well Mr bestbet, i will recommend you to read early post in this forum. there are some nice post where a comparison is drawn between FRM and CFA. In short, FRM is strictly related to risk management, u can think of getting profile like treasury, forex, derivatives after getting FRM on the other hand CFA is much broader and is considered a desirable certificate for people in the field of investment banking, equity research and is also helpful for treasury, risk management role.

Its not necessary to buy books from GARP. If you can study from schweser then there is no need to buy books from GARP.
Hi I am appearing for CFA level-2 on June 3, 2012. I wanted to know if I can sit for FRM level-1 which is there on May 19, 2012. 1. Is there enough time for preparing for both ?? I guess I can dedicate around 25-30 hrs a week for studies. 2. Also, would there be any overlapping syllabus ??
Is it necessary to join a classes or tuition for frm. I want sit for frm part 1 in may and I working. So would I be able to pass it without classes. And about study material do i really need to go through the suggested books or just swcheser will do.
Happy New Year Guys, any idea at what time will FRM results be out on 4th January.
@niks The result normally is available at GARP site (you have to log in) around 10.30 p.m. IST or after, not in any case before 6.30 pm IST (rarely before 10.30 p.m.) due to the time difference. Since 2009 it has been available rather late ! But in most cases the email is received by 6.30 p.m. to midnight IST on the date of result announcement. Wish you all the best .....
On GARP website, it is mentioned that candidates should have min 2 yrs work-ex in financial sector. Currently I do not have any work-ex but i am planning to enroll for part 1 on May 2012. Can i give the exam without prior work-ex??

Yes you can give both level 1 and level 2 without prior work-ex. You will get FRM degree only after you have cleared both the levels and has 2 years of work-ex
