Hey Guys,
I just cleared CFA Level 1. Now gunning at FRM Full in November.
Folks, I wanted to know about the results of FRM. Are they as liberal as CFA Institute. For CFA Level 1 The result was 46%. I fear that only top 5 Percentile get cleared in FRM Exam.. Plz Answer
Also , Where can we get the Core Readings? Do the GARP send us that? If yes Soft Copy or Hard Copy? If no, where can we avail of the Hard Copies in Mumbai? Do we need to buy Branded or Can we get Pirated?

Hi,
This is Ramnarayan.
A brief profile - An IT professional with 4+ yrs in BFSI domain. I intend to join the finance sector.

I have heard about both CFA and FRM certifications.
However, I am not clear with what to pursue ahead. I wish to join the front-end team rather than being a back-end resource.

Refer Core Readings. Especially Jorion (VaR) and the readings in Valuation Topic by Saunders.
It will become crystal clear

Hello Buddy,

If U need to join the Front End of a Prominent, Multi National I-Bank(DB, GS, CS), U will need to have a top tier MBA (Typically the Top 4 IIM's and ISB) - They dont looke beyond that for Entry Roles

For a Front Office Role in a Nationalised Bank (SBI, UTI, ICICI) - The list extends to the two remaining IIM's, SP Jain, JBIMS, XLRI

Needless to say - most of the people specializing in Finance also pursue CFA and/or FRM along with their MBA

Risk Management is a Middle Office Function - So FRM wont land you a Front Office Role

Cheers and ATB,
Shyam

Hey Apoorv & Saskar...
me too wid ya... :splat:
I agree wid wat all u have said, but more importantly i feel it depends on ur comfort wid individual sections.. wherever the section is easy for ya, then u can directly go for schweiser else CORE readings...

watever u do... u have to to the concepts.... coz OLD FRM exams have all been on conceptual based questions ...

Hi Rohan,

I had seen that u r looking for FRM exam 2009 prepration,

i had cracked that exam last year.

i had done my prepration from bionicturtle through online classes..

& if u lookin for regular classes & u r in delhi i can't suggest to go for bionicturtle.

i am in mumbai & preparing for PRM exam 2009 & i had checked out some brochure from CFA FRM PRM | GARP | PRMIA | Risk Management | Finance Training Coaching

some of my friends had prepared from Pristine last yr & they really find it worth!!

& they hav centre also located in New Delhi too!!

if u r looking for Authorized center then i think u should go out for that!!!

Reply me for any kind of help !!

hi everyone,

I intend to give FRM Level1 exam and have little clue as to how to go about the preparation.

Have just downloaded the study guide freely available from GARP email soon after we register.
It lists down various concepts from specific chapters of various books.

Please help me as to where do we get the study material from ? I am in Mumbai. From last 3-4 pages on this forum, i understood that there are these four things:
1) Schweser notes ( no clue what these are ? )
2) Jorion ( ?? )
3) Handbook
4) Core readings

Where do we get each one of these from ? Any place centre in mumbai ?
original or copies ?

anxiously waiting for replies . . .

Hi guys... Any one gaving any idea from where i can get question bank..im preparing for level -1... Im ready to pay if any one is ready to share his material with me.....

Hi

I have been patiently reading this thread since morning.Even after reading the whole thread i am not able to decide whether to go for CFA or FRM.
Currently i am in first year of MBA (Finance) at IMT Ghaziabad. My primary career goal is to join the Banking sector.Equity research is my second option.
I have not given any of the CFA level exams till now.

Which exam syllabus (CFA or FRM) is more overlapping with MBA syllabus?
Which certification should i go for?
Experts please suggest.

You can see this link. Hope this helps :-P

Regarding your second question, which syllabus (CFA or FRM) is more overlapping. Well, it depends on the electives you choose. Generally, CFA being much more vast, the overlapping is more here as it covers Economics, Financial Statement Analysis, Fixed Income.. etc. While FRM is more quant based and describes in detail about different risks namely operational, market, credit...BASEL Norms.. etc...

I have registered for Level 1 FRM exam 2009. I have the core readings material. I went through the schweser material and at first glance, it just seemed to be an abridged version of the core readings. And the FRM handbook is to be used as a reference guide.

So is it enough if I go through the core readings alone thoroughly?

Thanks
