Hi All,
I know I am late, but I just bought the Schweser Material for FRM and as I am told that along with Handbook is more than sufficient. My query is.. is there any particular approach to going about the preparation as in.. First X topic and then Y topic to make things smoother and relate better or without order also it's the same thing.
Hoping to hear from you guys soon..
Thanks,
Ankur

I am not sure of schweser being sufficient. Core readings is what people recommend.
Following the AIMS sequence of chapter should help.
Again it depends on what your strengths and weaknesses are.

hello_guys,
Is FRM a suitable cource for company secretaries and is company secretary a suitable qualification for Investment Banking ??
I'm doin ACS now and would like to try FRM or CFA any one of these and the whole motive behind it is to get into investment banking ...
wat do you suggest ...
1.ACS and CFA
or
2.ACS and FRM ...
which one do you think is a better combination
Hello everyone on the thread,
I think I have a slightly diff query which is that how much of the course is same between PRM & FRM & is it possible to prepare for both simultaneously.
Those who have given both exams pls reply.
I m not 100% sure of getting thru FRM but will need some risk certification on the cv for placements so thought of attempting both xams
Guidance needed........

Its wiser to focus on just on exam instead of two - FRM exam u will need to attempt once in a year (twice in a year starting 2010).
PRM exam can be given on any working day of the year.
Both FRM and PRM are widely recognised as amongst the best certifications for Risk Management, so shouldnt matter if u have both FRM and PRM or u have one amongst them
Cheers,
Shyam !!!

Hi,
Investment Banks in the past used to recruit talented guys and gals from Sports to Social Sciences and from Technology to Music
But the recent downturn will force them to rethink their hiring strategies
your term Investment Banking??? is not clear and it means different things
It can either mean u want to work with an Investment Bank(that will have Tech, Fin, Ops,Research teams) or it can also mean u want to work with the Investment Banking Division (IBD) of an Investment Banking
Yes with ur CS u can definitely get into an Investment Bank
But u will need to have an MBA from a Premier Business School to get into the Investment Banking Division of a Premier Investment Bank
The functions of a CS and FRM executive are not complementary, FRM wont help you if you want to be a Chartered Secretary (A CS performs a more holistic function in running the company rather than an FRM who will just focus on Derivatives, trading and others...)
Out of FRM and CFA
a CS + CFA is a better combination any day as CFA course also focuses on Economics, FSA, Corp Fin & Ethics(A major part) - which the FRM course doesnt (Ethics has been included starting this year)
Cheers,
Shyam

Shyam
Hi,
I am currently pursuing my MBA (2nd year). I am considering giving FRM 2009. However I am a little concerned about whether I would be able to make it considering I have only 3 months left.
I saw the course content, and I've done half of FRM L1 in my first year MBA. Remaining FRM L2 i would be covering in my 2nd year of MBA.
However, the L2 portion of FRM course concerns me...t would be totally new to me and I worried how heavy it would be?
Can anybody guide me on that ?
Also...what all material I would get as part of the registration ? as in do we get any books/study material/handbook?
MBA(Fin) second year. Very late in prep(will start in a day /two) 😞 , Schweser expected in a day, L1 (havent registered yet), Most of September will be gone in projects/assignemnts/exams.... October would be completely free...
Does it make any sense to go ahead n register now? Experts please suggest ... 😃
@Amit 007_001 : Thanks dude 😃 .... I was anyways thinking about L1 only... There is a specific query
, will Schweser be sufficient for L1, of course with some amount of Jorion reading too...??

Thanks a lot man .. Actually i'm plannin to get into the Investment Banking Division coz we do study about forex managements , derivatives , stocks , bonds , shares ..
And One more question .. As i said i'm doin ACS and i will finish by december 2010 and i have already finished CA- Inter and if i finish CFA Level 1 .. will CFA Level 1 help me get into investment banking division.
Hi Gaurav,
getting the material or the handbook from GARP is optional. its not included in the basic fees. If u want to buy from GARP u can buy it from them.
regarding the syllabus for L2, i m also concerned, i dont want to do something half finished, and syllabus for L1 is already done as i did the CFA L1 in June. But time of 3 months seems a lil short. as for advice, i asked a couple of my faculty (one of who has given FRM) and they were all of the opinion that i should go for the full version, more so as in the next trimester we also have risk management (so will have a bit of overlap).
Havent registered yet, waiting to get a feel of the scheweser material that i bought.
this was just my opinion dont knoe if it helped u.:lookround:
Hey,
Thnx for d info... Ive decided to go ahead with giving the exam. Although havent seen the schewser material.. but its better to go for the FULL version this year.. given the Finance stuff taught to us..and the CFA L1
hwws d prep goin guyss!!!!!
just 3 months left!!!
n i havent even done 25% of d course!!!
planning to complete schweser n handbook and if gt some more time.. wud read d core readings...
btw schweser covers all d GARP AIMS so just wanted to know frm oders weder only roughly covering up the AIMS frm schweser wud be enuff or a deep study of each topic through the core readings is required??
cuz each chapter is like 50-60 pages in core readings
whereas schweser covers d whole thing in 1500 pages.. if i include handbook that makes it a bit more dan 2000 pages.. atleast much less dan dose cumbersome core readings
hw ya guys preparing yaar???

Apoorv,
Even i am in the same boat...only 25% completed. However, i found the core readings gave a better understanding of the concepts than schwesers'.I may go through core readings for fin. instruments, market risk, and credit risk....and the rest..schweser...but of course..all these are wishes yet to be carried out.

Agreed man!!
:core readings are for buidling concepts... schweser is just like guides dat are available in the markets to pass the exam.. but exam pass karna bhi to jaruri hai!! n just 3 months left wid more dan 4000 pages of core readings to read!!
dats y m thinking of first try to finish the schweser n handbook.. and den go deep wid core readings..
