Guys i have some queries.
I'm pursuing a Dual Degree in chem engg from IIT Delhi.
1.Am i eligible for CFA Level 1 December exam or not?
2.And if i am will i be able to get through considering that i have no knowledge of finance?
3.I have been doing some research on FRM as well.Do u think it would be a good addition to my profile alongwith a CFA?
A swift reply would be appreciated
Thanks
FRM and CFA offer two different fields. One is purely concerned with risk managenet and other is inclined towards investment managenet. If you want to do a more client facing role then go for CFA and wnat to be a number cruncher and decision maker reportnig to top managenet then go for FRM.Do what you want to see yourself doing 5yrs hence. Its like comparing appels and oranges.
You can write it if you are in final year.
I have to clearly say No about your chances. If you feel comfortable with the link below then you may try but i advice you to take up some NCFM modules before attempting CFA L1. Also do the +2 accounts first.

Hi all,
I am Pankaj .. a software engg. by profession ... AND an FRM aspirant for Nov 2009 ....
I have gone through this thread ... excellent work by TUmTum and all ... cheers for all ....
Before I shoot my queries, let me disclose my profile ...
I'm currently workin for NSE and NCDEX (stock and commodity exchanges) in their RISK MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT as a SYSTEM ANALYST ...
I basically handle the backend code that does all those VAR and MTM calculations n all ....
It's been two years over there i joined as a fresher and I'm immensely keen into getting into risk management and related stuffss ...
Plus I have a latent penchant for Calculus n probability .... m not a bigshot in that but I like these ....
When I learnt of FRM n went thorugh its course structure ... it took my attention as its a complete package of the above ....
I know I'm a bit late for this year but still wud like to give it a shot ....
As I'm totally unaware of how to go about FRM, what do u all think, what should be my approach? Should I go for it or wait for May 2010 (Level 1)???
Is my profile inclined towards FRM or some other course life PRM(which too has got my attention) given the fact that I just want to be related to the RISK MANAGEMENT thing!!???
Which would suit me the best given my profile and my area of interest ???
Guide me puys ... it'd be gr8 .....

Hi to everyone,
I have registered for FRM 2009 full exam. But haven't started any preparation yet. And i plan to switch to FRM 2009 Level 1 exam as i feel that i won't be able to give the exam along with my job. I saw the GARP website and came to know that i need to pay $250 as processing fees for the same. But i am confused as to if i switch and then clear level 1, do i need to pay again for the level 2 or it gets adjusted since right now i have paid for the full exam (Rs. 27500) .... ?? .....because i feel if i have to, then that it would turn out to be very costly.......please let me know about the same as i need to take a call...........Thanks in advance !!

Dear friend,
For passing the exam schweser notes and handbook are more than sufficient. I would advie you NOT to get baffled by loads of other material, as this only make you more confused.

Nitin
Dear Friend,
1) Yes, you are eligible for CFA L-1, though you'll be awarded the charter only after having relevant work experience.
2) Yes, thats not a very difficult thing to do. I know couple of people from non-finance background clearing CFA L-1
3) Yes, FRM is a good certification to get (and easier too
) in terms of time length and relevant work ex to get the degree. Though both FRM and CFA serve different purposes as discussed by other members in this thread.

Hi to everyone,
Can anybody help me out as to whether i should give level 1 or the full exam this year. I have registered for the 2009 FRM full exam but have not started studying as yet and am finding it difficult to do it with my job. I have an option of switching from full exam to level 1 in this year itself. Please help me out. People who have already started studying can guide me on this one as to whether the full level is manageable in the available time or i need to go for level 1 only.
Thanks in advance

@ Nitin,
Thanks a lot for addressing my query. So what would be the average hours per week i would have to give to clear the full exam? Because as of now, with my job i can give upto 9-10 hours per week. Is that enough? I am really confused and need to take a call asap. Your inputs can give me a direction.
Thanks in advance.

Vinay 9-10 hrs a week are sufficient if you have some related background or get some external help. You'll need to push these hrs to 25 per week min. towards the end in order to clear FRM in one go.
When I appeared for FRM, I started from 15th September but could sail through easily (though I had CFA background to help :)). Hope this helps
