Football Club -- Part Deux

Lolz..Nostalgia..i still remeber the match when Maradona throws all his stikers to knock down germans in WC quarterfinal in final 20 minutes..Aguero,messi,higuain,tevez,pastore all playing together with milito waiting:biggrin:
And for the channge i feel messi play good in setpieces in that match if not for superb double marking by khedeira and bastian...

The problem with messi and argentina is you produce world class attacking line up with no back up whatso ever..an ever so sure Juan veron kind of player would have made much difference to that side..

Regarding messin playing in epl...well how much england and english players have gained by playing there:biggrin:..if one cant win with Beckham Gerrard lampard rooney , ferdinand, walcott and the list continues with tonnes of epl experience...Then exactly where would have these kind of players should go to take england atleast to semis of some big event:)

..German league seems not so glamourous and when germany plays..there football becomes all about move passes attack destroy and back to defend sort of football...Fluid and no 30-40 yard glamourous thunderbolts..happy with uncool headers from klose and mueller and perfect machine like efficiecy like BMW

Im sure u must have seen silva of today & silva of 2 years ago see till the time messi doesnt prove himself at epl he would falter at big tournaments & about epl stars like stevie g,walcott, rooney in england squad u have got so much of stars that a team cannot be managed easily
+all of us have seen lamoard+gerrad playing so badly that it effects the team performance at big tournament 2012 euro england are one of the favourties and they may win because of young+energetic england filled with leseer stars.
Bhai first of all congrats for NITIE convert Great work .

Coming to Inter , i seriously dont understand why Mourinho is to be blamed for this . He made the team win everything his last season . He saw a bigger challenge and offer at Real Madrid . So he moved . I wonder whats wrong . If Inter did so well under him and they are not able to perform well under other managers , its not his mistake . With Chelsea as well , Mourinho cant be blamed . Abrahimovic is very impatient . Thats why he keeps playing manager manager .

Anyways big fixture tonight. Benfica...... Go Blues Go

What's wrong is buying players who are at their peak, making them work their socks off and not planning for future while building a team. Mourinho as good as he might be, never stays at a club when it's in troubled times. And any new manager needs atleast a couple of years to rebuild from what he leaves behind. Neither does he cares about clubs future. And please don't give me Ozil and Khedira, we'll see how long they'll stay at madrid once Mou leaves. Never seen many academy players getting promoted under him. No doubt players love playing for him, he has this aura and ability to make the players and fans love him, albeit the others hate him a lot.

Oh God! Messi is best player currently on the planet by miles, whether you agree or not. Either you would be really jealous, or you hate him and maybe you like Ronaldo, hence the biased opinion. And why should a player play in EPL to prove himself? Isn't champions league a big stage? :-O FYI, there is just one team left from EPL in that competition. And the seventh team in Liga has completely dominated and had eliminated the current EPL champions and league leaders if am not wrong. And Messi has been brilliant for argentina as well. BEfore you say he needs Xavi, Iniesta behind him, just check out the goals and the play he creates sitting deep behind plus the number of assists he has to his name.
Just because Sachin has scored his 100th ton against Bangladesh doesn't make him any of a lesser great than he is. Same applies to Messi.

And which big International team doesn't have a star studded side? Spain can easily build a second team which will give the others a run for their money. Oh, and wonder why people still want Torres in such a side? There are players like Soldado/ Llorente who can easily fill in that striker's role. Plus the lesser we talk about the no. of midfielders, the better.

Common, Mourinho is a great leader. His built teams from nothing at porto, chelsea and inter. He left chelsea because of roman ibrahmovich who don't know a shit about football.Chelsea team which he built did well even after he left and was a force to reckon with.Carlo ancelotti was also doing a good job(chelsea won league by record breaking goal scoring season).Regarding Real Madrid, it's a club we all know spends huge amount of money.

Yeah, mourinho loves money too but without buying some players, trophies can not be delivered in 1 or 2 seasons.Just take the case of arsenal and manU, they were not successful in europe.I mean arsene and fergie are great managers but sometimes you have to invest in players for that extra boost. Arsene was the first manager to modify the traditional 4-4-2(during early 2000) into the way arsenal play such lively football.

Thanks !! yes just got it today !!

I agree that at Chelsea the owner pokes his nose into transfers which interferes with the coach's vision for building a solid team. and it gets more awkward when the expensive players turn out to be misfits who fail to perform.
But there is also the point that mou makes player purchases without long term thinking. he gets the instant success and glory and leaves at the sign of trouble, while the next coach is left picking up the pieces, as is the case with Inter.

It's true that EPL is hardly a gauge for a striker's talent. In fact a striker would flourish more in a team with a solid midfield like spain or germany. the European stage is a much better place to test a footballer's mettle, a stage where epl teams have faltered severely this year, but where spanish teams are in the majority......
the argument that a striker is only as good as his midfield is moot because it's a given that without control in the midfield a striker cannot do his job.....

Benfica 0 - 1 Chelsea

APOEL 0 - 3 Real Madrid

Congrats to Chelsea, perhaps there will be an epl team in the last 4 after all...

Madrid....as expected....

