Am a BE computers and currently working with a leading IT multinational and having an over all experience of about 7 years, I am thinking of taking up the ICFAI CFA to bolster my skills and be eligible for various functional/Financial analyst/consultant jobs in the IT industry. Just wanted to know if I am pursuing the right course to give me an edge in this field or is there some thing else i should look at.

This year I am going to join an MBA college.I will opt for Finance in 2nd year as 1st year courses are common for everyone.I want to build a good Finance profile in next 1.5-2 years that is before start of placement season.
I am a B.tech and have good academics.Only prob is not so good work experience thanx to recession.
I was thinking of joining CFA from ICFAI also and wud like to pursue it along with my MBA.Also if necessary then will go for some certification exams in finance also in these years as I am eager to make career in finance.
what do u say guys?should I go for it now and pursue along with my MBA??

I have read that sir......i want to know that is it ok to go ahead with CFA while doing MBA or i should complete MBA first then go for CFA?
If you think you can handle both together then go for it.
First module chapeters of CFA i.e Financial Accounting and Eco. are very similar to an MBA.

I really want to do somthing in finance. i joined the CFA from ICFAI. I am planning to leave my job and concentrate on studies , can you please suggest me , that my step is right or ?????????
and regarding the placements from ICFAI after CFA, How is it???? Please help me with the information as its recongnition is same in all metros???
and how can i go abt the practical learning with some asset management firm , so that i can gain some knowledge.

Good that you have decided to pursue CFA and that you are singlemindedly focusing on it.
As far as recognition goes, it was never a problem in any city but like you say if you want to get exposure in some asset management firm, then being in Delhi or Gurgaon or Bangalore or for that matter Kolkata will just NOT help and be of any use.
This is for the simple reason that it is Mumbai out of which all such businesses and hence all such profiles are based out of. If asset management/ investment banking/ treasury/ equity research etc is what you desire, then you just being a CFA is not enough. You also have to be at the right place with the right qualification.
Even after you complete CFA, if you continue being at Delhi, Gurgaon, Bangalore or Kolkata, then you will NOT get into stellar profiles of asset management/ investment banking/ treasury/ equity research etc. So as per me, doing CFA is one part of the game and is a positive step in the direction, but if you are NOT based in Mumbai, then you have very little to gain out of CFA.
Secondly as far as your preparation goes, I have told the members numerous times that by following these 4 steps, you will pass the exam guaranteed. These steps are...
1) Read the textbook thoroughly
2) Solve each and every example in the workbook
3) Solve the model question papers in the workbook
4) Solve the past exam papers of the relevant subject.
You dont need to read any outside material and the ICFAI textbooks are self sufficient.

CFA from ICFAI is given only by ICFAI Tripura and yes, IFEN is the ICFAI Flexible Education Network- it is the nodal body for conducting all the flexible education programs including CFA offered by the ICFAI University, Tripura.
If you do the CFA through IFEN, then you will get the same CFA Charter that you get from ICFAI University, Tripura. Hope this makes things clear. All the best !

1. You can enrol at any ICFAI centre in India, & get a physical receipt.
2. Exams are held at all centres in India. Exam format for CFA:
All papers of Group Alpha, Beta and Gamma: MCQ type.
Remaining papers are subjective+MCQ+Caselets.
