Hi Puys:cheers:
I hope u all are preparing well for the exams this June.
As FRM is a practice based exam(unlike CFA, which has more direct questions) we should practice more and more FRM questions.:banghead:
Now the FRM questions obviously means the original exam questions.
It is difficult to obtain them. So I'd request guys taking classes from pristine or some good coaching institutes to provide you with last few years papers..at least year 2005 onwards. From what I know, these institutes provide real exam papers.
Because the papers provided by GARP guys for free (they call it the sample tests) are a good representation of the real exam difficulty level, in case any one of us have them please make sure to share with the rest of us.ROADTOIB, is it worth it to solve sample exams?? Please do let us know what you think.
I have the following papers with me:cheerio:. Guys interested to get them can get in touch:
1) FRM GARP Practice Exam 2009
2) FRM GARP Practice Exam 2007
3) FRM GARP Practice Exam 2006
4) FRM GARP Exam 2002 (ACTUAL EXAM)
5) FRM GARP Exam 2001 (ACTUAL EXAM)
6) FRM GARP Exam 2000 (ACTUAL EXAM)
Take care.
Hi,
You are very right about solving the questions and best questions which mimic the real exam is the mock paper they send you. If you have the previous year questions, it's a wonderful thing to have. Definitely you have created the edge, provided you solve them in time:cheerio:. Guys best thing is have a feeling of the actual questions( which I think were tough than I had expected). I am stressing on this because I don't want you guys to commit the mistake I committed. My friend told me that Pristine in Mumbai gave the last year questions and solved the same in the class as well. Last year questions will definitely help.

Hi Gaurav,
Bionic Turtle does have very good excel sheets to explain the concepts, and Schweser has systematic notes. But neither is complete in itself. Choose any, but do study from Core readings as well(at last it will help).
Guys I cracked FRM 2009.. Was very busy in job.. So opened schweser notes on 11th nov 10 days before exam... Didnt purchase core readings as they r rather bore readings...! Jokes apart , if u just wanna crack exam, then schweser notes are perfect, if u wanna get real knowledge , then schweser should be supplemented with core readings... But imho , bionic turtle is not at all required.. It doesnt substitute schweser notes in any parameter...
please tell me how to start with FRM
go thru schweser for start.. if u have time, cover bt as well..

Hello Folks,
I am planning to give FRM Level 1 on May 22 . I havent started preparing. Do you folks think it is feasible to clear the exam within 3 months of preparation. How much time do you guys think i need to devote. I am an engineering gradutate with 9 years in IT Industry.
Circuit.
Hi ,
What is making you switch from IT to finance or are you trying to get an FRM to help you in your IT career? The reason I am asking you is to get your perspective and inputs.I am having about 10 years myself and am finding myself getting drawn towards quant finance / finance in general.
Quant finance .....because I have read that it pays so well that even the starting salaries are better than what we get in general after 10 odd years in a program management roles. The catch is that I am not very aware about the quant shops in India ...there are some very good ones .The pain is that there doesnt seem to be a way to leverage past IT experience in terms of the roles one may get in finance .But if you /anyone here differs , I would be glad.Although programming skill comes in handy.
My interest in finance grew from investing about four years back and had at one point in time about 80% of my networth in the market.

Hi roadtoib,
I had a few queries:
Did u only refer to the coursepack that Pristine sells?
Is the coursepack they sell significantly different from what they teach in class?
Thanks in Advance.:

Hi Road to ib,
First thanks about your FRM inputs.
What is the road/plan to get to IB(investment banking) that you are following for yourself. Is it MBA finance (from where it matters) , FRM or some other route?
My own route to quant ....as IB I guess will be ruled out without an MBA(that is what the banks, HFs do ...hit the right bschool campus...though I hope someone avers with this point of view) would have to be the second .And the opinion so far I have seen seems to be a divided one (not that there can't be more than one way of getting there...and I agree that other factors would also matter like the geo , past expereince and edu. esp if that is in finance).
Guys , please chip in your thoughts / or if there are qs ....in case you have something to share/suggest.
best...

BTW - did well on GMAT Quant but it is the Verbal part that is giving a challange ...but can be conquered , if I start working again on it, to take the score to 700.
10 years in IT.
If you are a good programmer, there are requirements in IBs for Quant programmer roles. Not very clear what that is but afaik it involves using tools like SAS to code complex decision making tools. Now that requires sound knol of finance as well. But we must bear in mind that the quality of programming required here is way different than the one which takes place in contemporay ITES companies-performance enhancement, sound knol of code complexities, way to reduce those etc.
For someone of your work exp even a BA role would be good, wherein IBs recruit for theri back-office(sometimes FO roles as well). However that requires good soft skills as well(coz you need to interact with the Investor as well as your developer).
However if quant fin is what your liking is,a formal PG degree(MBA,MS Fin) is advisible becoz IBs (atleast in India) do not consider grad qualifications for higher roles in quant.
Hope it helps.

I studied from Schweser only...If u are from Mumbai.. There is one Pristine Careers ...google it to know abt it... I dont have first hand info abt it...Few other classes in mumbai are useless... Its all about self study... Read the things diff to understand for 2 times, 3, 4, 5 times...U will surely understand it... And the main papers are comparivitely easy...
Thanks for your inputs!!
I think it is a good idea to be open to the option of getting a feel of the IB industry even by getting into the IT roles.
Do you know anyone who can be contacted from th IB industry for the roles you mentioned. What is the salary range I can expect in such roles in IB.
For quant I heard of IQF courses in FRM , Wilmotts CQF.What are your views on these when compared with MS Fin, given my profile.
Do you know some one who is a quant having a similar work experience/background .
best..

Start wid schweser notes...read sm undergrad book to clear concepts of probability, mean, variance etc. Also solve problems from schweser CD..I think this wud be sufficient to clear quant section...
I am in Gurgaon and prep for L1 FRM in May. If there is neone from Gurgaon, we can pool in resources and study.
can u just gimme the previous exam papers..
Hi
I am appearing for Part2 FRM this May. Is there anyone else in Delhi appearing for Part2 in May10?
Would be good to know and get in touch.
