Thanks a lot roadtoib for your detailed msg.But you have nowhere mentioned about jorian and the complete study pack prescribed by GARP - can one skip all of it and just concentrate on Schweser + Pristine notes. Also, many people have referred to Binic turtle notes, are they required? if yes then where can i get them?
thanks again:)
HI, I have been working with leading brokerage houses in INdia in Risk Management since last 4.5 yrs, Interested becoming FRM, so joined in !!
Hi All,
If anybody is interested in buying FRM material in bangalore
1.Core readings
2.Handbook
hello, i would like to have FRM material core reading and handbook - but i am in ahmedbad, but i do have contacts in bangalore - so can manage.
Hello,
I am planning to take FRM in May 10. Have few questions,
1) I am new to Risk as in background is IT, but IBanking domain. So will 3 months be sufficient to crack level1, considering i spend arnd 2 hours a day with average ability to understand.
2) How good are classroom coachings. If anyone in Blr or Chn planning to join please let me know. We can try for group discount in some centeres
3) How difficult is it to prepare on our own ?

Hi ARO,
I did mention about Jorian (FRM Handbook) and complete study pack(Core Reading as FRM guys call it). These are the ideal sources you should read from. The books(by hull, Rene Stulz, Jorian, Gujrati) they cover are the best ones in their respective fields.
So, if you have time
, the best sources to read from are the core readings and FRM Handbook(Jorian). These sources will make you healthy in knowledge terms, but given the time constraints if just want to pass the exam read notes by the official training providers like Schweser, Pristine etc. I won't recommend the mock papers and questions from Schweser as they are very easy when compared with actual FRM questions. Pristine has relatively good quality questions.I din't like Bionic Turtle's notes as they again give you feel good factor, but the thing I liked in them is the excel sheets they provide. I downloaded the sheets which I could but for the rest you have to pay hefty sum so I left that.
Hope it helps ARO

Hi,
Answers to your queries...
1. If you are serious enough, you will comfortably pass L-1 as it constitutes only 4 out of 9 subjects which are mostly Quant driven and being from IT background I am assuming you would be an engineer or from maths background.. You would comfortably pass the exam if you could spend 180 sincere hours on your study.
2. As I told you best practice is self-study and practicing questions..If you are able to do it without anybody's help then it's perfect. But coaching institutes do reduce your time to prepare for any exam, nobody can refute that.
3. It's not at all difficult, study by your own and take the best resources to study from as I previously described.
Hope it helped...
If one is preparing from core readings, can he safely ignore the handbook?
keepyourshirton SaysIf one is preparing from core readings, can he safely ignore the handbook?
In core readings, there are questions without answers and moreover not all questions are relevant from exam point of view. In handbook you will find past years questions which will actually give you the idea of FRM exam. My suggestion would be to go for handbook as well if someone is reading from core readings..
Guys,
For everyone who has cleared the FRM exam from GARP.
I would like to know if clearing the exam has brought any visible difference in your career or did the FRM designation helped you in enhancing and furthering your career in your chosen field.
Please advise guys, as I want to take the FRM exam and I have two doubts.
1) Which one is better FRM or PRM ?
2) Does FRM/PRM really boosts your career chances?
Hey All,
I had a small query... Suppose I write the FRM full exam... And manage to clear Part 1 but not Part 2... Do i have to write the full exam again next time??? or only Part 2????
Hi,
I need some info. Well, i m an engineering graduate , want to get into Financial domain. I have been working in an IT company for past 2.5 yrs. I want to know that whether i can make a shift from IT to Finance , by clearing FRM/PRM certification ?. I mean, do i need an experience in Finance or an IT experience is ok ?.. And what are the job prospects and kind of packages offered with the Engineer + PRM/FRM background ?...
Thanks
Hi all,
Know what!! no FRM certified professional will reveal their compensation information, thats because its considered to be CONFIDENTIAL.
But now for all my fellow PGites, I will reveal some INSIDER Information on compensation
A Fresher FRM can earn anywhere about Rs.5,000 pm for a start.
Yes!! (Five Thousand Indian Rupees per month).
Also, if you do not have Excellent academic records(Merit Rank holder-10th & 12th) or Good work exp, then you will need to work FREE for atleast 2 years, and mind you - u wont get anty workex cert at the end of it. :)
So I hope you register for the FRM pretty quickly and take opportunity for working FREE after clearing the FRM exam.
LOL!!! :biggrin::biggrin:![]()

I understand from the post that individual salary figures must not be revealed. But I hope it is allowed to reveal salary range figures. Also in the second file, information is quite old .i.e., before the recession(years 2005 & 2006). I guess the figures change considerably. And also the details are limited to Risk professional in USA. It would help if anyone can post on entry level salary figures in India for Risk professsionals post MBA(Finance) post FRM.
Thanks in advance
Hello Folks,
I am planning to give FRM Level 1 on May 22 . I havent started preparing. Do you folks think it is feasible to clear the exam within 3 months of preparation. How much time do you guys think i need to devote. I am an engineering gradutate with 9 years in IT Industry.
Circuit.
For Level-I, 2 hours of study everyday for 3 months is more than sufficient to crack the exam. Simply make sure your sources of study are reliable. Try solving lot of questions while preparing...
Good Luck for ur prep..
hello guys.. I am also appearing for FRM Part I in may.
Is there anyway we can pool and get the handbook and core readings from GARP. IMO it will be better to pool and get the reading material as it is costly .
Please let me know, if any body is interested. I am from Hyderabad.
Or if somebody has already got it ,then too we can share some cost.
No..I referred to Core readings handbook, apart from pristine's material. Life's not that easy dude!!!!!
I havn't attended their classes, so can't tell abt that. Have taken their mock tests and those were pretty decent than schweser.
does anyone kno where to get xerox copies of schweser in chennai or bangalore? i want it for both levels.
Hi Puys:cheers:
I hope u all are preparing well for the exams this June.
As FRM is a practice based exam
(unlike CFA, which has more direct questions) we should practice more and more FRM questions.:banghead:
Now the FRM questions obviously means the original exam questions.
It is difficult to obtain them. So I'd request guys taking classes from pristine or some good coaching institutes to provide you with last few years papers..at least year 2005 onwards. From what I know, these institutes provide real exam papers.
Because the papers provided by GARP guys for free (they call it the sample tests) are a good representation of the real exam difficulty level, in case any one of us have them please make sure to share with the rest of us.
ROADTOIB, is it worth it to solve sample exams?? Please do let us know what you think.
I have the following papers with me:cheerio:. Guys interested to get them can get in touch:
1) FRM GARP Practice Exam 2009
2) FRM GARP Practice Exam 2007
3) FRM GARP Practice Exam 2006
4) FRM GARP Exam 2002 (ACTUAL EXAM)
5) FRM GARP Exam 2001 (ACTUAL EXAM)
6) FRM GARP Exam 2000 (ACTUAL EXAM)
Take care
.
