Financial Risk Manager [FRM] by GARP

Hey Guys,

Have any of you received hall ticket for the exam? I was on GARP website FAQs and they claim that hall ticket will be sent no later than October 20th, which is this Monday. I still havent recieved the hall ticket...

hi,

I am also planning for FRM ertification next year. I am a pure computer science professional and have no exposure to finance except financial computing. I started reading FRM main guide but finding it too tough to understand.

Is there any simple book to start with then official FRM guide?

Thanks,

Nikhil

Those who have not received can follow the link

There is NO NEGATIVE marking.

There are no explicit sections however all the questions are still slotted in a category.During the time of the results you are told how you performed in each section(%ile) wise to the other candidates.
However it still does not imply there are sectional cutoffs.

What Daniel Manzo, FRM Administrator - GARP says :
"There is no defined minimum score in order to pass the exam. The exam is graded based on an aggregate score of all the students. Nor is the score broken down by sections. After the completion of the exam, we do provide the students a score in relation to what sections they did better on for future reference and how they did in comparison to their peers.

some comments on it...from some other sourses...
GARP clearly mentions that the 2 papers of total around 140 multiple choice questions will contain mixture of all sections. This is from the FAQ on the site:
Are the questions presented by category, e.g. Market Risk, Credit Risk?
No, an FRM Candidate is expected to be able to address risk-related issues in a comprehensive way. Questions will be presented as if the candidate to address and formulate a response to an issue in a real-world environment.
Since, there are no explicit sections in the paper, how can we talk abt any cutoffs?
I had mailed GARP regarding the same. Their response was neither in the positive or negative.

Hi Everyone,

I have received my hall ticket yesterday morning. My center is in Bangalore. Is there anyone who is writing this exam in Bangalore?

Just want to know if there is negative marking in FRM ? If yes, then how much ? 😃 and what about sectional cut-offs?
If anyone has any idea please share it here.

Thanks,
Archana

Yes, it will definitely help. But GARP requires significant time and devotion. My colleague who cleared it last, said "he used to study E-books apart from" notes and literature available. Questions are more practical. It needs real work-exp level of thinking like CFA Level II/III exams.

Friends please understand that as exam is just next week, people might be busy and hence may not respond to these queries.
Let all from the current lot clear this one and then we'll be more than glad to share our (successful ) experience in January, I guess right now everyone would say that even one week should be sufficient. ;)
ANdy :)

Financial Risk Manager (FRM(R)) Program Climbs To New Heights
Last update: 2:38 p.m. EDT Oct. 22, 2008

NEW YORK, LONDON, and BEIJING, Oct 22, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Number of candidates registered for the 2008 FRM Exam increase by 35% in comparison to total registrations received in 2007
A record-breaking 13,681 candidates have registered for the November 2008 FRM Exam to be given at 78 testing locations around the globe, the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP: www.garp.org) announced today. The Financial Risk Manager or FRM(R) is the certification recognized by financial risk professionals worldwide and comprehensively measures one's ability to manage risk in a real-world environment.
At the close of registration for the 2008 FRM Exam on October 15, 2008 (11:59PM EDT), GARP reported 13,681 registrants, an overall growth rate of 35% compared to the 2007 total of 10,135. With a compounded annual growth rate of 25% over the last 7 years, the FRM Program has experienced significant increases in registrations in every financial center around the world. Asia led the way, with India (84% increase over last year) and China (59%) showing registration increases in excess of 50%, Europe had a 39% increase and North America's registrations increased by 29%. By comparison, in 2007 Europe only grew by 13% and North America by 8%.
"Steadily increasing interest in our FRM Program and FRM Exam is verification that comprehensive financial risk management education is a crucial factor in ensuring greater professional understanding and assessment of risk," said Dr. Rene Stulz, Chairman of the FRM Committee and member of the GARP Board of Trustees. "Candidates who attain the FRM designation demonstrate not only their personal achievement in the field of financial risk management, but also support their organization's commitment to risk awareness."
The FRM program has also seen an increase in employers encouraging their employees to obtain the FRM designation as well as hiring managers requiring it for senior level jobs. Companies and organizations with 5 or more FRM registrants grew from only 105 in 2003 to 424 in 2008.
"Risk management is now in the spotlight and has become top priority for many organizations around the world," commented Richard Apostolik, GARP President and CEO. "Earning the FRM designation has become the standard risk professionals must meet in order to objectively demonstrate competence in the profession of financial risk management. Furthermore, the FRM Program is helping to expand industry-wide understanding of financial risk management practices, concepts and theories."

Good Luck friends! 😃

All the best guys...
