Financial Risk Manager [FRM] by GARP

Do not go for Bionic Videos now...as curriculum is going to change...
Bionic Videos are really worth...And he covers entire AIMS very nicely in a visual manner.
Better start with his brief screencasts which are available for free...

Schweser is good concise material and is handy for fast reading & conceptual gathering of curriculum but problem is  its not available till june 2009...

I would say start with concepts those will always apply (Quant prob distributions, Hull Derivatives).

Hey all....am posting after a long long time at PG...

I'll be preparing for FRM 2009 too
Was searching through the net for some study material, when I chanced upon this link at ebay.in, where someone's selling this year's bionic turtle videos...just wanted to ask you guys..how're these BT videos? worth a buy?

what all study material would you guys suggest?

thanks and regards

btw, here's the link to ebay: http://cgi.ebay.in/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item;=280287079119

its too early to start prep for FRM 2009 as thr going to be changes in syllabus...wait till march...thr is goin to be lots of credit derivatives and securitization with their risks and disadvantages as well

for now u cn start with hull and quantitative analysis as this is surely gonna b thr

cheers

pankaj

Thanks for the input guys...
But I think I'll purchase this...I mean if BT videos are good, buying this will be no harm. It still is 3-4 months before the official AIM statements are out, and i dont think I can spend all of this time just with Hull...nywy, its only 400 bucks, better give it a shot...

Hi All,
I am a cost accountant from mumbai working with a NBFC since past one & a half years. Can anyone guide me on how will FRM help me in my career?
Secondly which all fields/areas can i concentrate on after completing FRM course?
Currently my work profile is not purely costing.
Hoping to get the desired support.

Regards
prosperous..

Hi Anil,
im planning to appear for 2009. could you pls answer this -
For core readings -do we get a copy(compiling only the required chapters from all books) from Laxmi xerox or do we need to buy all the books mentioned and study the particular chapters seperately ?? if we hav to buy all books its pretty expensive right? how did you collect your materials?

i have a MBA(fin) but does not have math background. So i planning to start with FRM handbook -supplementing each of its chapters with material from schwesers or bionic turtles and Hull.. Do you think its a good strategy for clearing FRM?

Thanks,
Srini

Hey All,

im planning to register from bangalore..i have friend who is also registering..lets form a group for combined study/sharing materials. its better we start ASAP to be comfortable with FRM..in one of earlier posts shyam suggested that we buy one material from schweser directly to get addl material on question banks etc..so if we have a big group it will be viable for all..anyone interested in joining pls let me know

Thanks,
Srini

yes you get the req. chapters copies in the core reading from Laxmi. Dont buy each book seperately.
About your strategy i m not sure, for me I m starting with core readings. Since all these will change as per new FRM syllabus, expecially Credit risk part is expected to change a lot. Going through old scweser notes now may not be good idea.

Core readings are bare chapters from full text book and mostly hard to understand.
Those doesnot talk about basic concepts.

Scheweser is good as it covers basics as well and is concise.
New edition would be printed around june next year so its fine to start now with old one.

Jorion also needs to be updated and they may publish new edition this year as last edition was published in march 2007.

Its fine to start with schweser and Jorion with help of bionic.

Hi,

Do you think FRM handbook by Jorian -4th edition will be changed for 2009 FRM exam? if so which parts could be changed ?

Thanks,
Srini

I am studying from the GARP CORE readings. They are encompassing good stuff.
What all things do BT series cover?

Is BT necessary if you read CORE READINGS?

Honestly, No.
But with 2 caveats:
1. You have to get your hands at all the study material. Which is not an easy thing to do, even with all the torrents and rapidshares in place
2. You have to be very very perseverent. Going through ALL of that elaborate stuff is no mean achievement.

This is where BT videos are helpful, i think. These might not be as detailed as the core readings, but these are like a refresher course. Plus, if you're among those who learn better hearing and seeing things, than reading them, BT might be helpful.

Plus, I personally found the excel sheets that come with the videos quite helpful in understanding the concepts.

rightly said buddy...when course become well known worldwide then icfai opened its shop and indian aspirants of original cfa institute have to travel outside india just to appear in the exam...so that icfai can make some money...but in the heart everyone knows (or at least i think everyone should know) that what icfai did was really shameful and its part of the process in which education instis are converted into shops... anyway this thread is for frm and i just came through your post...so we can stop this discussion as it is not the correct thread to discuss cfa...
