Financial Risk Manager [FRM] by GARP

Hi Guys,

I am looking to appear for FRM L1 in Nov10, can someone please advise how to prepare for all the probability problems mainly VAR and quants as i do not find solved problems specified anywhere.

Is Pristine and schweser good to both understand and practice the problems?

And Is it really possible to crack the exam only by core readings and schweser? or need to join Pristine considering shortage of time? (only weekends time and can have 15 days before exam?)

hey puys i need a bit of help. i was thinking of writing cfa level 1 but now i ahve changed my mind towards frm level 1 nov 20. 2010. now afaik frm doesnt provide any study material within the registration and test fee unlike cfa. so where do i prepare from? schweser notes? or there is something else? and how do i get hold of this materials? if i want to buy schweser notes thru theier website, its quite costly. so plz tell me the options available? plz reply asap

We can purchase the books while registering for exam... But its at extra cost... I used only Schweser notes... I had bionic turtle notes too..but they are too consise... For me they were waste of money... The only material u cant do without is Schweser... Handbook , Core reading good for knowledge prospective but nahi kiya to bhi chalega type... BT is a no no...

You can get FRM Schweser Notes from
Om Copy Centre , Mumbai
Laxmi Copy Centre, Mumbai

They will provide u the notes at 1100 Rs. as against if u purchase officially , will cost u more than Rs. 22000

ane idea abt tis??????????

I think FRM is more recognised... FRM alone will not bring more value... It should be combined with MBA/CFA... In the long term it will be useful...

hey after having a look at the above discussion, i had a look at the prm website. the course content seemed interesting though and ya flexibility is kind of cool in tht. but guys even if some1 wants to do this, how u r supposed 2 prepare? is there schweser notes for this also? and about the effectiveness of this certification any clue any1?

Subj: Pan card as identity proof for FRM exam

Puys, a small operational issue regarding identity card

I do not have a passport and will not be having it at least for next six months (due address proof issues)

The FRM website says any governament issued card with Photograph and name is accepted. When i wrote to them whether PAN card is accepted,i got a reply, rather playing safe, they said if the same is issued by Government and bears a photograph with name, it is accepted

I hope this will not create any problem while registering.

Lemme know if any of you had faced similar problems on this.

Thanks in advance

Hi puys!!!I have done B.Com(H) from D.U. I am joining MASTER OF BUSINESS ECONOMICS program offered by D.U. .Can any one please help and guide me a bit. i am confused between choosing CFA or FRM .If i can do only 1 course, which 1 should i prefer and why? Which one will be beneficial at the time of placements. Please guide.

I think CFA will certainly help you at the time of your placement and further in career...as it is comprehensive course having component of Finance, Economics, Accounts, Statistics..in it. While FRM is...let us say,a sectorial course which can help you in risk management....Business policy formulation. I have seen people with very good post in FIs, having done both CFA as well as FRM.
In the end I would say, it depends on your interest and where you want to be...
Gud luck..!!

Hi Puys,I need your advise. I did my full time MBA in Finance (2006),have around 3.5 yrs exp in Sales mainly in Life Insurance Industry. My interest is to be in Risk/ Business Analyst profile..So,1.Will doing FRM/ PRM be sufficient enough to get myself atleast an entry level job in the same.2.Or CFA (US) better to increase my scope.Kindly guide what else(if any) can help me get this role.

hey i myself will be appearing for PRM soon so i might not be the right person to answer this question, but i personally feel that as you wanna go towards risk, FRM/PRM is the right decision
