Guys does FRM require work experience ?? can freshers do it too ??

hi!

Can anyone help me out in deciding which classes are good for FRM part 1 IIQF or Pristine. I plan to join the same in Mumbai.

Any feedback would be of great help.

Thanks.

Nope, u don't need work experience for taking FRM exam. Freshers can do it after graduation. But u will need prescribed work experience after passing d exam to get FRM degree. 😃

so if i clear the exam without having work ex i wont get anything ??? sometimes the degree can get you work in the field itself coz i have seen the list and not all professions are accepted as work ex

Nope, if u clear exam , u will get the mark sheet and what employers want is mark sheet. The experience will come in the mean time. And hence the degree. Its just that u cant add FRM after ur name till u get the required experience. Barring this restriction , U r as good as FRM after passing the exam.

Wen i inquired abt the same question to few industry persons ie. abt placement scenarios in india, I was told that only FRM may not add too much value. But if accompanied with CA or CFA or MBA from decent school, its certainly is of very much use. The exam has 2 levels . Yes , one can give both exams at one time or can give seprately. But if u give both on same day, u hv to clear 'both levels' simultaneously, otherwise u hv to take both papers again.

Aha..well this course sounds promising.. will it be managable to give it while doing an mba ?? also you said there are 2 levels so if we have give them sepratelly what is the time gap between 2 exams ??

and have u applied for frm ?? or given exam ?

really appreciate you answering my queries

It depends on person to person. If one is to give 2 exams seprately , I think it is on easier side. Though cost of a simultaneous exam is less. But i would advice to give the exam 1 by 1 if one is doin MBA also. The next exam is in november last week. The exams happen in May and November each year. ie. After 6 months each. For info on exam details , u can look at the website of GARP.
I cleared both levels last november. So will get the degree only after completing relevant Workex.
And yes , its one of the best course in market given its length.

Hi ABCLIKS,

I have a few questions i'd like to ask about FRM, and have PM'd them to you.
Please do respond, thanks..

Rajiv

Folks you may want to take a look at http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/prep-resources/41419-cfa-level-1-june-2010-a-64.html#post1994142, and the prev post by Darius.
People have been asking questions as to where should I see myself after clearing these exams etc etc.
Please realize that CFA,FRM etc are not entrance exams. If you look at their history, you will realize that they were introduced as judgment of higher standards in the IB,Credit,Risk management industries.
Senior folks who have been working in these industries for some time took these exams to demonstrate to their clients that they had gained an understanding of solutions to most of their future financial needs.
If you research a bit at monster/naukri or the job portals of these IBs,you will realize that only an M.B.A from top notch BSchools are recruited as part of their drives.
A normal grad who has cleared any of these exams is not what they look for[ even if they hire you you'll be doing an internship kind of a job Read: Data feeding, preparing XLS sheets]
Globally if you observe, and I wont be exaggerating when I say this almost 90% of these decision making jobs go to either M.B.As from top notch BSchools or Math,Stat grads from top notch Grad Schools[IITians in India are an example].
The IB front offices which have now started developing in India are mainly for Sales, which as we all know is something better learnt at a BSchool.

I am aware that the motive of this forum is the glorification of CAT,M.B.A etc. and most recently these exams, hence I advice you to think prudently.
Finally realize that CFA,FRM are charters unlike an M.B.A which is a degree [observe the dots].
As always, goes my usual disclaimer: I am just opining, variations to above are possible.

Hi Every1.

I am having BT (Bionic Turtle) Level 1 Notes with me for November 2010 exam.
