed Spuds some 12 points away.
Arsenal put their heads down and keep chippin in hard fought 1-0 wins.. a weakness since the last 3-4 years, holding on to a 1 goal lead.
In between came great comebacks like 5-2 against spuds.

Finally now running strong in 3rd and this win against city showed everyone what this team is capable of. Absolutely ripped them apart in the first half. hit the post thrice and an absolute ripper from Arteta.

ARSENAL, a team everyone counted out, laughed at, mocked at the start of the season.. has shown its true character. NO, we are not going to be the champions. But tell you what, this is the mark of great teams.. rise up and march on. I kno people will say trophies et al, but if we are finally 3rd, i would be no less happy than United fans, who in all probability are going to be champions.

Proud of you ARSENAL. You did play like champions this season.
In ARSENE we trust. :cheerio:

Few weeks back, there was a change at the top of EPL with United overtaking City.
This past weekend saw a change at the top of Serie A, with Juventus overtaking Milan.

Will we see a change at the top of La Liga? Quite possible, with just a 4 point difference between Barca and Madrid, and the game at Nou Camp still left.
