Financial Risk Manager [FRM] by GARP

Has anybody got the Schweser Q bank for level 2 FRM. According to the
what the xerox guy says he hasn't received it from Schweser. I got mine from
Churchgate, Mumbai

Objective of Schweser Notes is to give a brief about the core syllabus without going into too much nitty-gritty. To get more detailed understanding of any particular topic, try to pick up Core Readings.

The MCQs at the end of the each chapter in Schweser are grossly below level - do not test your understanding by that measure. There is even a lot of difference between the Practice Tests by Schweser and by GARP.

I suggest - try to go for Core Readings where you want better depth. Stay close to Schweser or BT where your knowledge is already good and also keep on practicing from Tests and the KB.

Hope this helps

Hi,

I have read the Schweser but when I try to solve the question paper, I am finding the level to be much higher than what I expected while I was reading the material.

Is their any other material you would recommend which would help me cope with the difficulty level of question papers? Or do you think I should go back and read schweser again.

Please give some tips for me to be exam ready. I will not have much time after march to put in for FRM apart from weekends.

Thanks.

Hi folks,

When i'm trying to use the lock lizard file, i'm told that i cannot access it unless i've purchased any of the readings from the GARP offerings. I've purchased the schweser and core both from Laxmi copy centre and these past papers arent available in any such centers (have inquired everywhere including the frm coaching classes). They all have other moct tests and test series but not the authentic FRM papers of past years.
If anyone knows, pls inform me, from where to get these past papers.
Thanks

I keep getting mails from finsstructor. But initially thought that I will cover the topics by myself first from schweser book as I am not from finance background.
I will check with them...
However , is it possible to complete the stuffs by self study in 2 months - thats my questions is precisely? Can you pls chek with your friend?

Is some book seller (Om, Laxmi, Mahakali) giving the FRM Level 2 quicksheet, a summarised note on major things to focus on at the last moment. I got it last year for Level 1 from Laxmi but this time no quicksheet. Does someone has one?

Send me a PM

Hi Leolazer,

I am taking my L1 in May 2012...currently, I have Schweser notes and GARP provided sample exam...As mentioned in one of the post by someone that it looks insufficient...How about taking mock online test and question bank to supplement the material and preparations?

I am also appearing for Actuarial exams in Apr / May - CT2 (Financial Mathematics) and CT8 (Economics) and there is a lot of confusion as these exams are quite in depth and the FRM is pretty broad and on a higher abstraction level...

Anyway... I am only looking for Qbank as I dont have time for another material and cant attend any crash course as I am currently not based out of a city...the choice is between Fin instructor and Pristine...any suggestions on which one to go for?

Thanks in advance...

I did not opt for any of these two QB, so do not have first-hand experience, however, I have heard that the Pristine QB is good. Maybe someone else can pitch in with more info.

I would rather suggest going in for previous years FRM papers (the few available in the Handbook CD), GARP previous years practice papers, schweser sample papers and Handbook questions. BT also has a good bank of questions (though currently not in the form of a QB).

If even after this, you have time / need for any other QB - maybe you can go for something else.

One quick ques here (Feel free not to reply in the public forum if the answer is private) - Are you opting for Indian or UK actuary? And if you are already a Actuary in making, why are you opting for FRM...Actuary focuses on Insurance while FRM focuses on Banking / IB.

Hi Leolazer,

thanks for your reply... As suggested, I will surely go through all material available freely on the internet (hopefully!!)..

I am appearing for actuarial exams from both UK and Indian societies - depending on difficulty level of that particular exam.....

Well, the core stream of an actuary is indeed insurance (life and non life), but if you look at other areas where actuarial hopefuls can make their careers are Pension and Benefits / back office for US and UK actuarial firms, Auditing, Risk Management and certain areas of Financial Management. Risk management is good career option for an actuary - In fact, the society of actuaries have their own program called CERA - Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary

CERA - Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary qualification The Actuarial Profession

and also If I become certified FRM, I will get one of the exam exempted from the Specialist Technical Series (ST), known as ST0:

Exemption based on other professional qualifications The Actuarial Profession

I opted for FRM to,

1) Create differentiation with other fellow actuarial hopefuls, as it is very easy to find people with good progress in their actuarial exams in the job market (as many as 7-8 exams cleared, but with no work experience).

2) Chalk out newer areas to shape my career in...all my experience has been in Pensions and Benefit consulting work...

I hope this helps and apologies for an off-topic rant...

Very useful post. Thank You.
I suggest you start a thread on Actuary interests (if it already does not exist).

I see your point that Actuary and FRM has synergies.

Let me know if you need any help and do keep in touch.