AC Milan hods off Barca:grin:
Now they just need a goal draw in second leg to eliminate barca

Bayern ringing the semifinal doorbell:biggrin:

Madrid weren't able to break APOEL till Kaka came on and now they can concentrate on the league game against osasuna who beat barca 3-2

ps: mukulspock congrats

^^ Thanks Mojo !!

Yea AC Milan held off Barca last night......they barely saw the ball themselves.....but the most disappointing thing was the missed chances on both sides....

Robinho missed one of the easiest volleys of his life in the 3rd minute, and then deeper into the first half, Ibra found himself almost 1 on 1 with Valdes and did nothing more than to tuck the ball into Valdes' hands....

Barca had an effort ruled offside (correctly so)
Then there were the denied penalties....Sanchez was blatantly brought down by Abbiati, who made contact only with the striker as the ball was nowhere close...in another case, Puyol's shirt was clearly tugged in the area, right in front of referee Erikkson who chose to ignore it outright....

If it had to be a draw it should have been 1 - 1 or 2 - 2.....not 0 - 0
i guess this time, Barca is the one left grumbling about the ref... :sneaky:

that said, Barca can easily overcome Milan at Camp Nou next week, they just need to get their defense together....

Didnt see the Bayern match as i was pulling my hair out watching Barca

But the report says a blunder from the goalee and a suspicious handball led to a Gomez goal in the 44th minute. And later Arjen Robben added the second, a cleaner curling finish, in the 69th minute....

Bastian Schweinstieger got booked, will miss second leg
but, ok, Bayern are not exactly in trouble, second leg should be a calm walkthrough for them.....

Dude i understand you supporting a particular club and hence having a biased opinion, but how on earth was that a penalty. Infact Sanchez should clearly have been booked for diving. Anyone who knows even a bit about football, would know the difference between brought down and a dive. And that's what i hate the most about barca. Even sanchez has learnt those antics now. Probably they have some sort of diving sessions or sumthing.

Anyways u go back and look at the highlights now.. probably then you'll realize what they mean by 'contact'...!!!!! Cheers.

^^^

i saw the match live and the replays, and my impression is that Abbiati did not have a chance of catching the ball and he straightforwardly tripped Sanchez....

anyways, this is my personal opinion, will not argue on it....

Now i'll just hope Barca will beat Milan 4-0 at Camp Nou

@stilhope : yes barca players do dive, take for eg. alves, busquets, pedro to name a few. Unfortunately sanchez has started doing that sometimes. He should follow messi, whom i haven't seen diving ever.

BUT that yesterday it was a penalty because abiate did made contact(anyways sanchez wasn't going to reach the ball).Ref. choose the option of not giving the penalty.

Both sides yesterday missed chances.I hope second leg won't be without goals

ps: hoping a goal draw and barca is eliminated:biggrin:

:sneaky: is there no one supporting Barca ??? :w00t:

Dude I am not a Barca fan but must admit they didnot desreve a draw against AC Milan...
AC Milan survived by the skin of their teeth...But thats the way it is...AC Milan actually could have had their noses in front in just about 3 rd minute and the scenario cpuld have been different...having said Heading towards Nou Camp AC Milan will be biting their nails and hoping that they are not rolled over..

Barca all the way, amazing this thread harbours such misconceptions about Barca, their style of play etc. No wonder it is full of EPL maniacs who can't see a thing beyond the top4(maybe 5) in England, nobody here praises about the classic traditional free flowing Soccer that Barca plays, Soccer is much more than typical chips and crosses and occasional screamers here and there, what I feel is that people only keep on harping about the past, diving, fake injuries, blah-2, which team doesn't? just because it came in news once or twice people have formed an unshakable opinion about it, ok, players like Busquets overdoes his acting exploits and has many a times given a bad name to Barca, agreed ,but one needs to understand the finer aspects of Barca's Soccer, its ideology, the youth academy grooming almost every present player( a big achievement in itself), Johan cryuff's dream team and its freakishly similar style of play, this Barca team has lots and lots of flair and will go places and if one doesn't agree on that then he/she is high on life....

I agree barcelona is probably the best team in the world right now along with Real. Their possession football is also mostly good to watch. The team might be going places but sure doesnt justify this

The Real Barcelona - Diving and Cheating - Feroze - YouTube

They have perfected the art of getting players sent off.

Dude, that was funnny, lol, wish much research was carried out about "potentially" biased refreeing in EPL too (a la Howard Webb), to give us similar hilarious videos..

Hilarious video Indeed...but still must give in to the fact that they are the Best Team on the Planet

The Best Part of the Video was the Dani Alves incident...He should be nominated for the Oscars!!

I will put the above words as follows-

Milan stopped Barca from scoring. Yeah , I agree the 1st half belonged to Barca. Every one in Barca was perfect , but Milan held on.

Remember - No Silva & Pato !!

But in the 2 nd half , Milan were more aggressive.

The main positive point for Milan is that they stopped the world's best attack and thus saved the crucial AWAY GOAL which could have spoiled Milan from progressing.

Now in the second leg , Milan just need a scoring draw but it will be very difficult !!

True the best team in the world by some distance. They were my second team for most of early 2000s till 2 years back when Cesc incident happened. Since am a gooner so started hating them since. The days of Etoo ronaldinho etc were like awesome.

PS- A similar video was put up by Real madrid on their official website 😁
