MBA is jack of all concepts in finance and master of none.
CFA is master of Investment Management.
MBA is a management degree covering many if not all aspects of finance but none in depth.
CFA is hardcore financial analysis as applicable to investment management.
To put in simple words:
MBA is softskills, CFA hardskills
I have a querry, if anyone can answer pls:
The TBill prices have been given as follows-
Year 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006
T-Bills (Rs.) 98.36 97.82 98.48 97.27 98.62 98.123
How would one calculate the returns on the investment?
Shouldn't it be
1. (97.82-98.36)/97.82 for 2002.
The suggested answers mention the following formula which i have not understood:
2. Return on T-Bill1 = (100-Current Price)/Current Price * 365/364 * 100
Why is 1. wrong and 2. correct?
Babu, Tumtum, or anybody???

can u tell me what is the amt. one can expect after passing CFA?

Although i am at delta stage and not done FRM (so i havent done black-scholes), i was thinking about the Symmetry of Volatility.
1. Is volatility always asymmetric ?
2. If it is asymmetric (downside volatility > upside volatility and vice versa at different points in time), is it due to the bearish/bullish sentiments/fundamentals in the market regarding stock/market in general ?
Black Scholes has volatility as a parameter to price options, is it directional volatility or simply volatility. If non-directional volatility in B-S is used then wont it throw out faulty price if markets are displaying directional volatility.
3. If markets are in a bullish phase (like now-a-days) then the option premium say on Nify Call Options would rise. Is it due to the factor described in 2. above (i.e. since the upside volatility has lowered so the option price has also gone down)
But then it may be a steady rise OR a volatility rise (both rising markets scenarios but volitality is low in first case and high in second case). So the call option prices must also be different.
Can anybody give some GYAN on this please ????????????

Well T bill simple mean that you will get 100 Rs at the end of the period. Its normally have duration of 90/180/360 days
So if the 360 days t bill is quating at 98.36 this means that you will get 100 rs investing 98.36. so return will be calculated (100-98.36)/98.36
Hello friends !

hi friends,
I am a software engineer with 1+ years exp butr novice in this field and would request everyone to provide me information about CFA from ICFAI. Any exact and dedicated link for the same woud be a great help. Thanks in advance .....and last but not the least Gr8 job guys for creating this thread.....![]()
I had enrolled for the CFA programme in July this yr. and due for exams on Jan. (Group 1) , now due to rather intensive MBA test prep. I have not been able to give my concerted efforts to CFA , In case I fail in my endeavour for MBA this yr. , will it be good enough for me to join CFA classes and do the internship programme or will doing a job be a better option to show my utilization of the time period.

If you are able to get an admission in a good MBA institute, then thats good. Otherwise finish your CFA in 18-24 months and start working.
Tumtum....
I've heard enough horror stories of people not scraping thro' the ICFAI CFA...How the pass percentages are absymally low...and how there's a conspiracy(?) theory too that explains the low pass percentages.....
All the very best :)
Cheers

MBA distance learning you should stay away.
CFA is a very challenging course and needs lot of hard work. I am having toughest period of my life in completing it. It requires good amount of hard work.
If you decide to persue CFA, you can change your career in wealth management. Citibank and ABN Amro have recently hired CFAs as wealth managers with a 4 lakhs p.a package + bonus etc.
