FRM is a valuable certification..you will definitely get decent roles (like rish analyst, bonds analyst etc) after completing FRM..

maybe you will get into neither types..
Companies like CRISIL, CARE take people with FRMs for their bond ratings business (neither sell side nor buy side)....
other than you can get into advisory roles in banks in treasuries. you might be advising which bonds to buy and other similar roles...
I have no clue as to how FRM can help one on the selling side..
Hi Puys,
I am getting into a nice MBA programme this year.Along with that,i am looking for the option of having FRM or CFA as well.
I wanted to know the difference between these two certifications as well as the career path they offer.
I am having a 2.75 years of experience in IT and thinking of having finance and marketing as specialization.
Please provide a detailed analysis if possible.
Thanks,
CAn anyone tell me the difference in the career paths offered by FRM and CFA? If possible, someone please post the links of the curriculum of CFA and FRM ..thanks in advance

Some interesting points from the above article:
While CFA has got no direct competition from any other charter, FRM has a direct competition from Professional Risk Manager.
"In many cases, the CFA has more perceived value that an average Finance MBA (unless the Finance MBA is earned from a globally prestigious school)." (direct quote)
"Organizationally, the CFA Institute is bigger and more mature than GARP; conversely, GARP is growing faster" (another direct quote)
Hello,
CFA is a like some kind of extra cirricular activity. Student who is more inclined towards Equity Research, Equity Analyst, Portfolio Manager and more inclusively I-Bankers, shud prefer CFA. It add value to ur CV and increase ur knowledge pool.
Thanks,
Harry

CFA is more suited for equity analyst type roles, while FRM is more geared towards Treasury Management side.
FRM is quite treasured nowadays in the wake of the subprime crisis and the numerous other blips
In fact there are now roles(obv in Risk division) especially for FRM charterholders. They make the natural first choice.
My suggestion: Do both.
CFA + FRM is a killer combination and I speak from experience from the B-school and Job interviews

see frm and prm are highly specialized courses, do them only if you want a career in risk management. on the other cfa is a bit diversified but cfa level 1 syllabus is same as what u learn in mba finance. but if u want to be a investment analyst or something related to that do cfa.
for the fees you can easily take the help of google.
cfa has 3 levels, frm has 2 levels and prm has 4 exams
all of them are good, best combination is do frm/prm and cfa, killer combo

thanks alot .but whats the difference between frm,prm and which course to prefer out of these 2.
Among FRM and PRM , i will certainly go for FRM, its more recognised.
sach10 Saysthanks alot .but whats the difference between frm,prm and which course to prefer out of these 2.
ya its true that frm is more widely recognised because PRM started in 2002 afaik but the course content of both the exams are same. The advantages prm have is, you can give the exams anytime u wish and its much cheaper than frm
