look friend......i m also from public sector bank. Risk management has a wider scope in public sector banks due to its varied advance portfolio. your own bank will offer u a position in its RM dept. dnt think abt salary n other things.....it depends on various factors. risk will be the cream profile in all banks....so stop worrying.

1. Why not think abt salary???afterall everyone works for money.
Salary offered in public sector banks is horrible.
2. Risk Mgmt no doubt is a gud profile but there are very few ppl working in this deptt due to lesser requirement. So scope is very less compared to credit appraisal wich is done in all branches of all banks.Risk mgmt is done only in zonal or regional offices.
hey m from chennai

well i know salary depends on various factors, but the thing is do banks allow newly recruited po's to work in the risk management dept as a trainee with no prior w.ex in it (risk management)...i ask it because suppose i complete my FRM but i gain no practical experience in risk management dept . ,i would say my entire money would go in waste...because practical w.ex matters much more than theoretical knowledge and also it holds good in future...please do give your opinions...FRM course would just give me theoretical knowledge but working in risk management dept. along with studying for FRM would be the most beneficial (i guess)..looking forward to a few suggestions...

1. FOR PSU BANKS -Sorry but the answer is NO. As a PO , u will be given general banking stuff. That may involve sales and marketing also. Chances of a PO getting risk mgmt straight away are 1 out of 100. Reason is that MBAs also join banks at the same time. MBAs from top notch colleges are most likely to get gud profiles. FRM is unknown to many PSU bankers still today.
2. FOR PRIVATE BANKS - YES. Gud chances if u r done wid both levels of FRM.
SUGGESTION - Nothing goes waste . Do FRM. Get into ANY bank . If private gud if PSU then use it as a platform to build ur skills and finally try to get into a private / foren bank where u will be made to work hard but will be rewarded as well.

For a person not working after passing the FRM exams he wont get the certification unless he has 2 years of relevant experience. So what would you suggest a new undergrad pursuing masters like me to do?? After passing FRM would i be able to get a relevant job in India or else where...and get the official certification after the two years??

No one can say that FRM WILL get u a job...it just will increase ur chances.
MY OPINION : First go for MBA from top 30 instt...then an FRM will definitely put u in a very very strong position. So MBA first then FRM.
Guys tell me one thing, I am planning to give FRM level1 & Level2 this november. Will I be able to deffer Level 2 exam only depending on my preparation status.
Also if I clear level 1 but not be able to clear level 2 do I need to give level 1 exam again?
I have cleared CFA L1 and is it worth giving FRM?
Hi Niks,
Even I am going through same delimmea of the possibility of giving FRM 1 & 2 in Nov. I have gone thorugh FRM 1 syllabus but I felt it is bit tough to manage both with quality learning. Regarding deferal I sent a mail to GARP confirming that and they said you can defer it to May 2012 only. The issue is you cannot defer it to May because that time you will be preparing for CFA L2.
Hope it helps....
